Chapter 293 Caught Red-Handed, Sir

Chapter 293 Caught Red-Handed, Sir (Second Update)

A lean man in a black suit glanced around the corridor, looked at the security camera, and then headed towards the target's apartment door. "This target is really strange, Mr. Reese. I suggest you observe more rather than just going straight into the target's apartment." Just as Mr. Reese was trying to open the apartment door with the master key, a somewhat shy male voice came through his earpiece, but he didn't stop what he was doing.

"Our target is in grave danger." Mr. Risser possessed a captivating voice, as did his appearance. His tall stature and perfectly proportioned muscles made a suit his armor, and the word "gentleman" seemed tailor-made for him. His dark, short hair was tinged with gray, but this did not diminish his charm; in fact, he often gained an advantage by virtue of his appearance when he needed to complete certain negotiation tasks.

"There are many unidentified people monitoring his residence." Mr. Risser, while working with his head down, didn't forget to communicate with his partner. "I recognize these people; they are all agents. They are extremely vigilant, and everyone who enters or leaves this building is being monitored. The target should know this, so he never draws the curtains, and he basically doesn't go anywhere except the supermarket."

"You don't understand me, Mr. Reese. Salomon Damonette, a British citizen, a senior at Eton College, about to take his A-Level exams. No criminal record, no dental records, no medical records—except for his newborn period—he doesn't even have social media, and his Social Security account was only issued a few years ago. He seems to have dual British and American citizenship; the only information about him is from the European Union Young Scientists Competition. Oh, I found his birth information; he was born in New York, his mother died, and his newborn vaccinations were given in a New York hospital, but his registered nationality is British—I suppose I don't need to remind you about Eton's tuition fees?"

"It seems his adoptive parents treat him well."

"That's the biggest problem: he doesn't have a guardian. The time difference between London and New York is only five hours, and the flight from London to New York takes eight hours. Apart from recently taking a day off, he has basically completed all his class hours, which means..."

"That means there might be two Salomon Damonettes, identity theft. We've encountered this before, but it was a minor, Finch." Mr. Reese opened the apartment door and saw a fat, gray shorthair cat sitting on the entryway rug. "The Salomon Damonette in New York is also living with two beautiful women." Mr. Reese and the fat cat exchanged glances. "And he also has a cat with strange markings."

"You'd better hurry, Mr. Rither. I saw a stranger enter the apartment building, and he's about to go upstairs. I think he might be connected to Salomon Damonette. This man is too clean; I'm not sure if he's problematic, Mr. Rither. There are too many mysteries surrounding him."

"Meow~" The gray, chubby cat yawned in dissatisfaction and walked away from the carpet.

"I'll be there as soon as possible, Finch." Mr. Reese followed the cat inside. He stepped onto the carpet, and immediately his companion heard a dull thud.

"Are you alright, Mr. Risser?"

"I'm fine... I finally know why this person was being monitored, Finch..." Mr. Rither said breathlessly, "This person... is a wizard."

"What are you talking about?"

"He has a flying carpet [Note 1], Finch... Phew, don't worry, I can get out of here. Maybe he doesn't even need our help..." Mr. Reese used his arms to resist the shrinking carpet.

"Uh... there must be a reason why the machine gave him his number." The man on the other end of the earpiece stammered.

"I bet you didn't consider wizards when you created that machine... No need to be surprised, aliens and portals are both in New York... Phew..."

"How are you?"

"I'm fine, Finch... phew..."

Agent Grant Ward went upstairs, carrying a metal briefcase. Inside were documents his superior, Agent Coulson, had instructed him to deliver to the target. But Grant Ward had serious doubts about this seemingly simple task—why did everything around him feel so familiar, so eerily familiar? Why did he taste black tea in his mouth? This hallway, this corner, this camera location, this fat gray cat, and this carpet…wait, who is this?

"Hey! Hands up! Who are you? What are you doing here! Drop your weapons, I'm repeating it again, drop your weapons!" Agent Grant Ward pulled out his pistol and pointed it at Mr. Reese, who had just crawled out by cutting open the carpet with a knife. Agent Ward shouted a warning at the panting man.

"Finch, I'm in trouble," Mr. Reese whispered. He turned around, threw the knife on the ground, and then slowly drew his pistol from his waist and placed it on the ground. He raised his hands to Agent Ward.

"Go in, then put your hands behind your back and lie face down." To avoid attracting the attention of unauthorized personnel, Agent Ward chose to let the man into the apartment. Mr. Reese complied. This wasn't the first time he'd encountered a crisis; he'd worked for the CIA in the past and had experienced far more dangerous situations.

He survived, without exception.

Agent Ward pointed his gun at Mr. Reese, put down his briefcase, and pulled out handcuffs from behind his back. Just as he was about to handcuff the suspect, an unseen force bit his ankle, throwing him to the ground. Caught off guard, Agent Ward stumbled, his head hitting the ground hard. He saw a large, distorting black shadow and flashes of light, dizziness overwhelmed him, and the gun he had been gripping slipped from his hand. Mr. Reese seized the opportunity, leaping to his feet and lunging at Agent Ward.

He needs to subdue this person who came looking for his target; he's sure to get clues from him.

Just then, an unseen force grabbed his collar, suspending him in mid-air. Before Mr. Rither could even try to break free, the force slammed him against the wall. After the initial dizziness, Agent Ward, lying on the ground, immediately stood up to retaliate, but he was once again knocked down by the force.

The Cheshire Cat watched the two bipeds repeatedly get up, fall down, get up again, and fall down again. Bored, it yawned and rested its multi-layered chin on its paws. How boring! These two male bipeds—there aren't any female bipeds around—why are they fighting?

"Are you serious? I just went to Mexico to buy some green chili sauce, and two people tried to break into my place?" Salomon grabbed the two men who had fallen in the entryway; they had been badly shoved by the arcane mage's magic. It was the fifth-circle spell "The Mage's Loyal Hound," but Salomon had modified it. The Phantom Hound, which should have barked, wouldn't bark, and Salomon had also increased the Phantom Hound's defensive instincts—because dogs weren't allowed in this building, and if anyone heard the barking, he'd be in big trouble.

The android took over Salomon's work. She placed the two men in chairs, confiscated all their weapons, and checked their communication devices and identification. Salomon also took a chair and sat opposite them, holding two miniature earpieces.

He recognized Agent Ward, but Agent Ward didn't recognize him, because the enchantment spell was still in effect. "Who are you? Oh, Agent Grand Ward, member of Coulson's team, I know you. And you, handsome sir? Who are you? And what are you doing here?"

"You're in danger, Salomon Damonette." Despite being dizzy from the fall, Mr. Rither still warned Salomon, "I don't know what's threatening your life, but you are indeed in danger!"

Taking a break! Please vote for me!
