Chapter 1300 Heading Towards the Unknown
Chapter 1300 Heading Towards the Unknown (Second Update)
Perhaps it was at this moment that he truly realized that the boy he had watched grow up had truly risen to a position beyond his reach. This was an indescribable destruction of Mordo's confidence. He had always believed that he was incredibly important to Kamar-Taj—and indeed he was—but not as indispensable as he had imagined. Mordo watched as the Emperor deftly combined millions of runes, calculating and completing the spell model at an astonishing speed, and then extracted a chain shimmering with golden light. Each iron ring, forged from pure outer-dimensional energy, was half a person's height. The completed spell unleashed a chain hundreds of meters long at once, which, guided by magic, was firmly nailed to the stone door frame.
Such a task would require at least twenty sorcerers spending thirty minutes and extensively prepared incantations on parchment. Mordo's team was frantically working to meet the deadline, but the Emperor could accomplish it in the blink of an eye with a mere wave of his hand—a difference clearly visible to the naked eye. Before the Emperor's arrival, the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj had made numerous efforts but still couldn't stop the silver stone gate from slowly opening, managing to control the gap to a size that allowed ten people to pass side-by-side. However, after the Emperor swung the chain, the silver stone gate began to shrink at a visible rate. Even though it closed by only a few centimeters every few seconds, each movement of the massive silver stone gate was terrifying, but it also indicated that the situation was developing in a positive direction.
This time, Queen Yasok did not step on the corpse-strewn reef. The surging tide of blood parted out of thin air, outlining a completely transparent bridge. The blisters that had previously appeared on her skin from the blood healed in the blink of an eye, leaving only dead skin without any scars. Laura Crawford followed behind the Yasok people with trepidation, carefully stepping on the precipice. Although she couldn't see the bridge, she felt an unusual stability beneath her feet. Not far away, Queen Yasok was already standing beside the Emperor, speaking to him as she presented him with a glowing hunting spear.
The Emperor's arrival caused a sudden loosening of the battle line. The ten wounded knights retreated in an orderly fashion, their firepower relentlessly directed at the extradimensional spiritual entities emerging from the stone gate. The knights gathered around the Emperor, intending to form a defensive line against the extradimensional creatures. However, upon discovering the Emperor's presence, the extradimensional beings inexplicably stopped and began shouting in a non-human language. Even so, the constantly forming extradimensional spiritual entities behind them continued to encroach on the space, pushing the foremost extradimensional beings towards the knights' blades.
The Emperor first expressed his gratitude to the knights for their service, then turned and spoke to Queen Yasok, the Royal Guard, and Wanda Maximov. Many shook their heads, even the Royal Guard's Supilulius and the knights, not to mention Wanda Maximov, who was the most vehement opponent. Laura Crawford was certain he had seen her, but offered no greeting or lingering, as if her presence or absence was of no concern to him.
Queen Yasok then beckoned her people to stand behind the Emperor. As Laura Crawford, panting, climbed the cliff formed by the blood-corroded rocks and collapses, she found the Emperor already leading Queen Yasok and the rest of her people through the silver stone door. The Royal Guard followed closely behind the Emperor; monsters along the way either melted into wisps of smoke or turned into pools of water, none able to approach. After everyone's figures were swallowed by the foul light behind the door, the golden chains tightened rapidly, the massive chains shortening continuously, the heavy stone slabs of the silver door scraping against the ground with a constant screeching sound. In the blink of an eye, the silver stone door slammed shut, the unnatural light vanished, and the area, now devoid of industrial lighting, was plunged into darkness.
All industrial lighting equipment lost power due to overload. With the rear fortifications ceasing fire, the cave fell silent.
The deafening crash of the falling rocks brought everyone back to reality, sending shivers down their spines. A few clusters of blinding crimson flashes in the darkness reminded them that the ordeal was far from over. A sorcerer quickly summoned a blazing orb of light with magic. Using the magical light source and the beams of the searchlights that had been hastily repaired, they discovered that the golden chains were gone, there was no space behind the stone door, and the towering stone door had lost its former luster and power. The thick stone slabs, broken and slammed to the ground, had become blurred and faded, as if they had endured thousands of years of wind and rain in just a few seconds.
The blood tide completely solidified, and the skeletal reefs turned into real rock. The original rock had been thoroughly corroded, leaving only a depression full of huge holes. The extradimensional spiritual entities that had been shattered by bombs, flamethrowers, and blades had completely vanished. Apart from the foul-smelling ashes raised when the boulders crashed down, nothing could prove their existence. It was as if this was all a complete, aimless farce, and no one knew what they wanted.
Laura Crawford couldn't understand any of this.
Where did the emperor go, and why did the Yasok people go behind the door?
Wanda Maximoff stood where the Emperor, the Royal Guard, and the Yasoks had vanished, ten knights accompanying her. Laura Crawford unscrewed the glow stick at her waist and cautiously approached Wanda Maximoff. The witch's earlier behavior had frightened her somewhat, and Wanda's current expression further indicated her displeasure. Nevertheless, Laura Crawford mustered her courage and stepped forward, gently placing her hand on Wanda's shoulder. "I'm still so useless," Wanda's expression suddenly softened, the previous terrifying aura seemingly just an illusion. "He wouldn't let me in, and those knights wouldn't say a word."
"Maybe she's protecting you," Laura Crawford said softly. "You also said that you think there are some things that are not suitable for other people to know."
"The Emperor's orders are to escort you safely back to Kamar-Taj, Lady Maximov." The sergeant removed his helmet, which bore teeth marks and scratches. The cut on his brow from a shard of broken helmet had already scabbed over, and in the dim light, his high brow bones and overly developed facial muscles made his eyes appear somewhat imposing. "I have contacted the surface, and a separate aircraft has been prepared for you at the airport. And you, Lady Laura Crawford, the Emperor wishes you to return to Kamar-Taj with Lady Maximov for a mental examination."
"What do you know?" Although Laura Crawford had seen these knights during her exploration of the cave, she had never had any interaction with them, and these knights were unwilling to engage in unnecessary communication with anyone other than genetically modified warriors and First Secret Service soldiers. "You have to tell me something."
"I can only tell you that we've encountered enemies like this before," the knight officer said. "However, we've never encountered a spacetime rift; those monsters always seem to emerge from places we don't know."
"Don't you know where the person who went in will be?"
"All I know is that the phenomenon of a wound in the spacetime structure is similar to the event horizon of a black hole, and the temperature observed from the outside is different from the actual temperature upon contact." The knight officer shook his head. "I believe the Emperor wouldn't joke with his own life."
"Karmar-Taj!" Wanda Maximoff suddenly looked up. "He's at Kamar-Taj!"
"you……"
"The only place in the world with a stable and harmless spacetime structural wound is Kamar-Taj!" Wanda suddenly exclaimed excitedly. "He told me that there's a spacetime structural wound hidden beneath Kamar-Taj, beneath the mountains, which is why he wanted us to return to Kamar-Taj! He'll be waiting for us there!"
Even though Laura Crawford had a lot of questions, she could only nod in agreement with Wanda at this moment.
