Chapter 278 Scientific research is expensive, and so is magic (First Update)

Nick Fury faced scrutiny for failing to assist the president, and he had to testify at a hearing about his actions in the incident. However, the truth was that he genuinely did not take any action to rescue the president; his only argument was that his subordinate, Agent Maria Hill, used S.H.I.E.L.D. resources to investigate Killian.

If he cannot prove that he has taken action to protect the President of the United States, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s budget for the next quarter is likely to be cut short. The FBI, NSA, and CIA are all strong contenders for the budget. FBI Director Robert Mueller has even declared that if the FBI had a larger budget, the President would never have been kidnapped.

Of course, Nick Fury would never allow this to happen, and he had other methods—such as blaming the military. It was because the military invested in Killian's AIM company that the Extremis virus had the funds to continue its research; it was because the military failed to fulfill its duties that the president was kidnapped. Furthermore, when S.H.I.E.L.D. dealt with AIM's assets, they discovered that a large portion of the Extremis virus's data had been lost, and S.H.I.E.L.D. was currently tracking down its whereabouts.

But whatever method he intends to use to retaliate, he must ensure he is clear-headed and quick-witted at the hearing; he cannot appear at the hearing wearing those rabbit ears. This disappointed Salomon, who was eager to see the expressions on the faces of the senators and the Secretary of Defense when they saw Nick Fury wearing rabbit ears!

However, he was also curious as to why Nick Fury was so certain that he could lift the curse.

"Maya Hansen, you appeared on surveillance footage with Maya Hansen," Nick Fury said. "According to Stark, Maya Hansen is dead. You probably didn't expect that the cameras at Killian Base were left on. Don't worry, I've deleted the video. In return, I want you to lift the curse. Also, I need to know about the Extremis virus. Maya Hansen is a key witness; she knows a lot."

"You won." Salomon patted Nick Fury on the shoulder, lifting the curse he had placed. Nick Fury jumped up from his chair, ripped off the rabbit ears and tossed them aside, moving as nimbly as a rabbit.

"I've had enough of this!" he sighed. "I'm warning you, don't think you can curse the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. with impunity!"

"Sizzle—"

"What is this?"

"curse."

"SHIT!"

"So, all you've got in your life is fighting and studying? You should know it's pretty tedious, right?" Maya Hansen, wearing goggles and rubber gloves, expertly dissected the body lying on the cold iron bed with a scalpel. Although this body wasn't exactly human, Maya Hansen had a deep understanding of mammalian anatomy, so it wasn't a challenge for her.

"Haven't you ever thought about going to parties or something? I used to go to parties when I was in school. You know, guys who bury themselves in books aren't popular with girls... Well, looking at your figure and your face, I guess there are exceptions." She used a scalpel to cut along the collarbone, then made a long incision along the midline. She inserted the scalpel beneath the skin, carefully separating the hairy skin, fat, and torso to make it easier to pry open the ribs and examine the internal organs. Salomon provided a lot of research material; this wasn't the first time she had dissected a non-human species.

But each time, she was awestruck by the bodies of these humanoid monsters. Limited by existing research methods and equipment, she could only conduct a rough analysis of these creatures. The findings included, but were not limited to, the heat-resistant cells of creatures with the Purgatory bloodline, the abnormal state of platelets in patients with the Beast Transformation Disease, and the abnormal oxidation rate of vampire red blood cells.

She believed that if she could replicate the heat-resistant cells of the Infernal Bloodline creatures onto the human body, she could create an Extremis virus that would never go out of control.

"As a way of repaying you for helping me out of trouble, I can reluctantly become your practice date. But you weren't as calm as you claim when you saw my body; I even saw you crossing your legs—don't tell me that's just social etiquette, I'll never believe that nonsense again! Why are you looking at me like that? I can't always solve problems with my own hands, can I?"

"You should keep your mouth shut during the dissection to avoid the Beast Transformation virus entering your respiratory system." Salomon flipped through the book Maya Hansen had specified. This subordinate worked as his tutor on the side when he wasn't working, and this part of the work was unpaid. They were currently in a room in the Immortal City, directly below Maya Hansen's bedroom.

This place was temporarily converted into an anatomy room. The expensive handmade wool carpet was removed, but the tapestry depicting Samson killing a lion with his bare hands was not taken. Salomon also did not put wallpaper on the wooden walls.

He brought in several freezers as temporary storage for the corpses. The bodies being dissected were all from the attack on the orphanage, meaning he had personally killed all the dark magic creatures here, so most of the bodies were somewhat mutilated. Without proper anatomical guidance, Salomon couldn't understand the weaknesses of these dark magic creatures, so he wanted Ms. Maya Hansen to compile a complete set of physiological research data on the dark magic creatures.

This information can also serve as teaching material for training the secular forces of Kamar-Taj in the future.

"Doesn't the beast-like disease meet your needs, boss?"

"No." Salomon took a bite of dry bread, as if the stench of the corpse didn't exist. He didn't turn around, but continued scribbling on the paper. "What I need are humans—or you can call them mutants. They can possess some magical abilities, but I don't need them to be able to reproduce. I need them to be able to replace the arcane mages in secular society, so we can focus on dealing with the attacks from the outer dimensions."

"Oh my god, another term I've never heard of before. You really should explain what those terms mean to me. What is outer dimension? A higher dimension? Four-dimensional space or five-dimensional space?"

"You can think of the universe as an egg. Our material universe is the yolk, and the egg white is the endless void beyond." The sorcerer put down his pen, projecting a semi-transparent illusion above his head. "But the problem is, there are other yolks in this egg, and as they develop, they constantly try to absorb the nutrients from our yolk. So it's a never-ending struggle. And what's worse, there's more than one egg in this world, and the yolks in other eggs don't always stay obediently in their egg whites—after all, our yolk is larger and more nutritious."

"That's a really easy-to-understand explanation. Have you considered becoming a teacher in the future?"

"I don't need to work. After I graduate, I'll have to devote myself entirely to the war against the outer dimensions. In fact, I'm currently facing an outer dimension war against me personally, or more precisely, a war waged by the Lords of Hell against me. So I have to speed up my research. Okay, I'll exclude those other things from my research life."

"Is there something special about you?" Maya Hansen stopped what she was doing, looked up at Salomon's retreating figure, her voice filled with curiosity. "Or is it that the interdimensional war will be started because of any boy?"

"This is a bloody war for the throne; isn't reducing competitors common sense?"

"So, you're special?"

"You could say that," the sorcerer nodded. "There will always be someone who wants my life. Demons love my soul, and as for gods... well, that depends on which pantheon. Alright, the exam is finished, now you can grade it for me."

"Ever since the Asgardians arrived, I've lost track of which myths are true and which are false... Hmm, you already know all this, so why are you going through all this trouble to review?"

"My goal is a perfect score. And by the way, could you share some A-Level exam tips with me, sweet-smiling lady?"

"It's a frail lady." Maya Hansen sneered, slamming the perfect score test paper onto Salomon's table. "Alright, you can go now. I need to continue my work. Next time, bring back some virus samples and research equipment—you promised me. Listen carefully: I need a flow cytometer, a fully automated biochemical analyzer, a urine analyzer, a hematology analyzer, a coagulation analyzer, an erythrocyte sedimentation rate analyzer, a cryostat, a rotary microtome, a pathological image diagnostic processing system, an ultrapure water preparation system, a refrigerated centrifuge, an ELISA reader, a CO2 incubator, and a biosafety cabinet. Finally, I need a bunch of mice. Boss, can you afford all this?"

"Phew...wait a minute, I'm going to rob a bank first..."
