Chapter 338 Lies (First Update)

Thanks to Dani's mother's warm hospitality, Saul agreed to summon the Rainbow Bridge on the cobblestone path in the garden, a place the avid fantasy enthusiast said would allow him to escape the neighborhood police and leave a trace of the Rainbow Bridge.

The sight of Salomon descending on the Rainbow Bridge had already caught the attention of the community police, or rather, the rural police. Even the oldest and most oblivious community service officers had now arrived at the children's secret hideout.

It seemed the town sheriff would be coming to question them soon. The adults in town all knew where those scoundrels usually hid; only they thought their secret was undiscovered. Anduin, Newton, and Dani all sighed with feigned maturity upon learning they were about to lose their secret hideout. But something even more disheartening happened—Salomon placed several parchment slips with brief terms written on them before them, and Dani's mother easily read the Latin inscription.

This impressed Salomon, because in England, only some private secondary schools offer Latin and Greek courses; public schools in small towns would never teach these subjects.

[The details of witnessing magic must absolutely not be revealed.]

[Absolutely no information about magic users may be revealed.]

These were the two most basic terms. The formal confidentiality agreement was much stricter and longer, and Salomon didn't have time to write it all, even with the automatic writing quill. Four contracts were laid out before them, along with four quills. Salomon promised that once the contracts were signed, the automatic writing quills he had personally crafted would belong to them, as a token of their gratitude for the hot tea and towels they had provided.

"What if I want to learn magic?" Dani asked boldly. "Can we go to Asgard together?"

"Young lady, that's far too greedy," the sorcerer said with a smile. "Asgard is currently under invasion, and we are unable to protect you. Moreover, only Thor has the authority to grant your request—" Thor shook his head; he was not foolish enough to agree to such a request from a few children under these circumstances. "—If you wish to learn magic, that is, to join my school, then you can only wait for fate to provide the answer. If you are suited to our school, our sect leader will naturally guide you onto that path."

"Listen carefully," the sorcerer's smile vanished, replaced by a frighteningly serious expression. "In any case, actively pursuing magic is an extremely difficult thing; it requires talent. I know you may think you are unique, but in the world of magic, recognizing your own talent is the most important thing. Pursuing what doesn't belong to you will only lead to destruction."

Phoenix chimed in agreement.

Salomon's words somewhat dispelled the children's unrealistic fantasies. The tea was finished, and it was time to say goodbye. Before the community service police arrived, Thor and Salomon got up and left. The arcane mage was optimistic about the situation in Asgard because the Sorcerer Supreme's spells hadn't triggered, meaning the Dark Elves' raid had achieved nothing.

He touched the magical artifact hidden beneath his occult robes, feeling slightly relieved. As long as the Dark Elves' target wasn't the Queen of the Goddess, Malekith's life-altering abilities wouldn't be necessary. Before leaving, Daenerys's mother gave Salomon, with Phoenix perched on his shoulder, a newspaper. The sorcerer gladly accepted; he was eager to learn about recent events on Earth—with the celestial conjunction approaching, strange things were bound to happen, and Daenerys's mother probably wanted him to see them.

After saying goodbye, Thor, carrying the corpse of the cursed warrior, called upon Heimdall. The Rainbow Bridge descended from the sky, scorching marks on the cobblestone path. Salomon and Thor vanished from the earth, leaving behind only three dejected children and an overjoyed woman.

For those who frequently use the Rainbow Bridge, this mode of transport is quite smooth. Salomon casually opened the newspaper, intending to kill time for a minute. It was a copy of the Daily Telegraph, but not the complete one; Dani's mother had circled a particular news item on the page.

"Deepest condolences on the passing of Salomon Damonnet, aged 17." The newspaper also included a photo of Salomon taken during his student days. When he saw the obituary, Salomon was walking out of the Rainbow Bridge. He almost turned back and jumped back in, but Heimdall's Rainbow Bridge was already closed, clearly having no intention of sending Salomon back.

"Come with me." His tone was heavy, sending a bad feeling through Thor and Salomon. Salomon quickly put away his newspaper, intending to investigate later. He nervously touched the artifact again—the Sorcerer Supreme's magic hadn't triggered, it should be…

"The great Queen Frigg has returned to her eternal rest, and no one can disturb her peace anymore," Heimdall said. "The Allfather is also wounded."

The news struck Thor like a hammer blow. He dropped the body, dizziness washing over him. He nearly collapsed; had Heimdall not caught him, he might have fallen onto the cold metal floor of Simijog. Salomon, upon hearing the news, also gaped in astonishment—

"That's impossible!" he and Thor exclaimed in unison.

"That's the truth," Heimdall said with a sorrowful expression. "Not long ago, we repelled the Dark Elves' attack... One of their ships rushed directly into the rear of Asgard to meet Malekith... Malekith has helpers..."

"Who!" Grief instantly turned into rage, and Thor screamed hoarsely, "Who is helping those vile creatures?!"

“We don’t know,” Heimdall said. “It could be some guy locked up in a dungeon… We don’t know, the scene was too chaotic. The Allfather shot down a Dark Elf’s ship, but was wounded in the process.”

Thor had no desire to listen any longer; he couldn't wait to return to his mother. He stepped out of Simeonjog, swung Mjolnir, and flew hastily through the still-smoke-filled sky towards Asgard. Only Heimdall and Salomon remained on the Rainbow Bridge. Heimdall invited Salomon to wait again, as he had arranged for a warhorse for Salomon to ride back to Asgard.

Or a goat. You can choose whatever you like.

"Is it true?" Salomon had calmed down by now. As he spoke, he placed one hand on his chest, seemingly trying to discern truth from falsehood using Kamar-Taj's most important artifact. "Are you telling the truth, Heimdall?" he asked. "Is Queen Frigga truly dead?"

At this moment, Heimdall remained silent, staring intently at the arcane mage.

"Even if the Queen dies, the Sorcerer Supreme's magic can rewind time, restoring her to her state before death." The sorcerer unbuttoned his occult robes, revealing the Eye of Agamotto on his chest—it was with the silver key. As a magical item already in sync with Salomon, Salomon could naturally know whether the spells on this magical item had been triggered.

The answer is no, and he doesn't believe that Malekith, who targets the Aether, could reverse life and death on Frigga and disrupt the Sorcerer Supreme's magic.

As the Sorcerer Supreme said, such a plan could not be hidden from Salomon.

"What exactly happened? What occurred in Asgard while Thor and I were away?"

"Don't you know?" Heimdall retorted. "Don't you already know perfectly well? That eye can see more than I can. You should know the significance of doing this. Lies or truth, we all need Thor. That's undeniable, and you know what to do."
