Chapter 356 Summoning Darkness
Chapter 356 Summoning Darkness (First Update)
Loki was the first to fly out, his figure in gold and green armor rising rapidly before the group of people surrounding the lawn, so fast they were almost invisible. But most of those present were not mortals; they all saw the helpless expression on Loki's face. He seemed completely unconcerned that he had been thrown out.
"Hello." The god of mischief, who had just crashed to the ground, jumped up abruptly. He dusted himself off and greeted the people gathered around him as if nothing had happened, but no one paid him any attention. Everyone stared intently at the spot where he had emerged; Darcy even threw a small pebble into it. "What's wrong?" She looked around and shrugged. "I just wanted to know if this was real... You know, Loki likes to play illusion tricks."
The reason was perfectly valid, and everyone accepted it. Salomon reminded her that she could quickly determine the truth by hitting Loki. Darcy humbly accepted the suggestion, and then Sif pulled the resistant Loki to her side, demanding that the God of Mischief wait with her. Darcy then punched Loki as well. Before Loki could say anything, Thor and Malekith emerged from the grass, kicking up a cloud of ash. The instant they jumped out, Jane Foster closed her eyes and frantically activated the jamming device, shutting down the natural portal. The mortals gathered around spat incessantly, trying to expel the ashes that had entered their mouths.
When Jane Foster and Darcy opened their eyes, they found that Thor and Malekith had already rolled into the ruins of the Greenwich University library. Sif and Salomon, dressed in armor, were already rushing towards them, while Loki was still strolling behind, looking unhurried.
The crimson-black fluid rapidly expanded and churned, covering the entire ruins with a thick layer of etheric particles. As Sif struggled to make her way towards Thor through the viscous, deep red ocean, Salomon activated his dragon-wing thrusters, hurtling over her like a meteor into the battlefield. Only when the holy sword severed Malekith's arm did the Dark Elf King realize that the enemy who had descended from the sky was none other than Salomon, whom he had previously abandoned in another realm.
"Hello, friend," the arcane mage greeted, then charged forward along with the bullets fired by the android, intending to deliver another powerful blow to Malekith. Thor also leaped toward Malekith at the opportune moment, raising his hammer and letting out a deafening battle roar. His entire body was covered in bright lightning, and at that moment he finally possessed the fighting power befitting a god.
However, the Dark Elf King had no intention of continuing the fight. Although these annoying creatures hadn't caused him much trouble, the time for the celestial conjunction was fast approaching, and all the natural portals to all kingdoms had appeared over London. He had to complete the mission of the Dark Elf race as soon as possible.
An unparalleled power surged forth, and all the architectural ruins covered in ether particles became part of the crimson storm. Debris and even intact books were pulverized once more in the storm, and bullets carrying immense kinetic energy were derailed the moment they touched the fluid storm, becoming cells within the body of this raging crimson behemoth.
A bolt of lightning struck from the sky, shattering a part of the behemoth's body. Thor, carrying Sif and Salomon, leaped out of the storm of aether particles. Even the Asgardian bodies struggled to withstand such damage; Salomon's armor was covered in tiny, crimson spikes. Thor and Sif were now riddled with wounds, blood flowing continuously from the numerous small cuts covering their bodies. When they landed on the broken brick ground, the blood immediately formed small puddles on the ground.
Thor's bloodline was far stronger than Sif's. He abandoned Salomon, left the unconscious Sif in Jane Foster's care, and immediately returned to the battlefield. He saw Salomon standing before the howling crimson storm, shield in hand. Countless tiny, sharp crimson blades scraped against the shield, creating a piercing noise, but these sounds were drowned out by the deafening wind and could not be heard unless one was very close.
Above the storm, seven dark, oily streaks stretched towards the sky like tentacles. Thor, with his sharp eyes, spotted a Midgard fighter jet struck squarely by the black substance; a burst of sparks exploded in mid-air, and the wreckage was swept up by the storm. "Can you do that again?" he roared, trying to drown out the roar of the storm. "The one you did in New York!"
"No!" Salomon roared back, making it clear to Thor that he couldn't unleash the Holy Sword right now. It wasn't that the conditions for unlocking the Holy Sword couldn't be met, but rather that the Holy Sword was simply too powerful. Having survived two life-or-death battles, Salomon simply didn't have the strength to sustain the Holy Sword's power—the light cannon was indeed effective, but its consumption wasn't something everyone could afford. Moreover, Malekith was on the same plane as them; if Salomon made a mistake, the number of victims could very well be much higher. "Only things that aren't powerful enough!" Salomon shouted in the simplest and most direct way, something Thor could quickly understand, "Like what happened today!"
"Very well! Then aim carefully!" Thor squinted, raising Mjolnir high. Dark clouds rapidly gathered in the sky, a massive storm brewing over London. The leaden clouds spun rapidly, and Thor swung his hammer, unleashing a violent bolt of lightning. Immediately afterward, the missile caught in the aether storm was struck squarely, a massive burst of electricity and flames shattering the storm. At the center of the aether storm, Malekith, now unrecognizable, laughed maniacally. His pale face was contorted, his body reduced to crimson crystalline dust. But he seemed oblivious, liquid aether flowing around him like a living thing. Every second, Malekith, and all the souls and lives consumed by the aether in the past, were transforming into the primordial darkness of the universe. Salomon's silver key, tucked into his armor, trembled incessantly, as if it had found something interesting.
"What are you waiting for!" Thor roared angrily. The aether particles were about to envelop Malekith again, and the opportunity he had created for Salomon's attack was about to disappear. But the arcane mage calmly lowered his shield and holy sword, his helmet completely retracting into his breastplate and backplate, revealing his neck, which hadn't seen air all day.
"This is Earth, Thor. Asgard doesn't call the shots here. Those people are the Sorcerer Supreme's subjects, not yours." He glared at the Asgardian prince, then pulled the silver key from his armor by the thin rope around his neck. The moment the silver key was exposed, all the primordial dark matter reaching towards other worlds stopped. These colossal beings, as if brought to life, crawled out of the portal, withdrew from other realms, and then eagerly stretched their tentacles toward Salomon before the aetheric storm.
In an instant, all of London was shrouded in night, all sunlight was swallowed up, and all joy and happiness were obscured by the enormous, black, living thing. A chill descended upon London in the blink of an eye, and the Thames froze over in a few breaths. Salomon raised the silver key in his hand, reciting a blasphemous mantra spoken by Professor Randolph Carter, struggling to maintain his sanity and summoning the primordial darkness from other worlds that had favored him to descend upon him.
This is a risky move. Salomon must keep the visitors from other universes in check, or this expert in dealing with darkness will cause even greater casualties.
