Chapter 1572 The Lunar War
Chapter 1572 The Lunar War (84)
Genetically modified warriors possess extensive combat experience, including against "hyperdimensional spiritual entities" and various "hyperdimensional alien creatures." Due to the Sorcerer Supreme's laissez-faire attitude, Earth's magical schools have long since crossed the line in their pursuit of knowledge. However, due to Kamar-Taj's power, much knowledge remains merely on paper; few dare to practice dangerous black magic for fear of being exterminated by the Sorcerer Supreme and Kamar-Taj. Those who have done so have been utterly destroyed, their souls forgotten; the few survivors have all escaped to other planets by sheer luck.
However, when the Emperor decided to unify the schools of Earth magic, some schools that attempted to defy the Emperor's orders began using dangerous magic. The conference held at the Temple of Vatum proved just how dangerous the knowledge hidden within the Earth magic schools was; their experiments and knowledge had already violated taboos, and some schools had gone too far in exploring knowledge of outer dimensions.
The Milky Way contains a large number of alien creatures with close ties to outer dimensions, which are undoubtedly excellent research materials for psionicists. Summoning them to Earth through magic to conduct experiments, and then modifying their bodies to strengthen their connection with outer dimensions, is a common practice among Earth's spellcasters. Therefore, the genetically modified warriors have encountered many psionicists who have lost their human form.
In addition to these, there are also methods such as using spirits to work for them, ask questions, acquire knowledge, assist in spellcasting, and fix extradimensional spirits onto beasts for targeted enhancement. However, regardless of how these magical schools conduct their research, as long as they do not develop cults, harm mortal society, or disrupt established history, the Sorcerer Supreme always exercises only the minimum level of surveillance and management. But now, the Sorcerer Supreme's orders have been superseded by the Emperor's orders. The strict psychic control laws were forcibly implemented by the massacre at Watum. These schools know that accepting the Emperor's orders means the extinction of their schools, and all the knowledge gained by their ancestors through forbidden experiments and the precious texts passed down through generations will be taken away. Therefore, when the genetically modified warriors and the Kamar-Taj sorcerers carry out missions together, all the psychics choose to resist without exception.
The genetically modified warriors thus glimpsed the terrifying potential of psychics, especially those conducting forbidden research. They traded their reason for power, and even Kamar-Taj sorcerers might not be able to defeat them. Therefore, when Aparishar heard that the newly emerged enemy type had been identified as a transdimensional spiritual entity, he was not surprised. He had already known during the war council that the so-called Inhumans contained a large number of psychics, and where psychics existed, there was the risk of witchcraft and magical artifacts; the appearance of transdimensional spiritual entities was the most dangerous and bizarre of all.
All genetically modified warriors knew that facing these sorcerer-controlled magical entities required more than just bombs, fire, plasma, and swords; it also demanded unwavering willpower from a warrior. Every battle against these aliens was a test of a warrior's skill and spirit. Genetically modified warriors did not believe in the concept of the soul or its existence. As the Emperor had told them, nothing in the world was beyond scientific explanation; so-called magic was merely a phenomenon caused by excessive mental power, and so-called extradimensional spiritual entities were simply inhabitants of another world—natural phenomena that could be explained scientifically. Aparisha had encountered the horrifying truths hidden in history; he believed in the Emperor's ideals, in the inevitable triumph of human wisdom over all, in the subjugation of all alien beings by human power, and in the inevitable ascension of the human race to the pinnacle of the galaxy.
Aparishia rose from the holographic command chair, his massive frame making the Martian technicians beside him, who were cyborgs capable of working tirelessly, appear incredibly small. Even though they had begun to replace human emotion with cold logic, the Martian technicians still felt fear in the face of such a savage and brutal war machine. Aparishia ordered two logistics personnel to bring over the Executioner's Axe, while he simultaneously tucked a pistol—forged by the emperor's personal craftsmen—from the emperor's armory into his belt.
"Tell His Majesty that I will place the sorcerer's head beneath his throne." A cruel smile spread across his scarred face. He seemed to see the entire battlefield, hear the cries of the mortal soldiers, and witness the extradimensional energy entities wreaking havoc amidst the ruins. Aparisha knew this feeling well; he knew it was the Emperor casting his gaze upon him and imparting the information he had gathered. The only psionic user in the world Aparisha could trust was the Emperor; no one could breach the mental shield He had erected for the genetically modified warriors. "With my honor, I swear this. When mutants and sorcerers howl in hell, they will remember the judgment and mercy brought by the Emperor's messenger."
The lowly commoners, having drunk the holy blood, waved their makeshift weapons in a frenzy, surging out from the cracks in the deck. Maximus looked down upon this army, nominally his, chanting his name and raising cult symbols and banners welded to iron poles. A group of priests, working together, summoned blood-red "angels" from behind a terrifying veil—angels, according to the priestesses, to be the vanguard of his vengeful reign as King of Attilan, and his personal guard—a practice Maximus tacitly approved. Though the commoners, strengthened and tireless by the holy blood, he had no expectation that they would help him defeat his brother's army and the human invaders; an obedient army was what he desired, even if he discovered these so-called "angels" were not so compliant after all.
At least, the priestess Feliel could not directly command them.
“They are absolutely loyal to you, Your Majesty,” Priestess Feliel hurriedly said. “You are the gods’ representative in this plane, the embodiment of their power. Nothing in this world can defy your will.” Maximus tried to pronounce a difficult name, and from the shadows behind him, a colossal figure emerged. Black flames burned on its body, its eight eyes were pitch black, and two large, curved horns sprouted from its forehead. Priestess Feliel looked at this “angel” with trepidation. It had begun slaughtering believers as soon as it appeared, and their heads were now hanging from its waist, their empty eye sockets burning with blinding flames. “It will lead your army, Your Majesty,” Priestess Feliel said. “You possess its true name. Angels never tell us their true names; this is the gods’ trust in you. This is a trust unparalleled in the world, Your Majesty. The gods believe you can save us.”
Maximus smiled and nodded, and Priestess Ferrier finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"I will lead them into battle," he said. "I see my brother about to appear on the battlefield, and I will cut off his head as a gift to the gods. Only they can save the Inhumans and restore our people's true glory."
