Chapter 1520 The Lunar War

Chapter 1520 The Lunar War (Thirty-Two)

Black Bolt made another gesture.

Perhaps out of trust in their fellow soldiers, or perhaps out of trust in the Gene Council and the Attilan royal family, the Chimerian warriors' speech did indeed have an effect. The Gene Council's youth safety team, currently on leave and responsible for maintaining order, stepped forward to guide the crowd back to their homes. Meanwhile, several medical personnel from the medical department began assisting the seriously injured Chimerian Inhumans. Black Bolt was satisfied with all of this; even those who were overly agitated were persuaded by others to first offer help to those around them. Black Bolt also stated that the Gene Council and the Attilan royal family would definitely investigate the mastermind behind this incident.

He did not intend to tell the civilians of the Chimilian clan about the war situation on the front lines.

"Can't we be sure if this is the work of wizards?" the Chimerian warrior said in a low, menacing voice. "My people have been mind-manipulated; otherwise, no one would have come here. This is the work of wizards, and we must eliminate them… Your Majesty, the wizards may even be colluding with the invaders. We cannot let them go." Perhaps fearing his explanation would be too complex, Black Bolt used a data tablet instead of tactical hand gestures. Upon seeing the text on the tablet, even the most hardened Chimerian warrior had to lower his head in obedience. "Then let's wait until Matronia awakens," the Chimerian warrior said. "But I don't believe Matronia will show mercy to the wizarding order… I will focus my attention on the mission to kill the invaders, Your Majesty. I swear to obey your will, even if it goes against the Chimerian clan's decision."

Black Bolt expressed his gratitude with a gesture. He walked through the regained consciousness of the Chimerian Inhuman civilians and stood beneath the spire, under gazes of respect, disgust, affection, and hatred. Anyone could see that the true culprit behind the deaths of the Chimerian Inhumans was not the stampede caused by panic, but rather the substance that created the explosion marks at the entrance to the Wizard's Tower. Black Bolt stared at the cratered ground, the charred corpses, and the scattered limbs, barely suppressing his raging fury. He turned to the soldiers and made a gesture, signaling them to prepare for battle.

The invaders have penetrated deep into the Chimerian clan's territory; they must be completely eliminated.

"Go home!" The Chimerian warrior of the Clan Alliance stood beside Black Bolt, waving his arms. The crowd looked at him. The Chimerian warrior gazed at his wounded comrades before him, standing beside the shallow crater created by the thermobaric bomb, and said, "Go home, collect the dead, or help those around you who are wounded. Black Bolt already knows of the invaders' arrival. We will guarantee your safety; you can go home and continue your lives. I urge the healers to step forward and maintain the medical system. Attilan is facing invasion; we need the strength of each and every one of you. Regardless of clan or origin, we must protect the Inhumans' only home."

"A good speech," the Centaurus clan's electromechanical expert murmured. He spoke in their clan dialect, not the common language of the Kree Empire. Although both were Inhumans, the Centaurus clan, as the first genetically engineered product created by the Kree Empire, possessed a cultural structure drastically different from other clans. "Shall we set off now?" he asked in the common Kree language. "What about the wizards?"

He looked up and saw a burst of flame shatter a rose window. He quickly stepped back, and then a charred corpse plummeted from the spire of the aerial tower, its size far exceeding the average size of the Chimilian clan. Even Attilan's top biologists and forensic experts couldn't determine what the creature was. When the "corpse" hit the ground, its massive, canine-like head had been burned away, leaving only charred bones. Even so, the creature was still alive, perhaps its lungs desperately drawing air. Tetanus immediately started yelling and jumping, extremely agitated.

The creature's canine-like appearance terrified it. Black Bolt, while trying to calm Tetanus, ordered the Chimerian warriors around him to maintain order. The Chimerian warrior looked up, then immediately charged at Black Bolt. "Watch out, Your Majesty!" he shouted anxiously, his previous composure gone, eyes wide and fingers clenched. Black Bolt looked up, gripping Tetanus's collar tightly, using his immense strength to control the giant Shar-Pei. He looked at the Chimerian warrior with a puzzled expression. "Up there!"

Black Bolt looked up again, and a blurry black shadow stood in the window that the strange creature had smashed open.

Then, explosive bombs rained down like a storm, completely engulfing Black Bolt.

A sharp claw scraped a thin white line across the tempered ceramic armor, and then a fist encased in the armor slammed into the deformed skull with a whistling sound. The hand didn't even have time to wipe itself clean before fingers smeared with foul-smelling blood were already on the trigger again. "There are more and more of these creatures," Herun said, his tone remaining calm. Only when the muzzle flashed could the fleeting light outline the blurry silhouette of the genetically modified warrior hidden in the shadows. "Concentrate fire and break through. Now is not the time to hide."

Gronov Rutov nodded, his peripheral vision and electronic eyes locking onto the wizard hidden behind these deformed creatures. The higher they climbed, the fewer places the genetically modified warriors could hide, and the more frequent the battles forced them into direct firefights rather than assassinations. But this posed no problem for the genetically modified warriors, who already possessed immense strength and armor; they were first and foremost genetically modified warriors, and only then the nineteenth specialized model.

The firefight had lasted for over thirteen seconds. The genetically modified warriors were almost overwhelmed by these bizarre creatures, likely from a laboratory. Corridors, passageways, and staircases were crammed with these canine-like animals with gigantic heads and deformed limbs; some even had nutrient solutions from their incubation chambers on their bodies. The genetically modified warriors fought against the giant claws with combat knives and chainswords, smashing enemies in their path with bomb guns and their fists. They carried out the killing calmly and methodically, without the slightest hesitation. The ground beneath their feet was littered with the corpses of monsters, their dark red blood piling up almost above their boots.

"I need a firing channel to decapitate the wizard. Don't conserve ammunition."

"Roger that, reloading." Herun pulled out the magazine with only a few rounds left and attached it to his belt. "Full-automatic mode! Ready!"

"Reloading, prepare!"

"Get out of the way!"

The heavy weapons operator pulled the trigger, a bright plasma beam shooting straight into the monstrous wave. The smoke from the vaporizing flesh and bones was so thick that fingers were obscured. Even so, Gronov Rutov charged into the passage, his sharp claws slicing through the bodies of the monsters in his path. Herlun shouted, following his captain, raising his explosive pistol and directing his comrades to attack the monsters trying to approach Gronov Rutov from both sides. A barrage of explosives rained down like a storm, and Gronov Rutov charged forward at breakneck speed. Everything around him seemed to be stuck in a quagmire of time, everything appearing in slow motion. Bombs exploded on either side of him, creating a sea of black and red blood that shimmered with fire. He sprinted through the shadows, keeping his body low, his claws outstretched, like a shadow clinging to the ground. The mutant wizard didn't even notice Gronov Rutuf passing through the charred corpse; to him, Gronov Rutuf appeared as if he were emerging from shadows that offered no concealment of his form.

Before it could express surprise or react, Gronov Rutuf had already rushed to within a wrist's length of it, plunging its lightning-fast claws into its chest, then slashing downwards with force. Wet entrails and a massive amount of blood immediately gushed out, and the mutant wizard instantly went into shock, collapsing headlong into death. Gronov Rutuf then turned and pounced on the swarm of bizarre creatures again; the next moment, a long stream of heat from his flamethrower smashed open the rose window, completely engulfing them.
