Chapter 280 Go for it! Polaris Quidditch Team! (First Update)
"cough!"
Hearing the cough, little Lorna quickly straightened up, pressing her back tightly against the whitewashed wall, completely ignoring the white dust left on her clothes. Lorna felt the pain in the soles of her feet intensify; the tightly bound shoelaces felt like shackles, and the soles of her shoes were like hard iron plates. She wanted to take off her shoes and walk barefoot on the cold, smooth ground; she could imagine the exhilarating feeling that would spread throughout her body, just like she had done countless times before.
However, her wish was destined to remain unfulfilled, for a pair of bright, piercing eyes were fixed on her, as if trying to wring her out like a towel, squeezing out every trace of her shame. Yet, she felt no such emotion; her heart pounded with the tension and trepidation of her mischief being exposed, and her eyes held only excitement. Fortunately, she wasn't alone in her punishment; her dearest brother stood beside her.
She lowered her head and quietly stuck out her tongue.
"You should know why I asked you to discipline little Lorna, shouldn't you?" Her dearest brother was questioned first; as the eldest, he was obligated to take responsibility. "Your mischief has come too late, at the worst possible time, Salomon," Athena said. "You shouldn't have taken little Lorna to do those things, just as you shouldn't have given her the pistol."
But I'm very happy, and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Little Lorna thought to herself, "I've never done anything so exciting in my life! If we hadn't been discovered, we might have become rich!"
Salomon lowered his head, remaining silent and accepting his foster mother's accusations. He and Lorna were complete novices when it came to robbing banks; it was more like theft than robbery, and more like a leisurely stroll than theft. They followed all the instructions online, and even the location of the vault was found by him using magic to track the guards.
After stepping out of the portal, Lorna didn't rush to collect the dollars. Instead, she raised her hands and jumped into the pile of banknotes with a cheer—this money belonged to AIM Corporation's working capital, which Nick Fury had secretly transferred to this bank. Salomon only learned of this after seeing classified S.H.I.E.L.D. documents. It was only because Nick Fury subjectively believed that Salomon looked down on worldly money that he had the opportunity to learn this information.
Salomon originally intended to use the money to purchase experimental equipment, and his only competitor was Nick Fury, who also wanted to use the money to build a secret base. But seeing the banknotes flying everywhere, he had to slow down his plans to move the money. He let little Lorna roll around in the pile of banknotes, treating the place like a playground, and even used the US dollars to start a small campfire for a barbecue.
Anyway, the vault door was very thick, so no sound could get out.
But the sorcerer had to admit that letting little Lorna run wild had backfired spectacularly; his excessive pampering had only emboldened the child. She pulled out a spray can from somewhere and started graffitiing all over the bank vault. Salomon could only stop her before things got even worse (referring to little Lorna spraying paint on the banknotes).
"We should get down to business."
"Can't we leave some kind of memento?"
"No, little Lorna, we've already wasted too much time. Here, put the money in the bag, we..."
"Are we going to use the portal? What about the flying broomstick?"
"Maybe next time."
Just then, the door to the underground vault opened. The bank's tellers were preparing to begin their work, and the law-abiding bank clerk stared in disbelief as the sorcerer pulled little Lorna from the pile of banknotes. Little Lorna wanted to explain, but for a moment she didn't know what to say.
"Are you going to the pool party too?" She blinked her innocent big eyes.
"Ahhh—"
"If you can calm down, we can resolve this peacefully..." the sorcerer tried to calm him down.
"Hurry up and get someone here!!"
"Alright." Salomon gestured to the fleeing bank clerk, and something seemed to vibrate in the air as rose petals fell from his hand. The clerk then collapsed onto the marble floor with a thud, his gold-rimmed glasses falling to the side.
"Is he dead?" Little Lorna asked worriedly.
"No, he was just asleep. At most, he had a headache when he woke up, and maybe his nose hurt too. I'm sure someone heard him scream. We need to hurry." The arcane mage waved his hand, restoring the scattered banknotes to their original positions, and then pushed them into the newly opened portal. Little Lorna only saw darkness on the other side of the portal, with only a few glimmers of light. She didn't know where the other side was, but her overwhelming excitement made her forget about that question.
"The vault doors are now open." Salomon pulled out two masks and handed one to little Lorna. Little Lorna instantly understood what he meant. She excitedly put on the mask and grabbed the flying broom that was lying dozing to the side.
"I'm ready!" she said, bouncing around.
"Let's go!"
"Go Gryffindor!"
"Guess how many people saw you fly out of the bank on your flying broomsticks?" Athena poked Salomon's forehead with her finger, making little Lorna chuckle to herself. Athena didn't let her off the hook, poking harder as if trying to pierce Lorna's skull, wanting to physically etch the lesson into the girl's mind. The girl closed her eyes, feigning a wronged expression, her short, black-green hair bouncing back and forth in rhythm with Athena's fingers, as mischievous and rebellious as its owner.
"You know what? You're just like a skunk that never grows up!"
Little Lorna was no longer anxious, because if Minerva poked her forehead, it meant the matter wasn't serious. That's how Minerva had scolded her when she took coins from pedestrians' pockets. But if Minerva was overly calm, it meant things were bad, and Little Lorna felt that Minerva absolutely couldn't find out about stealing the gun.
The sorcerer was well aware of the sensation they had caused on social media; the hashtag "#HarryPotterIsReal" quickly topped the charts. Even more crucially, the mask he chose for little Lorna was a character mask from the Harry Potter series.
People in this era are interested in strange and unusual things.
"Don't worry, they'll just think it's some kind of CG animation or some cutting-edge technology. Who cares? Netizens only have seven days' memories anyway." Salomon blinked. The bank couldn't reveal the stolen money because it had "never existed" from the beginning. As for Nick Fury, he could tell at a glance that Salomon was behind it, but the sorcerer had no intention of admitting it, and Nick Fury had no evidence anyway.
He'd bet on it.
"Boss! You actually... I love you so much!" Maya Hansen cheered, clutching a wad of cash. "We can buy all the necessary experimental equipment now! Just have your robots help carry it up! And those dark magic creature corpses, hurry up and throw them away; the freezer isn't cold enough, they're starting to stink!"
"Buy the experimental equipment yourself, madam. This money is yours to manage. There are several hundred million dollars here (one hundred million dollars is about 1.5 cubic meters). You need to contact people you know in the past who accept cash transactions."
"Aren't you going to use online banking anymore? How am I supposed to carry so much money out of here?"
"You can do it." Salomon pulled several silver safes from behind his back. "Each safe can hold 64 cubic feet, or 1.81 cubic meters. One safe, worth a hundred million dollars, even when full, won't weigh more than fifteen pounds. And this." The sorcerer then took an iron-colored ring from his pocket. "This is a gift for you."
"That's great, I've been wanting to stop wearing plaid shirts for ages. Also, if you're going to propose, please allow me to decline. While I wouldn't mind something happening between us, I think it's too rushed..."
"This is a defensive ring." Salomon ignored Maya Hansen's increasingly absurd behavior since arriving in the Immortal City; the woman seemed to be on the verge of madness. He said, "This ring can slightly enhance your defensive capabilities, but don't get your hopes up too high; you can still be hit by bullets."
Maya Hansen patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. "That's great," she said. "I thought you were going to propose."
"Stop talking nonsense and get this place set up quickly. We need to start the experiment as soon as possible."
"Where are the test subjects? I don't want to create a super soldier who opposes us, like a villain in a comic book. And what about my colleague you promised?"
"I have already chosen your colleagues." The sorcerer nodded, as if he had already made his choice long ago. It was a group of spellcasters who had been scattered since the fall of Camelot and continued to this day. Balthazar had only recently learned of their whereabouts. This group of wizards was so well hidden that they had almost blended into secular society.
Now, he is going to reclaim this wizarding order, in the name of the heir to the Holy Sword.
"This will be my first meeting with your future colleagues. If they refuse... you'll have experimental subjects, ma'am."
