Chapter 1579 The Lunar War
Chapter 1579 The Lunar War (Ninety-One)
The fall of the settlement was like a deafening roar beyond human hearing; even changes beyond perception could be detected. When the Chimilian clan's settlement was officially declared captured, the Emperor's Thunder Eagle banner was firmly planted on the Chimilian clan's spire. Beneath the banner lay the corpses of Chimilian clan members and a small number of other Inhuman clans, their bodies riddled with wounds inflicted by chainsaws and explosive weapons. The royal court, which had once held military command over the Chimilian clan, had lost all its glory, shredded like a pile of neglected garbage. Amidst the mountains of wreckage, only a few genetically modified warriors lay in eternal rest, their blood and flesh growing cold.
Along her journey, every corpse of a Chimerian civilian she touched with her psychic power spoke volumes about the brutality of the human army. The raw fear she felt upon witnessing giants walking the streets sent chills down Matriarch Onomi's spine. Fear was followed by rage. Matriarch Onomi of the Chimerian clan trembled with fury at the sight before her. She could not tolerate the trampling of the royal court's dignity, nor could she tolerate the human army's massacre of the Chimerian clan. She reached out and dragged the battered, genetically modified warrior's body from the pile of her comrades' corpses. The sturdy armor was torn apart by an invisible force. She furiously ripped at the already dead limbs of the genetically modified warrior, the viscous, semi-congealed blood from which the genetically edited blood gushed forth with violent force, but it failed to fall upon Matriarch Onomi.
"Nail this corpse to the top of the tower!" Her long, narrow face, typical of the Chimerian clan's Inhumans, was filled with rage. "No one can insult the Chimerian clan without paying the price! I want those humans to pay with their lives!"
Enraged, no one in the royal court dared to defy Matriarch Onomi's orders. The Chimerian clan soldiers dragged the heavy corpses of the genetically modified warriors up the pile of bodies, and then more than eight thousand steel balls exploded from the pile, blasting the nearby Chimerian clan soldiers into pieces.
"Despicable!" Matriarch Onomi lowered her arm, and two high-speed steel balls fell less than half a meter away from her. Her anger seemed to burn even brighter. "They actually planted bombs in the bodies of fallen soldiers! Dishonorable and despicable scoundrels! All humanity deserves to die!"
She gripped the flesh tightly, her teeth clenched, but dared not use her psychic power to move the corpses. She didn't know what the triggers of those bombs were; any movement could potentially trigger more bombs lurking in the unknown. She had seen genetically modified warriors use bombs capable of destroying buildings on the corpses of dead civilians; after a blinding white flash, even steel would turn to gas. It was hard to say that such dangerous weapons didn't exist in the massive pile of corpses, and she didn't think she could build a shield against such terrifying heat in a short time.
She dared not gamble on whether the bombs would unleash plasma, subatomic heat, or high-speed metal. Psychic power wasn't a panacea; if she chose the wrong type of protection, she could very well die here. Perhaps this world exists...
"Clean this place up. The human army is withdrawing. Let's find the survivors and then go to the Genetic Council." She took a deep breath and turned to her subordinates. "Find Black Bolt and tell him we're leaving the moon. We will retake the White Room, activate the starship, and inform the Genetic Council to close the connection gate. We've paid enough for Attilan; it's time to leave. We are Chimerians, not Attilan Inhumans."
No sooner had she finished speaking than a bullet pierced her neck, cutting through the air, before the sound of gunfire came from afar.
Gronov Rutov scrambled to his feet, gun barrel still radiating heat, and disappeared into the ruins of the building, draped in an optical camouflage cloak. The large-caliber bomb easily severed the slender neck of the Chimilian clan member. The pressure change caused the deuterium core to burn violently, and the micro-fusion instantly charred the bones and muscles surrounding the projectile—the intense heat blackened the shoulder and head, even exposing the ribs—and the rest of the Chimilian clan's royal court watched in stunned silence as their matriarch's headless corpse fell before them. Several seconds passed before these once-wealthy court officials frantically sought cover, fearing a sniper attack from the shadows.
The spire and the flag were bait; even the corpses of the genetically modified soldiers who hadn't been taken and the slain enemies could become traps. Gronov Rutov respected the Emperor's flag and his comrades, but he knew that for victory, even honor could be temporarily set aside. Now that the objective had been achieved, he and his squad were about to withdraw from the area. Artillery fire would come; that was the job of the main combat forces.
"The death of the Queen of the Chimerian Clan, Onomi, signifies the collapse of the Chimerian Clan's organizational capacity."
Corporal Malcolm nodded, expressing his approval of Gronov Rutuv's actions.
While each genetically modified soldier is a ruthless killing machine, the Emperor endows them with different talents, allowing them to combine in various ways to meet the needs of all war situations in the world. For example, Type 19, represented by Gronov Rutov, can completely destroy the enemy's command structure through brute force. Commander Malcolm, having reviewed the files, knows he possesses extremely powerful and precise calculation abilities, perfectly matching the Emperor's requirements for officers in future wars, enabling him to help the command completely control the war situation and logistical operations.
He picked up the data panel and crossed out the label indicating the organization level of the Chimerian clan.
The genetically modified warriors will be gradually withdrawn from the Chimilian clan settlements, and the mortal army and fire support forces will complete the final mopping-up operations. He needs to commit all his strongest military forces to the more brutal battlefield. He will draft a brief report to ensure the Emperor is aware of the matter; Gronov Rutov's military actions absolutely deserve a medal.
"We still don't know Maximus's location, Your Majesty." The Emperor had arrived at the front-line command post. He held supreme military authority in the chain of command; however, unlike some human bureaucrats who liked to direct operations in unfamiliar areas, even if he understood military matters, he wouldn't reclaim delegated authority. He trusted Commander Malcolm's military decisions. "Blackcard Bertgang's broadcast failed to lure Maximus out," Commander Malcolm said. "I wonder if the arcane mages of Kamar-Taj have any information on him. Perhaps they can help us find Maximus?"
"This is difficult, Commander," Amon answered on behalf of the Emperor. He didn't know why, at this point, the Inhuman named Jia Ying was still by the Emperor's side. "We only know that there are a lot of psionic reactions in Attilan. The only confirmed high-level reaction has been found, but it's not Maximus but a portal. The target is using the psionic reactions of a large number of extradimensional spiritual entities to hide himself. Unless we perform psionic divination, it will be very difficult to find him."
"Then can we perform a divination?"
Amon shook his head. "Our Lord suspects that the extradimensional spiritual entity is using possession. Because it was severely injured by our Lord before coming to the material universe, it cannot exert its full power here," the Royal Guard said. "We can only determine the target's location through our current hunt and eyewitness accounts. I assure you, Commander Malcolm, we have prepared anti-phantom weapons. This is a war, and we will use any means necessary."
