Chapter 1540 The Lunar War
Chapter 1540 The Lunar War (Fifty-Two)
Armored personnel carrier seats are designed specifically for tall, armored giants and are not suitable for ordinary people.
Master Wang had taken up a seat. Above the seat was a mechanical device—a safety valve—used to lock the shoulder armor of the genetically modified warrior's power armor. It was a safety feature found on assault transport ships, shuttles, and other troop transport equipment specifically designed for genetically modified warriors. Master Wang believed that even if the valve were lowered, he, wearing his spacesuit, could still stand on the seat and dance.
This was the first time he had complained about the vehicle's overly loose safety features, but he certainly didn't want it to happen again. It wasn't until the leader of the genetically modified warrior breakthrough squad pointed it out that he noticed the X-shaped seatbelts on both sides of the seat, and then, looking utterly embarrassed under the gaze of the genetically modified warriors, he firmly secured himself up like an adult sitting in a baby seat in the back of a car.
"The Mistletoe Squad will escort you to the designated location. You can call me Davis; I'm the squad leader." The breaching squad leader secured the boarding shield in the recess beside the seat, but he didn't lower the explosive rifle he was holding. The standard lighting inside the armored vehicle's crew compartment wasn't enough for an ordinary person to see their surroundings clearly. After all, the external environment was dim, and even with eyes that were almost microscopic, it was necessary for the soldiers' eyes to adjust to the environment beforehand. "I know you, Mage King. At the Temple of Vatum, we participated together in the Emperor's control over the region's psionicists."
"That's a massacre," said the young monk. "That's not a good thing."
"As it turns out, that was the right thing to do, just like the mission we're about to undertake." Captain Davis glanced coldly at the young mage, handing him the data panel. Although they were fighting side-by-side, the genetically modified soldiers' attitude was anything but enthusiastic. Compared to the soldiers of the First Secret Regiment who had previously fought alongside him, the young mage felt these genetically modified soldiers were just cold, lifeless robots. As for Davis, he hadn't expected that there would be mutants and sympathetic eccentrics among the Emperor's psionic academy, Kamar-Taj. This was incomprehensible to the usually hard-hearted genetically modified soldier, who had no idea how to respond to the young mage's complaints. "When the First Combat Group launches its attack, we will follow the main force to Phase Line Delta-5 to clear the psionic signal." Captain Davis looked down to check his magazines, making sure the safety was off and there were no explosives in the magazine. "You're not a soldier. Until we reach the psionic signal location, you must obey all my orders and are not allowed to use psionic magic unless absolutely necessary. Only in this way can I guarantee your safety and ensure you complete the mission alive."
"Where did you receive your training?" Master Wang suddenly asked. "I know you come from all over the world, but before undergoing the modification surgery, you need to receive training and testing in a bunch of secret bases in Algeria, Afghanistan, Uganda, Brazil, and so on, and finally undergo the modification surgery. I know more about genetically modified soldiers than you think, Davis. I know your past identity."
"That means nothing to me."
"Perhaps." Little Master Wang sighed, complaining like an old man. "This world is changing too fast; I don't even recognize it anymore."
"I was thirty-six when I underwent the modification, much older than you are now, but I didn't complain like you do all the time." Davis paused, seemingly racking his brains for words. Just as Master Wang had said, the genetically modified soldiers came from all over the world. The reason they could now speak Latin was entirely due to psychological indoctrination technology that granted them language abilities and basic scientific knowledge beyond their native tongue. "My father was a shepherd. When the Americans came, he made a fortune transporting diamonds with his flock, which he used to send my siblings and me to school. Later, he was captured by scouts from an enemy warlord, the diamonds hidden under the sheepskins were found, and he was thrown into the meat grinder with the sheep. To allow my siblings to continue their schooling, I joined the army, relying on my good physique, carrying a gun to kill strangers and sending my meager pay to my sister and brother."
The ramp slowly closed, and the crew compartment of the armored personnel carrier was stained blood red by the red lights.
The departure time arrived, and everyone felt the vehicle slowly moving forward. The airtight protocol had been established, and the air pressure gradually equalized. Davis removed his helmet and faced Little Wang the Mage. This was the first time Little Wang the Mage had seen Captain Davis's face; shrapnel wounds left terrible scars on his cheeks.
"I sympathize with your plight, but why are you telling me this cruel story?" asked the young monk. "It's a true story, isn't it?"
"It's true. This is my life story before I put on the power armor." Captain Davis smirked. "I believe that the last words of anyone thrown into the meat grinder wouldn't be 'I don't even recognize this world anymore.' If you want to know what happened next, I can tell you. My sister was killed, and I killed my brother with my own hands, but I didn't recognize him at the time."
Master Wang obediently shut his mouth and stopped talking.
"His Majesty……"
Black Bolt gestured to indicate that he already knew.
Mother Evo of the Ghost Clan, Mother Onomi of the Chimerian Clan, and Mother Alardi of the Rogue Clan all sat beside Black Bolt, with armed guards standing behind them. Most of them had been forcibly brought there by the guards, not only because the resolution had taken effect, but also because of Black Bolt's blatant threat—though they also wanted to question him, as from the perspective of the other clan courts, this act of usurping the power of the Gene Council could be described as shameless—however, after being escorted to the Gene Council by the guards, the clan matriarchs were speechless, because Black Bolt had spoken. He first uttered a single word to a clan officer who had violated the Gene Council's resolution, sentencing him to death. This bloody scene also made them realize that Black Bolt was absolutely serious, and those usual bureaucratic methods were meaningless.
"Now, the enemy is advancing in full force. I will lead the unified Attilan Inhuman army against the invaders." Crystal loudly proclaimed to the Clan Court the sentence Black Bolt had entered on the data panel. Black Bolt sat on the grand and imposing throne of the King of Attilan, but the leaders of the Clan Court had been dethroned from their seats in the Genetic Council and were relegated to simple councilor chairs. This was undoubtedly a humiliation, but none of the Clan Matriarchs commented on it. "All Clan Courts must relinquish communication privileges to help the Joint Command establish a chain of command, allowing all Clan armies to be under centralized command. I can assure everyone that this war against the human invasion is fair, and every Inhuman's blood is being shed to protect the Inhumans' freedom."
"I have no objections. The Ghost Clan has no cowards. As long as you guarantee to make the enemy bleed!" declared Matriarch Evo of the Ghost Clan. Matriarch Aladi of the Villain Clan glanced at it with surprise, but unexpectedly, Matriarch Evo also looked at it, causing Matriarch Aladi to inwardly curse Matriarch Evo as an idiot. However, with the representative of the Birdman Clan present, it could not voice its objection, since the Commoner Clan and the Birdman Clan truly possessed all the genetic technology and the Starfortress Engine.
