Chapter 497 I am the Nine-Headed Hydra
Chapter 497 I am the Hydra (Part 9)
Dozens of messages were processed simultaneously—videos, images, or brief text messages. Behind all the seemingly chaotic and disordered appearances lay a common pattern: behind every mission, there was a single person guiding it all. He summarized, compiled, and applied intelligence obtained from one mission to another. While suppressing the rebellion through raids, airdrops, and explosions, he also negotiated and communicated with S.H.I.E.L.D. loyalists like Robert Gonzalez and Victoria Hand, and spoke with Gideon Malick's agents planted in Congress.
He mobilized all available resources, constantly opening portals to transport people to other locations, thus regrouping the fragmented overseas forces of S.H.I.E.L.D. While Salomon was incredibly busy, Dinah kept a close eye on the situation at the Tri-Wing headquarters. Salomon simply couldn't replicate the satellite positioning modules used by the three Sky Carriers in such a short time, so from the moment he received the mission objective, he immediately began checking the code to ensure that this newly activated AI wouldn't malfunction.
Salomon controls the server for this AI, while its competitors are eager to strangle the Samaritan. These two AI systems, with completely different underlying logics, are sworn enemies. This is exactly the situation Salomon wants; even cutthroat competition is better than shirking work and deceiving superiors.
Meanwhile, he was still arguing with Robert Gonzalez, glancing out of the corner of his eye at the S.H.I.E.L.D. executives gathered in the office via video. Tita, along with Agent Victoria Hand, had quelled the mutiny on the carrier, after which the arcane mage began a video conference with the carrier's commander. Salomon told him to prepare to command S.H.I.E.L.D.'s armed forces in an attack on the Triangular Wing headquarters.
Of course, most loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agents didn't trust him; they trusted no one, and they certainly didn't trust Agent Victoria Hand, who had arrived with the Sorority. However, Agent Victoria Hand and Agent Coulson could jointly vouch for him, and Nick Fury provided certification. With Salomon's consent, these senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agents finally learned Salomon's identity and his role in the Battle of New York. With the assurances of the two senior agents, and the threat of the chainsaw sword and the explosive gun hanging over his head, Robert Gonzalez reluctantly agreed to the plan.
"Very well, I don't have time for debate. Let's get moving." He turned back to the code, completely ignoring Robert Gonzalez's emotional turmoil. The arcane mage in work mode was utterly ruthless. In his eyes, those loyal agents were merely tools, even though he knew they would pay with their lives for their choices. But the order was perfectly fair to S.H.I.E.L.D., the main party in the deal. They could protect headquarters' secret data and loyalists, as well as many Quinjets that couldn't be rebuilt after S.H.I.E.L.D.'s collapse.
Alexander Pierce had prepared a speech for all the board members, and when they arrived at the meeting room, he poured champagne for everyone. This was the most important day, a day to celebrate. From this day forward, his faction would recreate the glory days of Hydra. "I know this process hasn't been smooth sailing," he thought to himself, mocking the politicians' foolishness. "Some of you wanted to kick me out halfway. But in the end, we all reached our destination, and the whole world will be grateful."
Pierce raised his glass in acknowledgment. As the board members drank their champagne, a voice, all too familiar, rang out from the internal communications system at Trisolaris headquarters. That voice made Alexander Pierce's skin tighten.
"Attention all S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, this is Steve Rogers..."
The board members all wore expressions of panic.
With Agent Maria Hill's help, Steve Rogers successfully reached the satellite command center, while technicians watched from the other side. They had expected resistance when they stormed in, but to their surprise, the agents didn't believe S.H.I.E.L.D.'s warrant for Steve Rogers' arrest; some even enthusiastically gave them directions.
However, all the agents retreated in panic under Agent Hill's indifferent expression.
"You've heard a lot about me these past few days. Some of you have even been ordered to hunt me down, but I think it's time for you to know the truth." Steve Rogers paused, seemingly wanting to give his audience time to process this. He continued, "S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't what we think it is; it's been infiltrated and taken over by Hydra. Their leader is Alexander Pierce, and the Special Forces and the Insight Team are also Hydra members. I don't know who else, but I know they're in this building..."
The technicians listened in stunned silence.
While the board members were engrossed in the broadcast, Alexander Pierce put down his champagne and picked up his phone to issue an order.
"...They are very likely on your side, and they will soon have the absolute control they desire. They killed Nick Fury, but it won't end there! If you send the carriers into the sky today, Hydra will have the ability to kill anyone who opposes them, unless we stop them..."
Steve Rogers' voice also rang out on Salomon's computer monitoring program.
Salomon had already ordered two AIs to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal network, reviewing footage from all surveillance coverage areas. His hands didn't stop moving; before him were branches of the planetary defense system, used for large-scale control of the opening and closing of portals. Meanwhile, Stephanie was also busy running around him. She had to carry out Salomon's series of orders, such as directing traffic control in Washington, D.C., suppressing riots in the slums, and buying time for the Immortal City's armored forces to enter the city.
All unimportant matters can wait until after the war.
"...I know it's difficult, but the price of freedom has always been high. I'm willing to pay that price. It doesn't matter if I'm the only one, but I bet I won't fight this battle alone."
The fighting has begun within S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Robert Gonzalez, launch." Salomon gave the order, and several Quinjet fighters on the deck of the S.H.I.E.L.D. carrier, far overseas, immediately took off. They carried armed personnel of the Loyal Agents, following the black-painted Sorority assault transport ships through the portal, crashing headlong into sunlit Washington from the dark sea. He ordered the AI to use cameras to guide the Loyal Agents, and then he ordered Tita to meet the tank force on the opposite bank of the river at the Tri-Wing headquarters.
"You must get the Sky Carriers up. You need to buy me time to write the commands." He shut down the communication channel with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and addressed all the commanders of the Sorority Combat Team. "Those three Sky Carriers will be your future Earth motherships. We're going to modify them. But for now, we're protecting them from Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. They're already the property of the Immortal City."
