Chapter 339 Phoenix's Notebook
Chapter 339 Phoenix's Notebook (Second Update)
Thor, amidst the thousands of lights soaring into the sky, drank his mead with tears streaming down his face. Jane Foster stood beside him, sipping hers slowly. Sif and the Warriors Three drank their ale in large gulps, sobbing loudly as she drank, coughing occasionally from choking. She believed it was her fault, that it was her negligence that had led to Frigga's death at the hands of the dark elves.
Although the Allfather had tried to persuade her, the stubborn warrior only outwardly obeyed. In reality, like Thor, she longed to rush out and fight the Dark Elves immediately. But she was not without reason; she knew she should stay for the funeral and await the Allfather's arrangements.
All Asgardians came to attend the funeral of Queen Frigga. To them, the Allfather meant war, death, and cruel winters, while the Queen represented a ray of sunshine in those harsh winters. Almost all Asgardians wept uncontrollably—the Aesir gods lived far longer than ordinary people, and Queen Frigga had ruled over generations of Asgardians; from birth, she had been their mother.
Their studies, lives, and work are all inseparable from the administrative system established by the Queen of Asgard. Not long after the death of the original Asgardians, coupled with the Queen of Asgard's approachable personality, it is no exaggeration to say that she is another sun of Asgard.
The Allfather watched as the small boat carrying Frigg's remains sailed further and further away, disappearing into the vast universe amidst the firelight. Thousands upon thousands of points of light rose from the boat, shimmering like distant stars. Salomon quietly opened his eyes, a faint blue light emanating from his pupils. Only after seeing the scene on the boat did he press down on the Eye of Agamotto and let out a discreet sigh of relief.
He had initially thought that Queen Frigga had broken the Sorcerer Supreme's spell and was deliberately seeking death. Now it seemed that the Sorcerer Supreme had probably already arranged a place for her to stay. The only place Salomon could think of was his little cabin in Finland. It was a beautiful place, undisturbed by many outsiders, with a fireplace, a smokehouse, and plenty of chanterelle mushrooms to pick in the nearby forest.
It seems the Sorcerer Supreme really intends to have Queen Frigga change the diapers of the Alzheimer's Father of the Gods.
He raised his glass perfunctorily to the Asgardian commoners around him and took a sip of ale. It seemed that Queen Frigga would prefer the Allfather to eat more vegetables, as Asgardian men tend to gain weight easily after a lack of exercise.
But there's still one question. If Queen Frigga is still alive, where did the Aether go? Heimdall didn't reveal this information to Salomon; he only said it would be announced at the meeting after the funeral. Salomon would also represent Kamar-Taj as an ally at the meeting about Asgard's defense and the Infinity Stones.
Now that the throne has been destroyed, the Allfather can only stand on the golden steps, looking down upon his subjects.
"Father!" Thor clenched his fist, "Let me go! I will kill Malekith and avenge Mother!"
The Allfather didn't even glance at his foolish son; instead, he turned his gaze to Salomon, who stood silently to the side. "Salomon Damonnet," the great god spoke, "what is Kamar-Taj's opinion? You heard it yourself: the best place for the Dark Elves to release the Aether will be Midgard. That's your territory; you have the right to decide."
“Great God,” Salomon stepped forward, bowing his head as he spoke, “I believe that Thor with a hundred Asgardian soldiers would be sufficient to withstand Malekith’s attack, and Kamar-Taj will also send a suitable number of arcane mages to participate in the battle.” He was careful with his words, because this incident was equivalent to a neighboring lord conquering a territory of a lord of equal rank, and this lord of equal rank referred to Kamar-Taj, as Kamar-Taj possessed autonomy over Midgard.
Now, with a neighboring ally and nominal lord coming to their aid, Salomon naturally needs to consider how to ensure this army returns home obediently after the battle, rather than lingering within his territory. Therefore, controlling the size of the supporting army is crucial—this has been common in the past; it's not unusual for supporting an army to result in gaining a large, unlawful territory, and fabricating a claim is easy and requires little effort. Nobles have a duty to defend their lands, and if Kamar-Taj doesn't intervene, Midgard will reclaim it from Asgard; therefore, Kamar-Taj must also participate in the war.
Given the current situation in Kamar-Taj, only the apprentices still training and learning are available to participate. Salomon is also unable to participate in the interdimensional battlefields of the dimensional gaps, yet he is naturally a member of this war as well. Salomon believes that the Sorcerer Supreme has already foreseen this, and the holy sword and armor must be ready. His armory in Kamar-Taj is his bedroom; before coming to Asgard, he could have all his weapons and armor oiled.
"Malikis will be fought by Thor and me, while the Heroic Warriors and other arcane mages can engage the Dark Elf soldiers," he said. "Given that we don't know if the Dark Elves still have Cursed Warriors... I suggest Asgard III, uh, the two warriors, and Lady Sif also join the battle. After all, their coordination with Thor is far better than mine."
He winked at Sif—if you want to wash your hands of this, now is your chance.
Sif understood Thor's meaning, and she stepped forward, pleading with the Allfather to allow her to fight alongside Thor. "It's my fault," she said, kneeling on one knee before the steps, her head bowed low. "I beg the Allfather to give me a chance to redeem myself."
The other two warriors, though a step behind, caught up quickly. "Wherever there is a battle, there I, Volstagg, will be there." The once robust but now obese Volstagg patted his axe, then knelt with difficulty on one knee, requesting to join the battle from the Allfather of Gods who stood before the throne.
Vandall was not to be outdone. He said, "It is our duty to avenge the diva."
The Father of the Gods agreed to the plan.
After the meeting ended, Thor disappeared without a trace. Unlike before when facing war, he didn't stay behind to discuss how to defeat the enemy with his good friends. Instead, he abandoned everyone and vanished alone into the winding corridors of Asgard. After thinking for a while, Sif pulled the other two warriors to the other side of Asgard—Thor needed to be alone for a while.
Salomon needed some time alone. The contents of his previously damaged dimensional bag had been collected by the Queen's maids and taken to his guest room at the back of Asgard. He could only hope that the maids hadn't thoroughly examined the contents of his dimensional bag—the scroll cases were intact, not a single scroll missing; aside from the broken potions, the maids had also cleaned and returned the intact glass bottles; some of the miscellaneous spellcasting materials were missing, probably disposed of as trash; the books—the books were all there, including some that might be embarrassing to be seen by others. He hoped the maids hadn't carelessly flipped through the colorful illustrations; those were his leisure reading materials.
Huff—he slowly stuffed the items into the new dimensional bag, while Phoenix stood on the table, idly pecking at the fruit. Then, the large, golden-red bird yawned, flapped its wings, and stirred up a warm breeze in the room. "Tired, Phoenix?" Salomon looked at the Demon Pillar, and Phoenix nodded wearily.
"I've spent too much energy writing poetry, My Loard," it said. "I don't need sleep, but revising the manuscripts is exhausting, and your pet cat is showing great interest in my tail feathers—Athena has promised to help me publish that book, and I'm doing the final polishing."
"And what's your pen name?"
Thirty-seven.
"That's certainly blunt," Salomon chuckled. "I still have no idea what you wrote."
"An epic tale of heroes, My Loard," Phoenix said proudly, raising its head high, its feathers swaying. "It is an epic of your great deeds, an ode to your wisdom and benevolence."
