Chapter 1298 Abnormal Behavior

Chapter 1298 Abnormal Behavior (Second Update)

Taking advantage of the shockwave and flash from the weapon platform, Queen Chakcher of Yasok, without anyone noticing, led her people silently towards the Beta defense platform below. They descended from the edge, where no firing platforms were deployed, but only sandbags were used as cover. At this moment, almost all the palm-sized black beetles had been burned to death by the flamethrowers. Even those that escaped were stabbed to death by the Yasok people with short spears. Slippery skeletons rose from the tide of blood in front of her, gradually forming a small platform, as if growing out of the ground. Queen Yasok let out a long shout and waved her hand, beckoning her people to jump down into the blood-soaked sandbags with her.

While the soldiers of the First Secret Regiment and the ten knights were busy unleashing fire, no one had the capacity or time to pay attention to them on such a long and winding front. But now things were different. The officers spotted the Yasok's movements, a searchlight accurately pinpointed their location, and the news was relayed to the expert Laura Crawford and the Martian technicians. The female archaeologist took a megaphone from one of the Martian technicians and, in her broken Quechua dialect, called out to the Yasoks, telling them of the danger of the blood tide and pleading with them to stay.

However, she had barely finished speaking when Queen Yasok turned and found her amidst the complex fortifications. She roared in a rough voice and then, without hesitation, leaped off the sandbags, landing on the slippery, sharp pile of bones below. Immediately afterward, a beam of laser heat shot towards the Yasoks—precise, deadly, and ruthless. In the blink of an eye, a Yasok's head was pierced, and his body crashed down from the fortifications like a falling rock, splattering a large amount of blood. This shot came from a squad's marksman in the First Secret Regiment, who, along with his team, had fought guerrilla warfare against local extremist groups in Afghanistan, making outstanding contributions to obtaining local geological and mineral data for the Immortal City.

The shot came so suddenly that Laura Crawford could hardly believe it. Queen Yasok's scream echoed from the bloodbath below, her fury unmistakable even by the hymns reverberating through the cave. Laura Crawford stammered a translation into the communicator, but the officer remained unmoved by Queen Yasok's curses. "Yasok is now considered a traitor," he said. "Killing is permitted."

"They don't understand, sir! They have no concept of modern military discipline!" Laura Crawford stood up anxiously. She opened her communicator and said hastily, "Maybe she thinks she has a way to solve this, that's why she's doing this!" A few seconds later, the captain of the First Secret Regiment finally replied. This time felt incredibly long to Laura Crawford, because she knew her words would likely be dismissed as nonsense; every British officer she had encountered believed that authority was paramount. Moreover, Laura knew she wasn't actually confident; she had no idea what Queen Yasok wanted to do. The superstitious thinking and cultural inertia of this people couldn't be understood with her common sense.

"I'll give you three minutes," the captain said into the communicator, his tone as cold as ever, as if he'd been injected with too much combat drugs. In fact, the soldiers of the First Secret Regiment all took drugs to suppress their human desires; aside from camaraderie and orders, they cared little for anything until retirement, when they could finally have a life of their own. This was the First Secret Regiment—criminals the Emperor had chosen from the battlefield, people who had to atone for their sins. "Find out Yasok's thoughts, or I'll mow them down with grenades before they even get close to the stone gate. I won't allow them to get near those wizards and disrupt the Imperial Guard's plans, understand?"

"I see."

"You have two minutes and forty-five seconds left, archaeologist." The captain scoffed and hung up. The logistics officer beside him cast a curious glance, but the captain simply shrugged, pointing ahead to the rising smoke from burning oil and the dust from burning weapons. Through the grayish-white smoke, they could only see blinding flashes of magical light behind the smokescreen. "It's not that I'm being soft-hearted, it's just that we might not live to see that point unless we're incredibly lucky," he said. "And I don't think the Yasoks will make it to the Stone Gate; they might die on the way."

"Pessimistic," the sergeant commented. "Laura Crawford is important."

"If she truly deserves the Emperor's attention, then she should be put to use now," the captain waved his hand. As he said, the Yasok's advance was fraught with difficulty under the searchlights; traversing the slippery, sharp bones was extremely dangerous, and people frequently fell into the bloody pools and never reappeared. The Yasok Queen held a hunting spear; the closer she got to the stone gate, the brighter the runes on the obsidian spear became. "Continue the barrage, but I don't want the marksmen to take their sights off the Yasok. And anti-tank missiles; at least one needs to be adjusted to unguided mode. I need the safest means to eliminate any possibility."

While receiving reports from the captain and sergeant of the First Secret Regiment in the chain of command, Supiluliumas wielded his halberd, slaying extradimensional creatures. These beings, freshly crawling from wounds in the spacetime structure, had no skin; their blood-red muscles were exposed to the foul air. Their indistinct bodies flickered in the air, their movements intermittent. Then, the remaining blood on the semi-transparent bodies of these spiritual entities was burned away, and they underwent metamorphosis like insects emerging from their cocoons, completely different from their previous state of being merely blurry phantoms in the air.

They are clad in a skin woven from extradimensional energy, possessing deformed claws, abnormally proliferating bony plates, teeth that pierce the skin, biologically incompatible membranous wings, and bizarre limbs—all extremely threatening. Their appearance in this form stems entirely from humanity's preconceived notions of such beings. The extradimensional energy that constitutes them originates from the South American people who perished in a massive earthquake. In this region, with its deeply ingrained religious atmosphere, every unnatural muscle they wield is said to be woven from the souls of those who died in the disaster. Thus, when millions believed they should have wings, they gained wings.

However, no matter how terrifying the monster, it could not stop the blade of the Praetorian Guard, Supilulius.

He stood before the Seraphim Shield formed by the mystics of Kamar-Taj, single-handedly confronting the spiritual entities that poured forth from the silver stone gate. Black, malevolent claws weakly slid off his armor, and the blasphemous utterances of his long, obscene tongues failed to sway his mind. Extradimensional beings were shattered into irreparable fragments before him, then vanished into dust from the material universe. Supiluliumas paid no heed to the curses uttered by these beings before their expulsion; even the ever-changing spacetime vortexes and multidimensional topologies behind the gate, composed of four, five, and even six dimensions, failed to elicit any hesitation from him.

His will is unbreakable; no external dimensional energy can corrupt his mind, for he is a member of the Royal Guard.

"Bring Queen Yasok closer to me. Don't stop her; I need that hunting spear." He issued the command through the chain of command, skillfully slaying the monsters. He had experienced dozens of battles like this. While the situations he encountered during the trials of life and death weren't quite this dangerous, the number of enemies was still considerable. Even now, the Royal Guard's Supilulius felt no muscle soreness, and didn't even need to replenish his combat potions. "Knights, with your jump packs and ample ammunition, come to my side." He knew exactly how to mobilize the knights from another line of genetically engineered products, because he understood every detail of their creation. "There is no better time than now to sacrifice yourself for the safety of the human race. Follow your promise, and give everything for victory!"
