Marvel Magic Case Files

Chapter 228 A Contingency Plan

Chapter 228 A Second Move (Second Update)

"Agent Romanov says you've developed artificial intelligence..."

"F*uck off!" Salomon began to rage. Before he could even settle accounts with Jarvis, Nick Fury had already blocked his way at Eton College. The guy had practically barged into his dormitory, acting as if he were no guest at all. "Get to the point," the sorcerer said irritably, throwing down his book and loosening his black tie. The sight of Nick Fury made him feel an unbearable itch, as if ants were crawling all over his back. This guy couldn't be coming for nothing, Salomon thought, and gave Nick Fury a cold shoulder.

"Do you know how I told the Senate, Congress, and the World Security Council about your identity?" Nick Fury pointed to himself. "I told them you came from some unknown corner, and I didn't reveal your identity. But that won't last long. My boss, Alexander Pierce, already knows I know you, those senators are clamoring for the Avengers to be brought to a hearing, and my boss has invited you to share your magic."

"Do you know why I went to that Skrull? If you knew, you wouldn't be saying all this. Did you come to me just to spout this nonsense?" Salomon didn't care about the politicians' thoughts at all. Those useless people only had their political status built up by votes and political donations; their attitudes were completely unimportant to Salomon. He was about to turn and leave when he suddenly remembered something: Nick Fury's words weren't spoken for nothing. If anyone else heard these words, they would surely feel indebted to Nick Fury. And his mention that Salomon's identity couldn't be kept secret for long was also a kind of threat, meaning that only he could keep it a secret—if it were an ordinary person, Nick Fury's words would have an effect, but Salomon didn't accept threats, and he wasn't an ordinary person.

"Let's start with that senator I punched the other day," the sorcerer said, shifting from defense to offense. "How many heads would it take to silence the White House?"

"Ahem, you little rascal." Nick Fury showed no frustration; uttering those words was merely a habit. He had known all along that Salomon wouldn't give in. He was just casually scooping up a handful of fish from the river; whether he caught a big one or not didn't matter to him. Seeing that nonsense wasn't working, Nick Fury got down to business. "Captain Rogers wants to see you." He clicked his tongue. "Actually, someone else wants to see you. You've probably heard her legendary story—Peggy Carter, the founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. You'd better decide quickly; Peggy Carter isn't always lucid."

"F*uck off!" Salomon made a move to leave. He didn't think Nick Fury needed to come and tell him personally; the guy definitely had other motives. "Okay, wait a minute." Nick Fury, just as Salomon had expected, skipped the topic. "Be patient, you little brat, I'm not finished yet."

"You'd better hurry, because I've discovered that 16th-century English court cuisine is quite good; my prejudice has made me miss out on many delicacies."

"Captain Rogers does want to see you because you disappeared after Agent Coulson's funeral, and nobody told him where you were. The same goes for Peggy Carter. Did you know that Peggy Carter's nanny was planning to adopt you? If your adoption information hadn't been mysteriously cancelled, you would know Peggy Carter by now—what an amazing coincidence. But none of that matters," Nick Fury said. "Remember the Ghost Rider Captain Rogers fought? We've rediscovered his location—now it's time for you to fulfill your duty. You promised Kamar-Taj you would keep extradimensional beings out of Earth."

"Are you sure you want to beat around the bush? The fate of Ghost Rider is decided by Kamar-Taj, not you." Salomon rolled his eyes. "The only reason you're still alive is because your job is too important. Otherwise, given the trouble you've caused, I would have reason to carry out humanitarian extermination against you. So, learn to shut up, Nick Fury."

"Really?" Nick Fury's face lit up with interest. "Just like when you accepted the offer to resurrect Agent Coulson? Does that mean I'll be saving the world in the future?"

"Damn it, I hate spies." The arcane wizard raised his middle finger. "I don't know as much as the Sorcerer Supreme, but I do know your role in the future. So, accept your death, Nick Fury. You can't escape it."

"Okay, we still have many problems to solve, let's take it one step at a time. You've developed artificial intelligence, haven't you?"

"Yes." Salomon rolled his eyes, deciding to get rid of Nick Fury as soon as possible.

"Master, why did you tolerate that mortal questioning you?" After Nick Fury left, the android emerged from the mirror dimension. The android was utterly bewildered by what had happened. She brandished her long katana. "If Master finds this tiresome, I can kill that mortal for you."

"No, my dear assistant, Nick Fury is too important. I haven't found anyone who can replace him yet," Salomon sighed. Nick Fury wasn't coming to him for amusement. Although he liked to beat around the bush, he had indeed revealed some information: he hadn't brought anyone with him this time, and his main purpose in meeting Salomon was to set up a backup plan. According to Nick Fury, Salomon was someone he trusted who had no connection with S.H.I.E.L.D. and no ties to the secular world. Because he didn't have a stand-in, his work on uncovering hidden forces within S.H.I.E.L.D. was progressing slowly, but even so, Nick Fury had still unearthed some startling information. To prevent his plan to purge forces within S.H.I.E.L.D. from failure, Nick Fury also gave Salomon a document, instructing him to only open it after receiving a message, and to immediately clean up the Trisolaran headquarters upon receiving the message.

A truly thorough cleanup, leaving no cockroach untouched.

The document listed the locations of several top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. bases, but Salomon showed no intention of waiting for a signal. He brazenly opened the document bag before Nick Fury had even left, infuriating Fury. The arcane mage had no interest in these secret bases or what was hidden there, because the Rainbow Bridge to Asgard was nearing completion—by then, no S.H.I.E.L.D. base would be able to withstand its attack, and the exposure of these bases' locations was already a foregone conclusion.

"Master, if you feel Nick Fury's work is too important, why not take those powers away?" The homunculus couldn't understand Salomon's thoughts. "At that time, you won't have to face these mortals' inquiries, and secular governments won't be able to resist your power. I don't think your teacher, the Sorcerer Supreme, would mind if you did that."

"And then what? Should I recruit civil servants?" Salomon sighed. The moral boundaries of the androids were indeed worrying. The androids were not mindless constructs. Salomon could not completely control the actions and thoughts of the androids, so he could only try to let Dina learn about human society.

"Let ordinary people do what they want. We only need to regulate the growth of human society. Human society will naturally eliminate various systems. As long as humanity doesn't destroy itself, we won't interfere." Salomon picked up his phone and dialed a number. "I have something to discuss with God."
