Chapter 207 Outsider
Chapter 207 The Outsider (First Update!)
Nick Fury was having a headache, but the person causing him that headache wasn't Salomon. On the contrary, the sorcerer had become a good boy after saying those words, and the annoying guy had become someone else. Although Salomon was still wearing his armor, and his ornate, sheathed longsword lay askew beside him, he was the most well-behaved of all those summoned.
While the others were arguing, Salomon quietly read his book, showing no intention of joining the conversation. Aside from occasionally asking Dr. Bruce Banner about his homework, he made almost no other move.
Compared to Stark, he seemed completely unconcerned about Phase Two. When he saw the weapons S.H.I.E.L.D. developed based on the Tesseract, he didn't express the same disgust as Captain Rogers. This pleased Nick Fury; he could guess Salomon's thoughts: the arcane sorcerer was quite supportive of any preparations humanity made to arm itself. Whether the prototypes of these weapons originated from Hydra or not, as long as they were used to deal with alien enemies, that was what a guardian standing on the side of humanity should consider. Nick Fury liked this pragmatic way of thinking; he felt he and Salomon Damonette were kindred spirits.
Why does a minor act more mature than these adults?
Nick Fury suspected this might be due to Salomon's upbringing. He knew about the Colin incident, the two events in Salem, and the Sun Island incident, which S.H.I.E.L.D. still didn't fully understand. No minor had ever experienced such brutality growing up. He never asked Salomon how many people he had killed, and the arcane mage's attitude this time was exactly what he wanted, even though it defied all social norms. He believed Salomon Damonette would understand him, just as he understood Salomon Damonette.
They are all staunch protectors of humanity.
Stark had no intention of involving Salomon in the discussion. He left Jarvis behind to tutor Salomon with his homework, keeping the arcane mage in the meeting room—regardless of Salomon's identity, he was ultimately a minor, and protecting the Earth was best left to adults. They had billionaires, playboys, genius inventors, a green fat man who swelled up when angry, a legendary warrior awakened from the ice, and even the world's most skilled spy. Their duty was to keep danger out of the lives of minors like Salomon, not to involve them.
Steve Rogers had no intention of questioning Salomon. Although he'd seen Nick Fury and Salomon scuffle like thugs, he'd considered it a joke, like that ridiculous tickling curse. But now, after that chilling speech, Captain Rogers was even more confused about Salomon's intentions. Although the arcane mage had revealed many unsavory truths to him, Captain Rogers didn't quite trust Salomon yet, because he knew Nick Fury and Salomon Damonette were hiding many things from him, but now wasn't the time to pry.
As for Agent Romanov, she had other matters to attend to. Compared to others, she understood Salomon's cold-blooded ruthlessness better; this man reserved all his warmth for those closest to him, leaving nothing for others. In fact, Agent Romanov believed that if anyone close to Salomon violated the rules, the sorcerer would also kill them without hesitation, because he was a tool born solely to follow the rules.
Agent Coulson sat opposite Salomon, silent and awkward. He wasn't idle; staying here to keep Salomon from wandering off was Nick Fury's assignment. Stark and Salomon Damonette were two of Nick Fury's primary targets, both posing a threat to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secret intelligence.
Keep a close eye on them and don't let them know things they shouldn't know. That's Agent Coulson's mission.
"Why are you still doing your homework?" Coulson tried to start a conversation. "We've captured Loki, and you should provide some information to facilitate interrogation. Aside from Thor, no one here knows Asgard better than you."
"Loki is cunning, like the devil. But worse than the devil, he's fickle and has no sense of contractual obligation." Salomon looked up from his notebook, glancing at Agent Coulson. "Loki is smarter than most people on this Helicarrier because he's a spellcaster. For spellcasters, knowledge is power, and the more powerful the spellcaster, the smarter they are. In fact, I'm quite curious that you were able to capture Loki, because if he didn't want to, no one could have captured him."
Agent Coulson's expression changed, and he hurriedly left to report to the director. The director was right; Salomon was like a tube of toothpaste—he wouldn't reveal anything unless you squeezed hard enough. Agent Coulson was now only grateful for the director's foresight. Salomon Damonette did indeed know certain things, whether through divination or mere speculation. The information provided by the arcane mage was extremely important—S.H.I.E.L.D. possessed an entire database and analysis team dedicated to studying Salomon, yet this man remained shrouded in mystery. S.H.I.E.L.D. had no way of knowing anything Salomon was unwilling to disclose.
Salomon didn't care what S.H.I.E.L.D. planned; he only wanted things to unfold as they were. His goal was to minimize civilian casualties while simultaneously achieving the Sorcerer Supreme's warning to the world, and for this, he had to be prepared. This plan required the Sorcerer Supreme's permission to begin, but even as he set off, the Supreme hadn't given a clear answer—he commanded seventy-two Daedric Princes, each possessing an immense army, which constituted his power. If necessary, he would summon Phoenix, which would then command an army to confront the Chitauri army in space.
This behavior, however, is tantamount to breaking the Sorcerer Supreme's prohibition against extradimensional beings—summoning spells and invocation spells are different; one can only summon an avatar, while the other can summon the true form. The power of an avatar and the true form differs, as does the time they can remain on the material plane. The former can only stay for a fixed period, while the latter can remain indefinitely. An avatar is merely an avatar, but the true form can summon allies, and allies can summon even more allies, endlessly. Witches' spells are all summoning spells, capable only of summoning avatars, which is why the Sorcerer Supreme allowed them to live.
The Phoenix summoned by Salomon was the real Phoenix, and it was under Salomon's control that Phoenix did not summon the Abyss Legion. These armies' ability to remain on Earth for so long is a violation of the rules, so only the Sorcerer Supreme can make the decision; even Salomon cannot interfere.
He scribbled in his notebook, then shut out Jarvis's incessant chatter and sighed helplessly. He couldn't understand why these aliens and extradimensional beings didn't come on weekends. The Sorcerer Supreme had already asked for leave for him so many times; even the royal family wasn't as busy as him. He had class tomorrow! After all this, he'd need to adjust to the time difference to make sure he didn't fall asleep in class!
Damn it! He'd found another reason to kill Thanos, and he needed to write it down in his notebook so he wouldn't forget it later.
Why is the Helicarrier shaking so violently? What happened? Why did the bullets fly past me? How did this grenade get to my feet? Why are they so panicked?
Salomon yawned lazily, continuing to work on his homework, seemingly oblivious to everything around him. "You little brat!" Nick Fury yanked Salomon and his chair aside. "Are you out of your mind?"
"Don't worry, those weapons pose no threat to me." The sorcerer waved his hand impatiently; he still had a lot of work to do. Everyone has to bear the consequences of their actions; taking leave doesn't come without a price, and he was now paying the price for his absence.
"Did you know all along that an attack was going to happen?!" Nick Fury shouted from under the table.
"Hmm~" The sorcerer raised an eyebrow.
"Did you already know Loki's purpose?!"
"Hmm~"
"Then why don't you say so?"
"You didn't ask. Besides... some of the things Loki did were things I was also required to do."
"Monther F*uck! We're going to crash!"
"Don't worry, I can fly."
"Monther F*uck!"
