Chapter 473 The Mad Nun
Chapter 473 The Mad Nun (Second Update)
Damon Helstrom hadn't shaved in a long time, and his sweater had several holes in it.
For the time being, he and Gabby are dependent on Dr. Hastings for their livelihood, and he is frantically caring for the baby in Gabby's womb. In his eyes, the fetus sleeping in the womb is more important than anything else.
Therefore, when he saw his sister Anna Helstrom, his first reaction was not to welcome her. He refused all visitors, even his own sister. Not to mention Salomon, who even tried to shoot the arcane mage. Anna immediately subdued her brother, slamming Damon's head against the cold, moldy wall in an attempt to bring him to his senses.
"Do you think this is a suitable place for a pregnant woman, you idiot!" Anna roared in Damon's ear, furious at his lack of self-control. "Even a rat's nest has fresher air than this! You can't even afford the heating!" She pressed hard on her brother's head. "Gabby won't die without you, Damon. You're the one who dragged her into this situation, you're the one who got her pregnant! Stop making excuses, you coward!"
Damon let out a furious roar of resentment.
While the Helstrom siblings were still arguing, Salomon had already tiptoed across the uneven wooden floor and walked towards the little nun lying on the bed, huddled among a pile of blankets. Sister Gabby was a completely different person from when Salomon first saw her. Her vibrant rosy face had turned pale, the ends of her smooth, dark hair were streaked with gray, the cold had robbed her of her optimism, and her once bright and lively eyes had lost all positive emotion. Mold roamed around her pillow, and filthy skin flakes made their home in the folds of her skin, yet even in such appalling unsanitary conditions, her body still barely reached the standard of health.
She lived a life filled with remorse. "Forgive me, my Lord. I broke my vow."
She grasped the sleeve of the sorcerer's scutellaria robe with her thin hands, her fingers gripping the gold inlaid on the hem of the robe tightly.
Salomon didn't break free from the pregnant woman who had lost her mind; instead, he placed his other hand on her high, protruding belly. Gabby's fingers clenched even tighter, and in her blurred consciousness, she mistook the sorcerer's actions for God's condemnation of her sins; she believed that she had been banished from God's temple for committing a sin.
In reality, Salomon was simply casting a spell to check on Gabby's child. Pink magic contains a plethora of spells applied to fertility, and Salomon, who called himself a wizard, wasn't joking; he was proficient in this area as well.
Gabby was a devout woman who had lived in a monastery since childhood, so why would she suddenly break her vow and become pregnant with Damon's child? When Father Morru told Salomon the news, the sorcerer sensed something was amiss. The reason he waited until now was to allow the child to develop to a certain stage, making it easier to investigate with magic.
He believed that the fetus's unique characteristics might answer this question. The skin, stretched taut to its limit, revealed bluish-black veins; the internal organs were compressed and displaced; the fat had been completely consumed; the sorcerer's fingertips felt the pulse of life.
A fire lit up the dimly lit room as Anna used magic to suppress her brother, who was charging at Salomon like a mad bull.
When Gabby saw Damon's appearance, he screamed in panic.
"I'm possessed by a demon!" she cried, her voice trembling with sobs. "Forgive me!"
"She's gone mad." Anna's expression was indescribably complicated. How she wished her brother could have a happy family to make up for her terrible childhood. But the current situation showed that her brother, Damon Helstrom, was not suited to have a family; people like them with the blood of the devil could not have a happy life.
“I think she might be telling the truth; it’s the only thing she remembers.” Salomon gently placed his hand on Gabby’s forehead. The little sister drifted off to sleep, but she still clutched Salomon’s sleeve tightly, as if it were her only salvation. “Gabby’s mind can’t withstand Marduk’s possession,” Salomon said gravely. “Your brother and Gabby may have been influenced by Marduk. Marduk may have possessed Gabby and intentionally conceived Damon’s child.”
"You mean my devilish father and my brother..."
"It sounds unbelievable. But for a devil, there's nothing he won't do to achieve his goal," Salomon sneered. Marduk's actions would indeed shock a sorcerer, but for a devil with such a bottomless moral compass, mating with his son wasn't too outrageous.
Salomon began chanting a spell, and all the spiders in the apartment panicked and ran out.
Marduk possessed four forms: spider, cat, human, and frog. To prevent Marduk from overhearing the following conversation, Salomon went so far as to cast spells to drive away everything. "We have to take her away," Salomon said softly after a while, amidst the musty smell. "Gaby and her child need close monitoring; this is no longer a simple routine visit."
"And what about him?" Anna asked, pointing to Damon, who was sprawled on the floor, writhing like a maggot. "His mental state..."
"The only place he can go is Kamar-Taj," Salomon said. "I went there once when I was a kid. Compared to the monsters locked up there, Damon's condition is relatively mild. As long as his body hasn't undergone irreversible mutations, there's still hope for him. I can't save his mental state here; he has to go to Kamar-Taj. I'll prepare a sunny cell for him."
"You're going to take him there yourself? What about Gabby?"
"I still have manpower." Salomon took out his phone and dialed a number. A moment later, hurried and heavy footsteps rushed from below the hotel into the corridor where the room was located. Then, after a polite knock, members of the Sorority, dressed in power armor and carrying explosive guns and chainsaw swords, carried in a first-aid gurney.
Faced with a narrow doorway that wouldn't fit the emergency bed, the androids opted to dismantle it manually.
"Master!"
"Take this pregnant woman back to the Immortal City." Salomon pulled his sleeve, which Gaby had been gripping tightly, away. "Proceed with surveillance and detention according to procedure. Special surveillance level A, equip her with the amulet. Notify me immediately of any abnormalities, and grant authorization to kill her if things get out of control."
"Yes, Master!" The android leader hung the explosive pistol back on his belt, then gently picked up the sleeping Gaby and placed him on the emergency bed. Seeing Gaby being taken away, Damon struggled even more fiercely, and even Anna could hardly restrain him. Suddenly, sparks flew from Damon's eyes, and almost invisible flames ignited from the corners of his eyes.
Before Anna could decide what to do, Salomon punched Damon hard in the chin, physically knocking him unconscious. "At least that'll keep him quiet for a day," Salomon said, "maybe half a day. The demon blood enhanced his physique, and I didn't go too far."
"Please let him live, okay?" Anna pleaded.
“I can’t guarantee it, Anna,” Salomon sighed, “but I believe the child in Gabby’s belly will be useful to Marduk. I will keep a close watch on Gabby and the unborn child, and I will let you know as soon as I have any news.”
"Thank you." Anna hugged her brother. She closed her eyes, savoring the dirty, smelly atmosphere of the house for a moment.
