Chapter 165 Slaying the Demon

Chapter 165 Slaying the Demons (First Update!)

Salomon ultimately didn't get to eat the burrito Coulson bought, not only because Agent Coulson's beloved car, Laura, was in serious need of repair after driving into a ditch, but also because, as the president of Captain America's fan club, he absolutely wouldn't allow anyone to make baseless accusations against his idol.

Agent Coulson declared he was severing ties with Salomon, starting a month after the return of the spellbook the following day. The sorcerer had no objection; as long as S.H.I.E.L.D. returned those pages of the Book of Ebony, he didn't care about breaking off relations.

"How's it going?" Mordo asked Salomon with a serious expression. He was standing on the Texas plains, the exposed terrain making the cold night wind blow harder and harder. In the distance, cacti were silhouetted against the pale moonlight, and dry tumbleweeds were pushed about, making a soft rustling sound as they rudely bumped into the crowd. Behind Mordo was a large group of Kamar-Taj sorcerers, the temple deacons tasked with capturing the Prince of Hell tonight, including Kasirius.

When he saw Salomon, he winked at him, pointed at Mordo, and then made a zipping gesture with his lips. Salomon returned the look—Mordo was much more rigid than usual when on a mission; the temple deacons had all lost their relaxed expressions and remained completely silent, just like Mordo standing at the front. Salomon, naturally not wanting to cause trouble, quickly answered his senior brother's question.

"No problem," he said. "S.H.I.E.L.D. will stop Ghost Rider; we just need to worry about the Witchheart."

"This isn't an enemy like 'enough' is, Salomon." Mordo glared at his youngest junior brother, then pulled out the weapon Salomon had commissioned from Rodan. "I don't know why you didn't use the Living Tribunal Scepter, choosing another weapon instead. I sense the power of dark magic in this weapon. Use it with caution. Can you handle that?"

Salomon secretly rolled his eyes. The Venerable One was right; Mordo had indeed become increasingly verbose lately. Mordo even wanted to use high blood pressure as an excuse to forbid the Sorcerer Supreme from eating sugar and adding honey to his tea—that was really going too far.

"Of course, of course." Salomon accepted the transforming twin swords, Luoyang, with a perfunctory reply. The weapons were adorned with Victorian-style silver carvings, hand-carved by fallen angel craftsmen. The combination of Gothic spires and Renaissance-style intertwined patterns gave them a distinctly Victorian feel. Salomon, adhering to the principle that beauty is justice, had chosen this weapon for the mission. Mordo seemed to notice Salomon's perfunctory attitude; he glared at his junior brother but said nothing.

The mission was important, and he would have plenty of time to lecture people after the operation was over.

"According to the confession of the water elemental from the lower plane, the demon that descended from the Hell dimension is Mephisto's son, the Heart Demon, and its goal is to find a contract." Mordo turned around and explained the mission objective to the temple deacons, "A contract containing a thousand souls, this contract is called the Sanctuary Vangel's Contract. This operation determines whether the King of Hell can reclaim the contract. We absolutely cannot allow this contract to fall into the hands of the demon, we absolutely cannot allow Hell to obtain a single soul. That contract will be given to Vishanti for purification. Another group of mages, led by the mage Hamil, has already gone to the location of the contract as determined by divination."

Mordo's speech was utterly mediocre, as dull as his personality. In fact, he had no intention of using a speech to boost morale; he always believed that mages needed composure, and that impulsive, hot-blooded behavior should be resolutely rejected. "According to the confession of the Witchheart's follower, the Witchheart has kidnapped the Ghost Rider's girlfriend, and it will be waiting for the Ghost Rider in the town of San Venganza," he said. "But we can't place our hopes on an evil spirit. When we go to hunt down the Witchheart, be sure to rescue that ordinary person; that's our second objective. The first objective is the contract. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the first objective takes priority. Move out!"

When the Witchheart descended upon Earth, it summoned three elemental beings. The earth and air elementals have already been killed by Ghost Rider, while the water elemental was captured by Mordo in a bar. The Witchheart is now completely alone and without any allies. The reason it doesn't dare summon a large number of helpers is probably because it fears being discovered by the Sorcerer Supreme. The Witchheart believes it cannot defy the Sorcerer Supreme before obtaining the thousand souls of the Sanctuary Vympel Pact—however, the truth is, even if it obtained a thousand souls, it would only be a matter of a single slap from the Sorcerer Supreme; otherwise, it wouldn't have been the Temple Deacons who had to intervene, but the Sorcerer Supreme himself.

The reason Salomon was able to participate in this operation was because the Sorcerer Supreme was monitoring everything that happened during the mission. Since Mephisto's avatar appeared at Eton College, Kamar-Taj had once again lost track of him. His appearance at Eton College hadn't even caught many wizards off guard. This mission was related to Mephisto's old grudges and the client the Lord of Hell longed for (you know who I'm talking about). The Sorcerer Supreme naturally saw this mission as a good opportunity to capture Mephisto's avatar—if the avatar was killed, that part of its soul would return to Hell, leaving the Lord of Hell unscathed, and Mephisto could then send another avatar.

Therefore, the youngest apprentice, Salomon, was not only one of the attackers in this mission, but he also served as bait to lure Mephisto. Salomon fully agreed with this plan, because if Mephisto dared to show himself, the Sorcerer Supreme would seal the avatar of the Lord of Hell as quickly as possible, causing Mephisto to forever lose a part of his soul.

Mordo opened the portal, and the arcane mages filed in, lined up. Since most of the mages here had studied the spells copied by Salomon, they all used "Darksight," and by the faint moonlight obscured by clouds, they could clearly see the dilapidated town not far below the depression. Perhaps because the demons lingered there, the sandstorm swept hurriedly across the town, not daring to linger for even a moment.

"Magic Pact." Mordo waved his hand, summoning the arcane mage who had learned the Blade Magic Pact to step forward as the main attacker. The arcane mage who had learned Magic Blast and Magic Invocation, which enhanced Magic Blast, stood behind the main attacker, ready to provide support at any time.

After discussions between the Sorcerer Supreme and Vishanti, the spell, modified from "Vishanti's Sacred Sword," now summons a white weapon with three marble faces, its form dazzling even in the faintest light. Most arcane mages who choose the Blade Pact select a longsword or staff as their contracted weapon, as these are commonly used weapon forms in Kamar-Taj and are their most comfortable and readily available weapons.

Kasirius chose the longsword, and he and Salomon walked side by side toward the town. "This sword has a vampire's scent," he murmured, examining the long and short Luoyang swords in Salomon's hands. "The vampires we usually encounter aren't this high-level. Could they be those two vampires from Colin Town?"

"That's right," Salomon nodded in reply. "This is a weapon I obtained by trading several enchanting methods with a fallen angel craftsman. It's imbued with dark magic that drains life force and magic that manipulates blood. It's just a pity that this weapon can't be used as a contract weapon for the Blade Pact; the power of the Vishanti will grind those two souls to dust. Also, why did you choose the Blade Pact? Didn't I tell you that Mana Burst is more useful? The Mana Invocation I copied doesn't have many spells that enhance the Blade Pact."

"Don't worry, just watch," Cassirios said smugly. "I'm the best one in the training ground."
