Chapter 1514 Chapter 1510 Lunar War

Chapter 1514, Chapter 1510: The Lunar War (Twenty-Six)

Anyone who has witnessed the battles of the Imperial Guard cannot deny their heroic bearing.

Gronov Rutov's team of genetically modified warriors displayed ruthless, silent, and professional killing. The genetically modified warriors mercilessly crushed the crowded mutant crowd, like an unshakable and unstoppable black iceberg that shattered steel and rocks, using explosives, chainsaw weapons, and force field weapons to kill all the mutants with deformed limbs and mixed with alien genes.

While the Royal Guards possess a superior level of professionalism and ruthlessness, and the immense power of genetic alchemy grants Derrick greater superhuman strength, his fighting style is vastly different from that of the genetically modified warriors. This newly recruited Royal Guard has received a more diverse range of combat skills training, allowing him to utilize abilities far exceeding those of other genetically modified warriors.

It was pure violence unleashed by speed, power, and technology; an elegant paradigm combining the violence of flying flesh and blood, cold weapons, and firearms, like a golden-armored demigod from mythology wielding the ultimate aesthetics of violence. Derrick pierced the frail bodies of several mutants with the blade of his Guardian Spear. Instead of turning on the power to dismantle their fragile bones, he lifted them up and pulled the trigger on the spear shaft. The large-caliber explosive instantly pierced through flesh and blood and detonated, spraying blood and bones in all directions.

The blast from the propellant of the explosive bomb blew open Derrick's blood-red cloak.

He leaped forward instantly, his blood-soaked crimson battle robe billowing in the air with a loud crack. Without hesitation, he stepped onto the bodies slaughtered by the genetically modified soldiers, crushing the bones that Gronov Rutov hadn't destroyed with his boots. He leaped up several rock-supported corridors, crashing through the observation window above the genetically modified soldiers' path. At that moment, Gronov Rutov and his squad had activated their jetpacks, and the five genetically modified soldiers hurtled like meteors towards the central gate of the spire hall, the entrance for the Chimilian clan mutants.

The squad swept through (or rather, ran over) the densely packed Chimerian Clan mutants in ten seconds, advancing more than 500 meters. Along the way, they left behind many severely wounded and barely clinging to life mutants. Derrick even saw a mutant being cut in half at the waist for several seconds before dragging his never-before-seen alien entrails and futilely taking his last breath.

Even the genetically modified warriors, who had undergone extensive training and psychological indoctrination, were utterly shocked by the sight before them. In the center of the enormous hall behind the gate lay a rough, deep pit, with a stone-paved path leading straight down into it. The Chimilian mutants at the forefront plunged into it without hesitation. Some mutants—Gronov Rutov, unaware of the mechanics—circumvented the pit, ascending the curved steps on either side, entering a darkness even the power armor's detection systems couldn't penetrate. Strange, swirling smoke billowed from the pits where the mutants had fallen, eerie light emanated from the bottom, and a kind of inhuman laughter vibrated the air. In the strangely colored flames of the braziers surrounding the pit, blurry illusions of bone plates, claws, and fangs flashed. Even the round eyes of the Chimilian mutant statues that had supported the hall seemed to weep blood.

A wizard, surrounded by a deep purple glow, stood on a high platform above the pit, chanting in a rhythmic language the genetically modified warriors couldn't understand, in a style reminiscent of praying to a deity from superstitious legend. The wizard wore a black cloak and a hood, but the warriors could still see through the nauseating, painfully filthy light emanating from behind the hood the long, narrow snout characteristic of the Chimerian mutants. Gronov Rutov fired without hesitation, followed by the other genetically modified warriors. However, the mutant wizard merely waved a mutant skull made of bone and steel, its eyes adorned with rubies, in his hand, and the rapidly flying bullets were stopped in mid-air.

The genetically modified warriors immediately dispersed, and Derrick himself once again concealed himself in the darkness.

An invisible force swept through the air like a wheel, carving a bloody path through the Chimerian mutants who had been blocking the genetically modified warriors. Then, silence fell. Apart from the mutants' footsteps, there was no sound in the dark corners of the hall unlit by the supernatural flames. The atmosphere was tense, like a pin about to be fired. The mutant wizard, his glowing eyes, hidden beneath his hood and spread across his cheeks, searched for the intruders in the supernatural firelight. Then, a bomb silently shot from a corner of the hall towards the wizard's head.

The bomb stopped in front of the mutant wizard. The wizard calmly extended a long, slender finger with four joints and gently touched the still-propelled warhead. Using psionic energy, it peeled back the layers of metal covering the tip, removed the burning propellant, separated the mass reaction fuse, and finally grasped the miniature inert fusion core awaiting ignition. Seemingly satisfied with this, the wizard tossed the now-extinguished bombhead aside and continued searching for the genetically modified warrior. A few seconds later, another bomb shot straight at its head, followed by another. A fourth bomb accurately struck the mutant wizard again. Growing increasingly impatient, the mutant wizard gripped the scorching hot warhead, letting out a piercing hiss. He pointed his staff in the direction the bomb had been launched, and a violent explosion erupted in that corner.

A ball of bright white light, as intense as a star, struck the mutant wizard. Unable to dodge, it hastily raised its staff. Perhaps the symbols etched on the staff worked, or perhaps the bloody brand on its slender arm exerted some supernatural power; when the plasma exploded before the mutant wizard, only its cloak woven from strange fabric was charred, and billowing steam rose from its body—the mutant wizard was enraged. It quickly chanted a spell, but a bombhead engraved with a golden eagle pierced it, shattering the staff into pieces. Bone spikes from the explosion pierced its palm. Before it could even cry out in pain, a giant claw crackling with electricity followed by two pillars of fire spewing Mach rings rushed towards it. Gronov Rutov cleanly pierced the mutant wizard's narrow skull at the back of his head, four sharp claws protruding from his face. He raised his arm high, used the claw in his other hand to pierce the mutant wizard's chest cavity, and then forcefully tore it open to the left and right.

The wizard's remains and staff fell into the deep pit.

Without a word, he threw a high-yield anti-armor thermobaric bomb into the pit, then activated his jetpack and jumped off the platform. The explosion at the bottom of the pit was very faint, as if it came from a distant place. This was quite counterintuitive, because the pit's depth exceeded the deck thickness of the Chimilian clan's settlement, and could only lead to the lower industrial areas of Attilan. But no one had time to think about such things now. While Gronov Rutuff attacked the mutant wizard, the other four genetically modified warriors had already begun clearing the passageways on both sides of the pit.

The former nodded towards the shadows in the distance. Derrick stepped out of the shadows, nodded back, and then disappeared again, stepping across the wide cracks in the rock strata of the hall. Gronov Rutov had seen the effect of the explosive shell. Apart from Derrick, no one could have fired with such precision and timing. Although he didn't know what special mission the Imperial Guard had to carry out, Gronov Rutov was certain that the Imperial Guard would provide appropriate assistance.
