Chapter 313 Old Acquaintance
Chapter 313 An Old Acquaintance (Second Update)
"They're clearly foreigners, how did they know that this shop's tangerine peel duck is the best?" Master Wang was full of doubts. He was very puzzled about Salomon's source of information and the information itself, but this did not stop him and Salomon from walking faster and faster.
You can ask questions later; if the tangerine peel duck is gone, then it's really gone.
The deacons of the Hong Kong Temple often patronize that old shop, and Master Wang knows that it's not far from the delicious food being sold out.
"There's a Chinese guy among them!" the sorcerer muttered, speaking in Cantonese. The machine, seemingly trying to curry favor, sent him a photo of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. This team was an old acquaintance; it was Coulson's squad that placed the order at that shop, or rather, Agent Melinda May, who seemed to want her teammates to try some food from her hometown.
Mr. Finch's AI, which estimated the store's shipment volume, claimed it could manipulate order ordering and even create traffic jams to ensure Salomon could get enough food first. The sorcerer hesitated for a moment, then decided to forgo the technological conveniences. "No," he shook his head, "Don't even think about it. I won't let you interfere in my life, little one."
"Seriously, who are you talking to? There aren't any spirits around here..."
"It's a pleasure to see you, Salomon." Agent Coulson smiled broadly. Although they had just gone through a less-than-perfect mission, he was still happy to see an acquaintance after such a perilous experience. Apart from Grant Ward and Melinda May, the rest of their team had very limited memories of Salomon. The enchanting spells had only erased their memories of that visit to the apartment, and the spells would become less effective as they saw Salomon more often, until they finally remembered that experience.
"I think I've seen him before," Skye and Simmons whispered to each other, "but I just can't remember."
"Me too... He looks familiar." Simmons' eyes darted around. "He might be on the list."
"So what is his superpower?"
"I don't know either……"
Agent Melinda May glanced at them but didn't tell them Salomon's identity. That was classified information, not something Skye and Simmons, two low-ranking agents, could possibly know. In fact, even Agent Grant Ward didn't know Salomon's true identity; he only recounted the strange things he encountered after going to the apartment—things he thought were some kind of bizarre high-tech gadget.
"I didn't know you were here. I thought you were in New York." Coulson glanced at the young mage beside Salomon and subtly memorized his physical features.
"Is there anything I can help with?" Agent Coulson raised an eyebrow and asked. He knew nothing about the Hong Kong Temple; he only assumed Salomon was there to deal with a magical calamity—a question based entirely on his experience. Although he didn't recall much about Salem, Coulson couldn't help feeling uneasy when Salomon appeared in cities other than London and New York, until Salomon offered a different answer.
"I'm here to eat, Agent Coulson," Salomon said somewhat helplessly. He just hoped Agent Coulson wouldn't be so bored as to question why he was in Hong Kong. Suddenly, he regretted not taking the machine's suggestion; at least that way he wouldn't have run into Agent Coulson and avoided a small trouble. "You've recovered very well," the arcane mage changed the subject. "Any aftereffects?"
"No, I don't know what materials the doctors used to repair my heart, but overall, my heart is stronger than before." Coulson laughed. "If you don't mind, join us for a meal. Agent May recommended this place; she said the decor is terrible, but it's the best restaurant in Hong Kong. The only one I've ever eaten at before was... how do you pronounce that thing again, Chenpi Duck?"
While the others went to order, Skye pulled up a plastic chair and sat down opposite Salomon. She was now very interested in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s watch list because, a few hours earlier, she had carried out a mission involving someone on that watch list—a special individual capable of unleashing fire. Based on her vague recollection of Salomon, she thought he might be on that list as well.
Skye had initially intended to lean closer to put pressure on Salomon, but after seeing the shopkeeper casually wipe the greasy table in a zigzag pattern with a rag, she abandoned the idea. "Have I seen you somewhere before?" she asked Salomon anxiously, glancing around nervously. Once she was sure Agent Melinda May wasn't paying attention to her, she lowered her voice and asked urgently.
The young mage glanced at Skye's Eurasian face, then at Salomon. He shook his head dismissively, making a sound of disgust. Similarly, Salomon looked at Skye with disdain, rolling his eyes and refusing to answer her question.
"Oh ho!" Skye was furious at the arcane mage's attitude. "Sorry, this isn't a bar pickup. You look too... okay, you have a good figure, but you're too young. You're under the legal drinking age. I'm not interested in you, I'm just doing an investigation! Yes, this is an investigation by S.H.I.E.L.D.!"
"Skye!" Simmons quickly tugged at Skye's sleeve, because Melinda May and Coulson had already ordered their food.
"Quiet down... How much do you know about the list? Tell me, and maybe I can help you get some less serious surveillance..."
Salomon and the young mage rolled their eyes, ignoring Skye's ramblings. She was about to say something more when Agent Coulson caught her red-handed. "This is contact with a special target," Agent Coulson said, dragging a chair away from Salomon's table. "You can't speak without permission."
Skye showed no sign of panic; she merely curled her lip, expressing disdain for Agent Coulson's strictness. Agent Melinda May glared at Skye, and this time she shrank back like a frightened mouse, obediently sitting with Fitz, Simmons's science team, and Agent Grant Ward under Agent May's sharp gaze.
She was teaching three other people how to use chopsticks.
"Would you mind telling me what you've been up to lately, Salomon?" Agent Coulson maintained his friendly smile, and just as he was about to place his hand on the table, Agent Melinda May grabbed his sleeve. "Alright," he continued, pulling out a tissue to wipe the table, "I know your schedule lately. Don't worry, I just wanted to know if there's anything we can do to help. Our previous collaboration... it should have gone quite well, right? Agent Ward told me you agreed to my proposal."
"You haven't encountered any magical events. If you had, I would definitely show up. But that's not because I agreed with your suggestion, but because it's our job."
"I don't mind offering to help..."
"You and Nick Fury already hate each other..."
In the brief pause between conversations, Salomon noticed Skye frequently turning to look at him, and he also glanced down at his constantly vibrating phone.
She's hacking into your mobile network.
The hacking attempt has been prevented.
It is performing a reverse intrusion into the target hard drive.
The intrusion was successful.
Salomon snapped his fingers, and Skye's laptop burst out with acrid smoke and sparks.
