Chapter 371 Just a Minor Trouble

Chapter 371 Just a Minor Trouble (Second Update)

Encouraged by a group of Texas rednecks, Salomon downed an entire glass of depth charge, leaving only foam in the mug. The sorcerer twirled the glass gleefully, showing off his achievement. He was allowed to drink here because he had earned respect—he had simply been wandering around when a few bastards had insulted his mother, so Salomon slammed their heads against the wall, and the rednecks, far from being frightened, cheered and applauded him.

When they realized Salomon wasn't swaying and collapsing to one side, the group booed and refocused their attention on their drinks. If this bar held a contest to see who could walk in a straight line while drunk, Salomon would win without a doubt, because he was a truly formidable drinker, better than most people on Earth. Even with the Vishanti's magical enhancements to their bodies, Salomon was still the biggest drinker in the Bar Without Doors.

Once the stigmata are removed, this amount of alcohol is practically negligible to him; it's just that he doesn't usually drink.

Salomon ignored Agent Coulson's call. He had already entrusted the key to solving the problem to Agent Coulson, and Salomon was confident that Agent Coulson could definitely handle it, after all, he was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with Level 7 clearance—if Agent Coulson hadn't only a high school education, with his abilities, he would have already climbed much higher within the S.H.I.E.L.D. system.

Laura Crawford didn't think so. She found her work at S.H.I.E.L.D. incredibly interesting, and if it weren't for this fast-paced international trip, she wouldn't even have known that Professor Randolph was an Asgardian. "You know Thor," she suddenly thought of a question, "If Professor Randolph really was a deserter, how would Asgard treat him?"

"If Asgard finds out about this, he'll have to return to Asgard to be punished unless he receives a pardon from the Allfather," Salomon said. "The people of Asgard are very martial; they despise deserters and those who break their oaths. Professor Randolph will only be punished in the dungeon when he gets back. Given the recent deaths of many prisoners in the dungeon, they might put him next to Loki, so Loki will have someone to talk to."

“Professor Randolph is a good man.” Laura seemed to have caught the information Salomon was conveying. She said, “When I was a child, Professor Randolph often visited the manor. He was always very polite, even when he was drunk… Well, I know now that he wasn’t drunk at all. But anyway, he didn’t do anything wrong; he just likes Earth.”

"Don't worry, I've already issued him a certificate on behalf of Kamar-Taj," Salomon said with a smile. "I can't go to the Allfather about this, but given the alliance between Asgard and Kamar-Taj, we can consider Professor Randolph an Asgardian envoy. As long as he doesn't leave behind any children or contaminate the human gene pool, everything is negotiable."

"You guys are really strict."

"We can't get through to Salomon Damonette." Simmons put down his phone and turned to Agent Grant Ward, who was being examined. "We haven't encountered any cases of physiological reactions in humans using the Berserker Cane. Perhaps we should try some other methods, some scientific methods, such as sedatives. That could lower your adrenaline levels and at least make you a little more comfortable."

Agent Grand Ward apprehended Professor Randolph at the Viking Ruins of El de Vinino in Seville, Spain. Unfortunately, Agent Ward accidentally came into contact with a section of a berserker's staff. The magic on the staff caused Agent Ward a severe adverse reaction—the berserker's staff got its name because it could ignite uncontrollable rage. All the dark corners hidden deep within your heart would be mercilessly dug out and exposed to the sun. Anyone who held the staff could smell the stench of that secret decay, as annoying as a moth hovering in front of them.

Fear and rage were the only gifts the Berserker's Staff bestowed upon its wielder, and only Professor Randolph was freed from the power of this fury. Professor Randolph paid no attention to those who found the first piece of the staff; in his eyes, they were just young people whose anger would eventually subside, who would eventually grow old and die, and who were not much trouble—even if those young people found him and took the other piece of the staff.

He didn't care at all about the young people's offense.

If Agent Coulson hadn't threatened him with Professor Randolph's secret identity, this Asgardian wouldn't have bothered continuing his search for the cane.

"Perhaps we can perform a minor operation on him and obtain some bodily fluids or something," Simmons said. "That way, we might be able to find a solution to Grand's problem. We should avoid using those rune stones if possible; I always felt they were unreliable."

But Agent Grand Ward was determined to solve the problem his own way, and punching the sandbag seemed like a good option. According to Professor Randolph, the dark, unbearable pain in his abdomen and the rage that felt like his heart was about to explode weren't too serious problems; they would gradually subside in a few decades.

"Decades? You mean the Berserker's Staff's effects last for decades?" Laura Crawford's eyes widened. "Don't take this lightly. I don't know what you mages are thinking, but decades is long enough for an ordinary human, Salomon. Can't you get involved in this?"

"A berserker's staff doesn't have the power to overturn the world, and the wielder still can't stop bullets." Salomon's expression remained calm; he didn't seem to realize he'd uttered anything earth-shattering. "I've seen it on TV. Those idiots just want to become gods. Ha, they're just street thugs... A simple fireball would be enough to take them out. Agent Coulson, be careful; a few more bullets will do the trick. I prefer the more economical approach."

"You want...you want to kill those people?" Laura lowered her voice, repeatedly confirming Salomon's meaning. "I admit those people are stupid, but they'll be arrested, and S.H.I.E.L.D. will enforce the law on them." The recent college graduate seemed to be saying something unacceptable. "This is civilized society!"

"My lady, the laws of secular governments cannot cover everyone," Salomon said pointedly. "In a vast ocean, the laws of secular society only cover a single reef, not even the entire island of humanity. There are many areas beyond this secular world, and not everything must adhere to the laws of human society—more often, the laws of Kamar-Taj should be followed, because we are the rulers of all supernatural forces on the Material Plane, and human society is merely a baby amusing itself in its cradle."

"That's really hurtful."

"If you were stranded on a desert island inhabited by cannibals, how would you cope?" the sorcerer posed the question. "Whether you fight back and kill, or show mercy to all intelligent beings, is your choice. But only the survivors can discuss good and evil; the dead cannot. The foundation of all good and evil is survival. Only by surviving can we discuss the question of civilization. You could read Sabo's famous novel, *The Mystery of the Speluncean Explorers*; perhaps it will be helpful to you."
