Chapter 277 A Man Must Live with a Curse
Chapter 277 A Man Must Live with a Curse (Second Update)
It took Salomon a whole day to move the basic experimental equipment and necessities that Maya Hansen needed into the Immortal City. He also slightly modified his construct robot to clear the ruins in the Immortal City. Salomon couldn't do anything about the collapsed buildings; his construct could only clear a passage leading deeper into the Immortal City, where the buildings were relatively intact.
Maya Hansen no longer needs to live on the sofa; she has hundreds of lavishly decorated rooms to choose from. She is clearly very satisfied with the four-poster bed with its deep red curtains, as well as the small tea set and the skull she found in the ruins, which she takes with her wherever she goes.
Another small adventure goal set by the arcane mage and Maya Hansen was to find the power source for the Immortal City. Relying solely on diesel generators couldn't sustain the entire laboratory; they had to find the Immortal City's power generation device to reactivate this dead city. As a nascent organization, they needed all of the Brotherhood of the Shield's research to bolster their ranks. After figuring out Salomon's personality, Maya Hansen began complaining about the lack of staff. Salomon assured her he would definitely recruit more talent, as this place would serve as his rear base.
Recruiting talent can only begin after S.H.I.E.L.D. is destroyed; Salomon plans to recruit some unemployed personnel from S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra. With magical contracts as a guarantee, these individuals can ensure basic loyalty.
He also gave Maya Hansen a bank card as a prepayment for her salary, which was to be paid annually. However, before Salomon set up the teleportation array for her initial entry, secular currency held little meaning for Maya Hansen. She couldn't even go out to buy clothes, and Salomon had to personally make the trip to buy her the clothes she needed.
Without a doubt, Maya Hansen was a beautiful woman, and a smart one at that. She knew exactly what kind of person her new boss was. Teenage boy, wizard, rich man—whatever his status or personality, as long as he was male, Maya Hansen had a way of dealing with him. She deliberately changed her blood-stained clothes in front of Salomon and washed herself with hot water, wanting to see Salomon's embarrassed expression. To her surprise, Salomon not only didn't avoid her, but even openly watched her actions, and even let out a disdainful laugh.
This infuriated Maya Hansen.
"Believe me, I'm used to seeing women's bodies. I'm not some hormone-fueled teenager," he said. "Ms. Hansen, what I need is your brain, your wisdom, not your body. I'm not like Stark; I can control my desires. It's a skill I've mastered. I'm not a dog in heat."
So she gave Salomon the middle finger, since Salomon had insulted her as well.
Salomon entrusted the dungeon adventures to Maya Hansen, as he needed to return to his studies. Therefore, he could only leave behind a few constructs to assist the biologists in excavating the high-tech artifacts hidden within the Immortal City and, incidentally, to act as guards. Although Salomon hadn't discovered any danger during his initial exploration, Maya Hansen was just an ordinary person and lacked the ability to handle real threats.
"How is Killian?"
Just as he was about to leave, Maya Hansen finally brought up the crucial question.
"He's enjoying life in hell right now," Salomon waved his hand, showing no intention of continuing the conversation. He didn't care at all about Killian's condition; in fact, he only heard about the president's rescue while shopping for clothes. From this, he deduced that Killian, the instigator, was likely to meet a bad end.
Seeing the sorcerer's unfriendly attitude, Maya Hansen turned her attention to his choice of university. However, the sorcerer's answer displeased his new subordinate. "Why not Cambridge?" she asked. "I graduated from Cambridge. Are you planning to pursue a political career? If not, going to the Land of Enlightenment and the Source of Wisdom is the most sensible choice."
"That's the best Oxford preparatory school in the world. Goodnight, my lady." Salomon waved and disappeared through the portal before Maya Hansen could toss the skull over. "I am a heretic, I am an unbeliever, I am here to destroy religion."
“You’ve been gone all day, Boya.” Bayonetta leaned closer and sniffed Salomon. “I don’t know why you’re becoming more childlike as you grow up,” she said. “You smell of dust all over you now, did you go rolling around in some ruins?”
"Of course not... uh, I'm just digging for treasure."
"I don't care, go take a shower now, or you'll be saying goodbye to your dinner!" The witch tried to use dinner as a threat to drive Salomon into the bathroom, but the sorcerer still saw the mess in the kitchen. "You should have asked Diana for help," he said. "You always try to cast spells on the kitchen utensils. You should know that won't work. There's no cooking magic in the witches' innate spells."
"I'm a homebody, I don't need any help." Bayonetta rarely showed such embarrassment, a rare sight for the usually assertive witch. Although Bayonetta often called herself a homebody, she was completely inept at housework and related matters. Since moving in with Salomon, all the housework had been done by him. So every time Bayonetta messed up the kitchen and Salomon witnessed it, she would show an embarrassed expression, as if her boast had been exposed, yet she would continue to do it the next time.
"A stay-at-home woman wouldn't step on someone with high heels, although I quite like it... but let's leave cooking to the androids, they're our housekeepers. Oh, a phone call? Honey, I'll be back for dinner."
"How long are you going to stop cursing me?" Nick Fury slammed his fist on the table in a fit of rage, but then a wave of helplessness washed over him. He was already overwhelmed with the affairs of S.H.I.E.L.D., and didn't even have time to reach out and rescue the president. Salomon's curse was driving him crazy. When he had to take off his bunny ears, he made mistakes at everything—accidentally spilling coffee on the keyboard, ignoring the most prominent data in a document, accidentally turning the water to the highest temperature in the shower, and even tripping and falling down the stairs.
He summoned Salomon to the Trisolaran headquarters so that the sorcerer could lift the curse. "I'm already tormented enough by your curse, Salomon," he said, slumping into a chair and closing his eyes. "Please, let me go. I truly have no more will to bear this curse."
"Then you have to promise me some things."
