Chapter 1591 The Lunar War
Chapter 1591 The Lunar War (103)
These ethereal entities, covered in blisters and fleshy tentacles, reeking of disease and foul stench, were numerous and seemingly endless. If it weren't for the fact that only ashes and pus remained after the ethereal beings were driven away, the defensive fortifications built by the genetically modified warriors and mortal soldiers would surely be littered with corpses. Even so, the mortal soldiers in the D-1, D-2, and D-3 lines found that the spent shell casings and depleted laser batteries at their feet were already above their ankles.
Within the winding defensive line constructed of prefabricated fortifications, dark gold alloy shell casings flowed like a river. Each movement of the Void Combat Suit's blast-resistant tactical boots produced a crisp clanging sound from the mountain of casings. Genetically modified warriors' rapid strike force swept low above the defensive line, their hovercraft engines emitting a low hum, unleashing a deadly rain of explosives and missiles like ground-attack aircraft. As an extremely advanced attack aircraft, the hovercraft and other atmospheric attack vehicles used by the genetically modified warriors were far more complex than modern ground-attack aircraft. When these vehicles were deployed to the battlefield as anti-armor firepower, several secret operations in Afghanistan and the Middle East proved that their low-altitude penetration capabilities were excellent, fully capable of dealing with armored vehicles such as the M1 Abrams main battle tank and bunkers used to conceal nuclear weapons.
When the genetically modified warriors' rapid strike force appears in a weakly defended position, they can often repel increasing numbers of ethereal entities at lightning speed, even carving a deep trench filled with ash and death on the starcaster's deck. When ordered, this force detaches a squad to fly along the supply corridor, slowing down to clear any obstacles in their path with machine guns.
"Company Commander Aparisha, we have escorted the transport plane to the landmark." The genetically modified soldier, sitting on the hovercraft, watched as the transport plane dropped two armored automated fortresses onto the Inhuman Research Institute's defenses. After landing, the fortresses revealed missile bays and machine guns, further increasing the First Company's firepower density to another level.
Aparisha ripped the battle axe from the ethereal entity's mushy, caramel-like body. The disintegrating force field burned the foul-smelling blood into thick smoke, the stench of ionized air and disease nauseating. The war within the Inhuman Gene Research Institute had become a settled affair; whatever blasphemous things lurked within, none could withstand the forty genetically modified warriors. Aparisha felt it was time for him to leave and join the glorious battle the Emperor had promised him.
"Escort me and the First Knight Squad and the Second Knight Squad onto the plane."
"Received, circling."
The First Knight Squad, the Second Knight Squad, and his guards, a total of thirty-one men, will board the transport plane that flies through the airlock into Starfortress to go to the Emperor's side to participate in the final battle of the Ultimate Attilan War. All the Royal Guard, the Sorority's androids, and the elite soldiers of the First Secret Service will also participate. The Attilan Inhumans no longer have the power to resist. On one hand, they have to deal with the attacks of the human army, and on the other hand, they have to deal with the madness and atrocities of the Aetheric Entities. Now, neither side on the battlefield regards the Inhuman army as a threat. The intelligence provided by the informants indicates that the Attilan royal family has now completely lost its ability to organize. All members of the royal family are either facing the Aetheric Entities with weapons or hiding in the depths of the palace to avoid the war. After the defeat of the other Inhuman clan armies on the front lines, they no longer have any ability to organize.
An assassin presented the emperor with a gift.
That was the head of the matriarch of the villainous clan, slain by an assassin during the royal chaos, who then traversed the battlefield to deliver it to the emperor's feet. The millennia-long glory of this mutant dynasty had come to an end. The history of the Inhumans would be forever sealed away, their traces erased completely. No one would remember them again, no one would ever hear the name Inhuman again. This modified alien fortress would forever belong to humanity, used to defend against alien armies from beyond the solar system and the severely mutated humanoid populations.
Jia Ying saw the Emperor's sharp facial features soften slightly, elegance and beauty flowing in an expression of maternal compassion, almost like that of the Virgin Mary. Afterward, she would say she saw a face filled with divinity, like when her husband, using the then-extremely expensive projection equipment, showed her every film by the famous actor Conrad Witte—compassion and contempt perfectly blended, a fleeting emotion vanishing only to disappear into eyes as black as the deep universe—golden psychic light gathered above the Emperor's head, an invisible shockwave evaporating any ethereal beings that stepped into the vicinity, creating a truly safe zone. Standing not far from the Emperor, Jia Ying knew she couldn't possibly see his face and eyes clearly, but her intuition told her that what she saw was the truth, the benevolence of the man before her hidden beneath the ice solidified by his magnificent robes.
"This war is about to end," Jia Ying heard the emperor say. "The history of this civilization will come to an end."
The golden-armored guards stood beside the emperor, following his footsteps into the battlefield.
As the psionic aura spread, many mortal soldiers on the front lines found that the monsters they faced seemed to have become vulnerable. Forms that previously required heavy firepower to destroy were now collapsing, and invisible flames scorched their skin. For the first time, the ethereal entities, who treated the battlefield as a playground, let out fearful howls. Mortal soldiers on the D-1, D-2, and D-3 lines noticed a large number of armored vehicles belonging to genetically modified warriors moving forward and pouring into the Inhuman civilian areas that had been completely destroyed by artillery fire. Genetically modified warriors, who had been scattered around controlling various tactical strongholds, silently arrived near the defensive lines. Two transport planes crossed the burning battle line and arrived in front of the defensive lines. Immediately afterwards, warriors clad in golden armor passed through the defensive lines, and the previously dim battlefield became bright, even dazzling.
Genetically modified warriors, their power armor covered in scars, quietly await their masters.
The Emperor extended his hand to Aparisha as she disembarked from the transport plane. Even the emotionally detached genetically modified warriors were deeply moved, for the eagle banner representing the Emperor's ideals and the future of humanity, and the Emperor himself, stood there. The mortal soldiers couldn't accurately recall what had happened; they could only vaguely remember the machine guns spitting fire on the defensive line slowly ceasing operation, the stench of propellant gradually dissipating.
The bloody day seemed to have come to a complete end. The monsters never seen before had vanished without a trace, seemingly turning into thin air. Warriors in golden armor stood at the front of the defensive line, the lights projected from the steel dome overwhelmed by an unparalleled radiance. The filthy, cold air became clean and warm in that moment. Even the corpses of the Inhumans impaled on iron stakes by those monsters turned into bonfires, burning away in the blink of an eye. The adrenaline gradually subsided, and emotions such as anger, fear, resentment, and disgust disappeared like the receding tide. They relaxed as if soaking in warm water, and even the dying soldiers injured by the ethereal entities were healed in a short time.
All they remembered was the Emperor delivering a very brief speech, after which almost all the genetically modified warriors on the defensive line and the elite First Class Regiment clad in Void combat suits boarded the armored personnel carriers and followed the Emperor's vehicle into the deep deck fissures within the Inhuman settlement. The darkness did not engulf the army; the aetheric creatures hidden in the darkness fled in panic upon seeing the Emperor, but none of them escaped with their lives.
