Chapter 160 The Evil Client

Chapter 160 The Evil Client (Second Update!)

Salomon was somewhat worried by the Sorcerer Supreme's unusual behavior, but seeing that the Sorcerer Supreme seemed unwilling to talk, he didn't know what to say. He could only tiptoe out of the meditation room and slowly close the door. His work was not yet finished, so he could only instruct the sorcerer who was taking care of the Sorcerer Supreme not to disturb him, and then open a portal back to the chemistry laboratory at Eton College.

Tonight, besides this alchemy order, he also needs to copy several spells into his spellbook, such as the extremely useful Resurrection spell, which he hadn't previously added to the Kamar-Taj library. As mentioned before, Salomon's Blade Pact and the Mana Burst spell provided have significantly enhanced Kamar-Taj's offensive capabilities. Since these spells are based on Vishanti magic, they greatly compensate for the shortcomings of the Book of Vishanti—if the Book of Vishanti didn't lack offensive magic, Kamar-Taj's sorcerers wouldn't choose close combat; the price to pay for magic cast from other dimensions is not something everyone can afford.

For example, the spell "Cathorak's Crimson Chains," cast using the Crimson Universe, doesn't actually borrow Vishanti's magic. Therefore, the cost to the arcane mages is far greater than what they would pay to Vishanti. It's an incredibly high-interest spell, and no arcane mage would willingly cast it unless absolutely necessary. Even Salomon's change from "Infernal Roar" to "Faltin Roar" incurs a price, although borrowing magic from Faltin is much cheaper than from Hell. Magic Burst and Blade Pact, while using Vishanti's magic, also minimize the arcane mages' costs.

Therefore, Salomon wanted to copy all the spells possessed by the sorcerers of the Celestial Overlord into the spellbook of Kamar-Taj. He had already copied a spell called "Vishanti's Holy Flame," and now he wanted to copy "Vishanti's Light Arrow, Lesser Restoration, Resurrection, and Daybreak." He believed that the magic-burst-style arcane mages of Kamar-Taj would definitely like these spells, especially Light Arrow, which would be another advantage for arcane mages who disliked melee combat—Hamiel the mage looked like he was almost unable to move, and melee combat was out of the question.

As for the existing Flame Shaping spell in Kamar-Taj, Salomon didn't need to make any further modifications. Due to the lack of offensive magic in the Book of Vishanti, Kamar-Taj sorcerers over the millennia had already mastered the basic Flame Shaping spell to such an extent that it gave birth to the spell "Sacred Sword of Vishanti," which became the basic template for the Sorcerer Supreme's modifications to the Blade Pact.

It was destined to be a busy night. After Salomon finished his orders, he would have to pick up Joan of Arc and Bayonetta and bring them back to New York. However, the sorcerer didn't need to rely on the planetary defense system to find the witch, because he had opened a portal to Rodin's bar.

"Good evening, Rodan." Salomon greeted the owner of the Hell's Gate bar as he stepped out of the portal, then mentioned his order with Rodan. The Fallen Angel Rodan was probably the best magical item maker on Earth. Salomon could provide the spells, ordering small magical items from Rodan—for example, the leather shoes he was wearing were imbued with the "Soluble Foot" spell. His visit to the bar wasn't just to pick up Jeanne and Bayonetta; he was also there to retrieve something.

"It's finished." Rodin nodded, pulling out a small cat outfit from behind the bar. This was the one Salomon had ordered. This wasn't an ordinary pet costume, but a magical item. The cat outfit had a grey-blue hood, and two tiny hidden blades at the cuffs of its front paws. Any cat wearing this outfit could control these weapons with its thoughts. In addition, the outfit was imbued with the Spiderwalking spell, allowing the wearer to climb walls—this was prepared by Salomon to enhance the combat abilities of his Cheshire Cat, who did nothing but eat and sleep. After all, the Cheshire Cat was his magical pet, and besides its role in transmitting contact spells, Salomon wanted the Cheshire Cat to be of more help.

Or rather, to help Bayonetta more, since she always brought that cat along when she went to hunt angels. Salomon simply couldn't understand the witch's thoughts; that cat couldn't do anything except meow.

"I really don't understand why you would order something like this." Rodin extinguished his cigar, but the smell lingered. "Are you even borrowing a cat's paw now?"

“That’s a magical pet, not an ordinary cat.” Salomon sat down at the bar after inspecting the little outfit. He ordered a strawberry sundae and waited for Jeanne and Bayonetta to finish their work. “What about my other orders?” he said slowly. “I have so many ideas, like that metal cane that can transform into a whip. I can’t believe you actually finished it; I only gave you a rough sketch.”

Although Rodin's eyes behind the sunglasses couldn't be seen, he seemed somewhat angry. "I've been working on those two tiny hidden blades for ages," he said expressionlessly. "They had to be both small and strong. The designs you provided only made one normal-sized blade; the others were completely useless! And that damned cane—transforming it requires magic, like that activating rope you gave me. Simple mechanical magic can't solve it!"

Salomon shrugged; ordering weapons was a last resort. Excalibur wasn't a Noble Phantasm to be used casually. Such a powerful weapon, with its extremely high energy consumption (which was actually the main reason), could only be used in necessary situations. He urgently needed a weapon he could use in everyday life. Most of the designs he provided were transforming weapons from Bloodborne, but to his surprise, Rodan actually made them, fulfilling all of Salomon's requirements, including those decorative patterns that were mostly useless.

He currently possesses a pair of transforming swords (Luoyang) and a spiral transforming cane. Salomon, a die-hard fan of the game, even wants to commission Rodan to forge other weapons, including firearms—however, he only has rough sketches; Rodan will have to figure out how to complete them himself. Now, in Rodan's eyes, Salomon is the wicked client, always pointing fingers and giving orders. If Salomon weren't the arcane mage and holy son of Kamar-Taj, Rodan would have jumped out from behind the bar and smashed this bastard to pieces.

However, Bayonetta and Jeanne d'Arc also seemed somewhat interested in the weapons, especially Jeanne d'Arc, whose interest in the transforming twin blades even surpassed that of her original rapier. With users and testers, Rodin could receive timely feedback from them. It was this constant stream of positive reviews that finally made the hot-tempered fallen angel craftsman patiently study the blueprints provided by Salomon.

Rodin still didn't give Salomon a friendly look; once people get to know each other, it's hard to be polite anymore. He grumbled as he served Salomon dessert—there was nothing he could do about it; his bar was located in the slums, and he didn't earn much money. The raw materials needed for the bar also required worldly money to buy.

"Where is Enzo?" Salomon looked around. The chubby intelligence merchant who usually came was nowhere to be seen, which was quite strange.

"Today is Enzo's wedding anniversary," Rodin scoffed. "I really don't know how that fat pig found such a good wife. A man like him should be alone forever."

"Perhaps love is just this irrational."

"Like you and Bayonetta?" Rodin scoffed. "Perhaps we should also include Joan of Arc."

"That's irresponsible speculation, Rodin. Only Bayonetta."
