Chapter 194 Stealing a Moment of Leisure from a Busy Schedule
Chapter 194 Stealing a Moment of Leisure Amidst the Busyness (Second Update!)
The arcane mage has been a bit irritable lately.
It wasn't just that the Sorcerer Supreme's swordsmanship training for him had become more rigorous; some household chores were also keeping him incredibly busy. For some reason, Joan of Arc and Bayonetta had taken the Cheshire Cat to the vet for neutering. When Salomon returned, he found the Cheshire Cat wearing an Elizabethan collar, sitting on the sofa with its limbs outstretched, crying loudly, looking utterly dejected, even its short fur was a mess—because its testicles had vanished.
"You have no idea how many female cats it's seduced while we're away!" Jeanne exclaimed angrily in response to Salomon's question. "That little slut! She even brought the upstairs neighbor's female cat into the living room! Not only that, she's made a complete mess of the bathroom. I don't want a bunch of kittens in the house in a few months!"
Bayonetta nodded seriously.
"Boya, it's said that pets and their owners share a certain resemblance." The witch narrowed her eyes, smiling like a sugar cat. "But I certainly don't want you to be that kind of person."
Salomon stopped casting the spell and looked at the gray shorthair cat in his arms with some disbelief.
"Meow~"
"How dare you argue! We should never have installed that little gate for pets on the door. This fat cat is getting more and more arrogant!" Joan's face turned red with anger, and she looked like she wanted to shoot the stupid cat right now.
"Meow!" the Cheshire Cat cried out as it snuggled into Salomon's arms.
"I really can't help you." Salomon lifted the fat cat and looked at it seriously. "You should learn from my loyalty. When you find a female cat you like someday, I'll help you recover. Maybe I can even help you with the wedding."
"Meow meow~"
Besides the cat causing trouble, Pegasus, left at Kamar-Taj headquarters, was also causing a ruckus. The horse was becoming increasingly difficult; after downing two bottles of single malt whisky given to him by Salomon in one go, it had completely taken to drinking. Salomon didn't even know if riding Pegasus constituted drunk driving, since the law didn't specify how drunk driving in a vehicle should be punished! He couldn't very well consult a lawyer about this, could he?
That wasn't all. Athena somehow found a suit of armor for Salomon to wear, but when the sorcerer mounted the horse in the clanging armor, Pegasus complained that the armor would trap the fine hairs on its back. It insisted that Salomon change into something else—Pegasus's wings already significantly hampered the riding experience, and it hated saddles, making it impossible for Salomon to grip the horse's belly and use a lance like a cavalryman. Now, after returning to the Prime Material Plane after a thousand years, this astral steed seemed eager to experience everything it had never experienced before. Finally, Athena sternly reprimanded Pegasus during a visit to Kamar-Taj, and only then did the horse calm down.

"If I weren't feeling down, I wouldn't have come to see you, Stark." Salomon sat on the sofa, sipping his juice listlessly. He had finished his training for the day, including magic, swordsmanship, lance and javelin practice. He didn't have the energy to participate in other Kamar-Taj affairs afterward, and Joan of Arc and Bayonetta had gone shopping. After much deliberation, he decided to bother Tony Stark—mainly because he wanted to learn a skill that would be helpful for creating golems in the future; he still needed to build his own army.
"So... you came to me because your cat was spayed/neutered, am I right?" Stark stopped what he was doing after Salomon arrived. His research was mostly complete, and taking a break now wouldn't hurt. "I don't know any particularly skilled veterinarians who can restore your cat to its original state," he said. "Can't magic do that?"
"I can do that. I'm not here because of the cat neutering thing, but... never mind." Salomon took another sip of juice. "Have you heard anything about S.H.I.E.L.D. lately?"
"A gas explosion occurred at the Orogrand police station, but no one was injured."
"I did that, skip it."
"Project Pegasus..."
"I refuse, Stark, don't even think about it."
"Then what are you doing here?" Stark asked, his face full of suspicion. "Did Nick Fury invite you?"
"Invitation for what?"
"Attending his 'special boy's party." Stark shrugged, pouring himself a drink. "After that old guy woke up, S.H.I.E.L.D. took the shield from me. Apparently, he's joined the program. Didn't Nick Fury mention it to you?"
"No." The arcane mage shook his head. "I know what you mean, but Nick Fury won't invite me because he can't control me. Steve Rogers doesn't know anyone in this world, Peggy Carter is old and nearing death, but SHIELD had her firmly under control until she passed away; as for you, Stark, your Iron Man suit can't protect those around you, you need SHIELD—but I don't. Many times, I only notify SHIELD because the secular forces of Kamar-Taj have some trouble cleaning up their messes, and I'm a thrifty person, I'd rather let SHIELD handle things themselves."
"You're only fifteen, a minor." Stark glanced at Salomon, whose eyes were already narrowed. "I can't believe you're only fifteen and already carrying so much on your shoulders. Kamar-Taj should have plenty of talent. Why is your teacher so strict with you?"
"Because it's my responsibility." Salomon waved his hand and lay completely back on the sofa. "Just consider it a destined path. The more I work now, the fewer people will die in the future."
"You advised me before not to take responsibility for everything in the future, but you did it anyway. Salomon Damonette, why are you so arrogant, thinking you can bear everything? I am also human, I have an obligation to shoulder those responsibilities—and I am older than you, children should focus on their studies—or learn magic."
“You can call it arrogance, Stark,” Salomon said, not even bothering to open his eyes, “but it’s because of my position. In old terms, I am a lord, and I have a responsibility to protect my people.”
"But this is a modern society now, and old ideas are outdated."
"That's not necessarily true."
"Oh? I'm interested to hear your explanation."
"Asgard," the sorcerer explained, "Asgard is a kingdom built on supernatural power, ruled from the very beginning by the Aesir pantheon. Although the technology possessed by ordinary people has improved since then, it still lags far behind the power of the Aesir. Even the lifespans of the Aesir and Vanir gods are vastly different from those of ordinary Asgardians. The feudal political system of this kingdom has never changed."
"continue."
"Other planets without supernatural powers as rulers have followed a path similar to Earth's current state. For example, the Kree Empire is characterized by its strong martial spirit, clear social division of labor, and the presence of both aristocratic and financial classes, with social resources concentrated at the top. However, because the Supreme Intelligence has equally endowed all Kree people with all knowledge and power, society remains relatively stable, and class stratification is not severe." The sorcerer displayed an image of Hala, a planet of the Kree Empire, in his left hand, while his right hand showed the appearance of another planet.
"Then there's Xandar, one of the Kree Empire's formidable rivals. This nation also possesses Worldmind, a supercomputer corresponding to the Supreme Intelligence. The 'Nova Energy' generated by this supercomputer powers Xandar's 'Nova Legion' in combat. You can think of these people as Xandar's special forces, except these guys like to wander around, maintaining cosmic peace—as for what kind of peace, that's for them to define. However, if they come to Earth, they're just asking for death, and I'd be happy to cut off their heads."
"Wait, wait, you're still a minor, don't talk about cutting off heads..."
"Alright, then let's petrify them. In short, human political systems are meaningless in this universe. This is a world where might makes right, a thoroughly social Darwinist world. The quality of life we enjoy now is solely due to the development of productivity, and has little to do with who rules, the political system, freedom, or so-called democracy. Do you think aliens would be interested in listening to those elected politicians dictate things?"
"But you are human."
"The Sorcerer Supreme has the biggest fist, so no one dares to come to Earth and cause trouble. I am the lord, I have the biggest fist, so everyone has to listen to me." The sorcerer laughed as he spoke words tinged with bloodlust. "I welcome anyone who dares to challenge my power. You can try."
"That's arrogance." Stark felt that the psychological problems of the person in front of him might be even more serious than his own.
"That's right, that's arrogance."
