Chapter 300 Revelation from Fate

Chapter 300: A Revelation from Fate (First Update!)

Salomon knocked on the door and then walked into the office as if no one else was there.

The entire security staff of the mental hospital failed to notice a single living person passing by and taking their access cards—levitation, invisibility, and moving objects are all basic abilities of spellcasters. Veil of Concealment, a form of psychological suggestion, is one of Salomon's most frequently used spells. A mere second-circle enchantment spell can divert others' attention, making them unable to notice the caster; its effect is similar to third-circle invisibility, making it a highly cost-effective spell. [From The War of the Long Spears]

After efficiently resolving another matter, the arcane mage opened a portal near the St. Teresa's Asylum and cast a spell to enter. Anna and Damon were arguing at the time, and neither noticed Salomon appearing at the office door. The only one who might have noticed him, Dr. Hastings, was distracted by the thermometer. If he hadn't knocked after enjoying the spectacle, they probably wouldn't have noticed his presence until the spell's effect wore off.

"I solemnly ask you a question, Damon Helstrom. Do you truly intend to defy Kamar-Taj's authority in the Material Plane?" Salomon, head bowed, slowly walked towards Damon, adjusting the cuffs of his shroud robes as he went. "All offspring of extradimensional beings must sign this covenant. Do you wish to be an exception?"

"I set conditions, but you failed to meet them." Damon's chest heaved as he took a deep breath. A throbbing pain began in his temples; he felt as if something was about to burst out of his skull. The pain was driving him mad; weakness and dizziness left him utterly powerless, a feeling of utter exhaustion. He forced himself to stay awake, his face pale, and, leaning on the desk, questioned the arcane mage, "If you didn't meet the conditions, why did you expect me to?"

"I did what I was supposed to do." Salomon looked up at Anna, who was still sitting on the sofa. Anna stared blankly at the wizard, the anger she felt during her argument with her brother seemingly dissipating the moment Salomon arrived. The wizard said to her, "You probably wouldn't agree to send him to hell right now, so I've decided to try a different approach. I hope you won't interfere, Ms. Helstrom; I don't want to ruin our friendship."

"I'll try." Anna nodded coldly, swallowing back the words she wanted to say. But her muscles remained tense, ready to jump off the sofa at any moment.

"Very good." The words had barely left his lips when, with a short incantation, four missiles, gleaming with blinding white light, shot from Salomon's fingertips. These missiles, capable of exploding with dazzling light, accurately struck Damon, who was standing inches away, like four consecutive heavy punches to his chest, forcing all the air out of his lungs. The throbbing pain in his ribs made it almost impossible for him to breathe, and the blinding light caused the various colored spots in his vision to flicker chaotically. [Light Bullet Spell, Spear Warfare]

A mixture of oxygen deprivation and nausea coursed through his body, his brain and stomach entering a cyclical physiological process. Damon felt nauseous, but lacked the strength to support his body; he could only slump helplessly onto the soft chair, unable to utter even a groan.

"You can't do this! I'll call the police..."

Sister Gabriel Rossetti, like an enraged lioness, stood between Salomon and Damon. Dr. Hastings bent down and took a pistol from a drawer. However, before she could aim the gun at the sorcerer, the next spell struck. Dr. Hastings saw a burst of smoke and sparks erupt from Salomon's palm, darting around her, the sister, and Damon like annoying mosquitoes.

Then, seemingly having nowhere else to run, the spark exploded in a fit of despair, bursting into a large, glowing, smoking swarm of sparks. The loud explosion and dazzling sparks filled the entire office, and a small, giant dragon made of fireworks abruptly filled the remaining space. The firework dragon vividly extended its snout, sniffed Dr. Hastings, and then took a bite.

The flashing, scorching fireworks blinded Dr. Hastings to her surroundings. She gripped her pistol firmly, trying to step out from behind her desk and fire at the sorcerer. However, two blazing fire darts knocked her weapon away and burned her hands. When Dr. Hastings emerged, covered in smoke, from the tearing dragon fireworks, she saw the nun frantically patting the flames on the desk and chair. A flaming shuriken was embedded in the desk, and even as flames threatened to engulf Damon, he remained slumped in his chair, pale and groaning faintly.

"I've always wanted to use this magic." The sorcerer smiled and winked. "Not long ago, I suggested to someone that we watch fireworks, but they refused. So I'm very happy to be able to use it now. Don't be like that, Dr. Hastings."

Salomon pointed a finger at Dr. Hastings, and three heavy iron rings suddenly appeared, binding her tightly. Dr. Hastings' shoulders, hands, and legs were all bound together. The sorcerer ignored Dr. Hastings' curses. Security personnel from St. Teresa's Asylum, hearing the commotion, tried to break in, but they all collapsed in front of the office—Salomon had simply let them have a good sleep.

"I think you can now persuade your brother to sign the contract, Anna," Salomon said, shaking his head. "I hope it works, otherwise I'll have to resort to a more brutal method."

"He will." Anna stood up, pushed the nun aside, and roughly dragged her brother off the chair. "He has to sign the contract."

"I'm glad you made a wise choice." The sorcerer narrowed his eyes and said meaningfully, a pleasing attitude that made the devil's daughter grit her teeth again.

"I'm not stupid," Anna said irritably.

"Very well, I don't want my partner to be an idiot, Satana."

Would you mind telling me where you went before?

Salomon said, "This isn't something that needs to be kept secret, I'm going—"

"—I sensed something that might affect my future, a result of learning divination magic." The arcane mage helped Anna pull Damon onto the sofa, then gestured for the nun to stop. He turned to Anna and said, "The results of peeking into fate are uncontrollable. When we arrived in Ohio, a fragment of the future was inserted into my mind. Luckily, we have Google now, otherwise I wouldn't even know where that place is."

"Where is that?"

"Ms. Shaw, please don't point your guns at our friends. Mr. Damonette, I think you should explain why you're here." When Mr. Risser saw the swirling orange-red sparks, his first reaction was a headache, while Harold Finch was calmer.

Is there anything more incredible than magic in this world? Even if someone told him the next day that Salomon would unleash a giant golden beam of light, he wouldn't be surprised at all.

"I don't think this has anything to do with you, Mr. Damonette."

"Are you kidding me? You know wizards?" Samun Shaw stared wide-eyed at his companion in disbelief. Mr. Rither sighed and quietly explained his relationship with Harold and Salomon.

"I only met him during a mission... although I don't think his life is in danger."

"Do you think I wanted to come?" Salomon stepped out of the portal, his face full of doubt as he surveyed the empty space. It was an industrial plant built of concrete, with massive, glaring lights and overhead wires. The arcane mage looked around, including at the woman he didn't recognize—she appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent; he remembered Harold calling her Ms. Shaw. Besides her, there was a woman kneeling on the ground and a nerdy engineering student in a blue T-shirt.

"I had to go through several teleportations to find this place," Salomon asked. "Can anyone tell me where this is?"

"This is a nuclear testing facility in Hanford, Mr. Damonette. There are no supernatural threats here."

"I think so too." The sorcerer glanced at the woman kneeling on the ground with a puzzled look. Everyone else was surprised by his appearance, but this woman was an exception; she seemed to be immersed in some kind of emotion and couldn't extricate herself.

"But that's not what fate has in store for me, Harold. I think there might be something here that's related to some kind of impending catastrophe."
