Chapter 498 I am the Nine-Headed Hydra
Chapter 498 I am the Hydra (Part 10)
Outside the Tri-Wings headquarters on the Potomac River, three hatches, each the size of ten football fields combined, rose and slowly opened after draining most of the river water. The noise of the hatches colliding could be heard even by Salomon on the opposite bank. He watched as the river water fell into the hangar like raindrops. The three Nimitz-class air carriers, equipped with Stark's anti-gravity engines, unleashed astonishing heat from these massive engines that spewed blue-white light, instantly evaporating the falling water.
For a moment, the Potomac River was shrouded in a white mist of steam. But the steam was quickly evaporated by the heat from the rising aircraft carrier.
All of these air carriers are powered by Stark's Arc Reactor, and only that revolutionary energy source could power such engines. Previous air carriers, which used propellers for takeoff, employed nuclear reactors, resulting in slower speeds and takeoff times compared to these three carriers.
"They're initiating the launch procedure," Agent Maria Hill reported to Steve Rogers and Sam via a separate communications system. She had to remain in the satellite control room to provide intelligence support to the frontline personnel, so she remained calm throughout. Although Hydra hadn't yet located her, she kept her pistol, safety off, on her lap, ready to draw and fire at any moment.
Salomon watched as Falcon activated his jetpack and took to the sky. Captain America leaped from the edge of the open hatch, landing on the deck of a rising air carrier and engaging in combat with Hydra agents in S.H.I.E.L.D. uniforms. As another air carrier ascended, its anti-aircraft guns immediately went into action, but Falcon's luck and maneuverability were simply too good; he was hit by the anti-aircraft guns but remained unscathed.
The sorcerer opened one eye, ending the spell of long-distance spying.
He can begin to take action.
With the order given, Robert Gonzalez led his loyalist special forces team into the Tri-Wing headquarters. The entire headquarters was now engulfed in gunfight; no one expected their immediate comrades to suddenly draw their weapons and shoot at them. Distrust permeated the air, and even Robert Gonzalez's squad was subjected to this distrustful firing.
Salomon ignored the events at Trisolaris headquarters. Robert Gonzalez could only provide support to S.H.I.E.L.D. after the rebellion was quelled. He rejected Commander Gonzalez's request to support S.H.I.E.L.D., having no intention of sending anyone there. Even as the loyalist S.H.I.E.L.D. agents left the carrier, Salomon had already dispatched Wakandans to take over the carrier and its aircraft.
Robert Gonzalez was the first to attack the tarmac.
Now that all Hydra aircraft have taken to the skies, only S.H.I.E.L.D. pilots remain. While ownership of Tribulation Wing headquarters is important, stopping Project Insight is even more crucial. Robert Gonzalez intends to provide air support for Steve Rogers on his mission, a plan Salomon has neither confirmed nor denied.
He heard the sound of tracks grinding against the ground and the rumble of tank engines behind him, and the engines of several assault transport ships roared overhead. He saw the assault transport ships swerve to avoid anti-aircraft fire, and androids clad in power armor and steel wings rained down on the three air carriers.
These people, cratered, bloodied, and bearing the marks of explosions, drew everyone's attention. Neither Hydra nor Steve Rogers knew where they came from. The Sorority charged straight toward the bridge through Hydra's special forces gunfire. Unlike Steve Rogers, the androids showed no mercy; any special forces member hit directly by a bullet was torn in two. Facing the Quinjet fighters pursuing them, two androids activated their steel wings and lunged at the cockpit, piercing the cockpit glass with their chainsaw swords and shredding the pilot into pieces.
This ferocious fighting style alerted everyone. After failing to contact them via the common communications channel, Maria Hill reported the androids' situation to Sam and Rogers. Captain Rogers had no time to waste; he had to seize control of the Sky Carrier before it reached 3,000 feet. If the Insight satellite established communication with the carrier, Operation Insight would begin immediately.
Steelwing carried Tita's combat squadron from one aircraft carrier's deck to the deck of another. A Quinjet circled the Skycarrier's superstructure, pursuing Falcons on deck. The unfortunate fellow skimmed the deck at high speed, attempting to seek cover beneath the wings of the Quinjets lined up on deck, but the explosion of a Quinjet with its ammunition box blown off balance and hurled him off the deck.
Dita drew the longsword forged by Salomon and activated the force field technology analyzed by Stark and improved by Wakanda. She wielded the longsword, which crackled with blue electricity, cutting into the aircraft's armor plate as easily as cutting into cheese, slicing open the belly of the Quinjet like she was slicing open a fish.
The Quinjet crashed into the river amidst flames and thick smoke.
Just as a Quinjet from the Skycarrier took off, a fierce barrage of artillery fire erupted from the woods across the Potomac River. Thanks to precise fire control, the shell struck the Quinjet precisely, without damaging the Skycarrier itself. Then came another precise barrage, blasting the anti-aircraft guns in the Sorority's path to fragments, sending explosions and black smoke billowing across the carrier's deck. "Hey, girls!" Sam greeted Tita, who wasn't wearing a helmet. "Where did you come from?"
"Sam, don't make contact with them," Maria Hill, who was in charge of the overall situation, warned Falcon. She had a rough idea of where the girls came from; Captain Rogers' report mentioned Salomon's artificial intelligence, but she hadn't expected Salomon to have created so many.
Tita gave Sam a cold look, then ran toward the bridge on her own. Salomon's orders to kill anyone who resisted, to force the propulsion, maintenance, and repair crews to obey, and to control not only the bridge but also all the combat, communications, and weapons crews were to be killed. They had no time for idle chatter.
"Eight minutes left, Captain." Unbeknownst to Maria Hill, her communication link with Steve Rogers was being monitored by Salomon. Steve Rogers then passed through the blast doors of the Helicarrier's command deck, leading to the main Helicarrier server of the Blade Server.
"Working on." Steve Rogers arrived at the server interface on the belly of the Sky Carrier. To ensure temperature cycling and optimize bandwidth, the Blade Server was installed in this open room, where a large amount of information was exchanged and transmitted. But when he arrived, he found a familiar face sitting in front of the Blade Server's hatch, the door containing the server chip wide open.
"What are you doing here, Salomon?"
"What are you talking about, Captain?" Maria Hill asked, puzzled.
Salomon waved without turning around. He released the external keyboard, and an interface-like device was installed on the Blade Server. The tablet in his hand connected, and lines of operation logs scrolled across the tablet's small screen. "Didn't I tell you I spent a semester studying computer technology?" He put away the external keyboard on the tablet. "I've already solved this ship. You're too late."
"You didn't follow orders..."
"I'm an outsider," Salomon said nonchalantly. "You can continue your work, but that won't change anything. I've replaced some files in the code. Although the names are the same, the content is completely different. I've also added several packages so I can inject modifications into the program..."
