Chapter 538 Gulfstream G550
Chapter 538 Gulfstream G550 (First Update)
He was only joking, of course; he couldn't possibly make any changes to Kamar-Taj now. He not only had to direct the Sisterhood and the biological laboratory to dispose of the corpse of the Sithon Familia, but also had to repair the [Permanent Multi-Layered Anti-Summoning Array] that Merlin had destroyed. If Merlin hadn't broken his spell, there would have been absolutely no way any summoned creatures would have appeared in his office.
"Damn Merlin!" Salomon cursed inwardly. He'd have to pay for the materials to set up the magic circle and the constant spell himself; when that half-nightmare left the N-Garai dimension, he took nothing but a wool coat and a plaid scarf. He believed the Venerable One would help him get compensation—though the Venerable One was keeping something from him, he didn't mind at all. He knew some knowledge was extremely dangerous; even knowing the names could lead to corruption. In fact, few people within Kamar-Taj used the names of the Dark Dimension Lords or the Great Shadow; they all used pseudonyms to refer to those dangerous magical entities.
It took two days just to perform the initial autopsy on the Sithon clan's corpse with Maya Hansen. He and Maya Hansen first measured the clan's blood oxygen levels, organ weights, and the proliferation of mutated organs, among other routine parameters. After obtaining the necessary data, the corpse was immersed in a 10% formaldehyde solution for prolonged and localized dissection.
And then there was that unfortunate Marcus Daniel. Although his connection to the Shadow Dimension made him impervious to the matter of the Material Plane, once the Shadow Creature possession ended, he became mortal again and needed to eat. But Salomon gave him nothing but water and tranquilizers. This was Maya Hansen's request, and Salomon complied.
"You look a little different," Salomon said, pointing to Maya Hansen's dark circles. She looked around with a tired but curious expression, like a child engrossed in a toy and unwilling to go to bed. The two experimental subjects Salomon had brought had freed her from the tedious experiments of gene sequencing and gene alchemy; Daniel and the corpse of this familiar were like relaxing toys to her.
“I’m busy, Salomon.” Maya tossed her short, shoulder-length hair, then picked up a custom-made chainsaw dagger from beside the dissection table with her gloved hand. The dagger was made specifically for her, to dissect the hard exoskeletons of certain creatures. “Your experiments are important, but also very tedious,” she said. “I’ve been working on this gene-alchemy experiment for months, 16 hours a day. And as you can see, we’re still missing some crucial elements.”
"I'll handle this, darling." Salomon's words made Maya Hansen smile. She loved the experimental environment here; not only were there experimental assistants, but Salomon would also find a way to solve any equipment or materials that could help the experiments, simply by asking. Salomon's super-soldier project was completely different from those conducted in other countries—he didn't use machines, drugs, or gamma rays, but instead opted for a complex plan involving comprehensive genetic and organ modification. From body shape and organ implantation to muscle growth and bone regeneration, everything needed to be redesigned. She and her team needed to design prototypes of some special organs, and she had already made some progress with the help of alchemy.
It's fair to say that everyone in the biolab is now focused on this project, including the druids. They help Salomon oversee and maintain the stability of genetic alchemy, concealing certain shady magical secrets. Unfortunately, not everyone in the Sora Redwood Druid Order is willing to submit, and a few troublemakers inadvertently witnessed the abyss of chaos and succumbed to madness. Salomon didn't interfere in this matter; the Order's High Priest made the decision himself.
He also took the time to buy a private jet, but not for his own use.
The Croft family was indeed wealthy, but it was all in real estate and stocks, so they couldn't receive dividends for the time being. Even if she did receive dividends, Laura would have to pay a large sum for the maintenance of the manor, and she herself would have to live in an old apartment, having experienced firsthand the damp, cold, and gloomy weather of London and the almost non-existent heating system in the old apartment.
His private jet was for Laura's expeditions. Considering Laura's pride, he wouldn't just give it away so openly. He drove Laura to London Hearst Airport and showed her the Gulfstream G550. "This is for your expeditions. I've already arranged the crew." He winked mischievously. "Don't damage it; I don't want this plane shot down in Syria. It's not a safe place there right now."
"I don't know how to thank you enough, Salomon," Laura said, somewhat flustered. "I had no idea you had prepared such a big surprise for me."
"Not only that, Laura. This plane is loaded with weapons. I know how dangerous the place you're going is, so I'm not going to be an idiot and tell you not to kill anyone," he said. "It has all the weapons you want, plenty of ammunition, and a full set of medical equipment and alchemical potions. I've printed out an instruction manual and put it in the medicine cabinet; remember to read it."
"Thank you very much." Laura smiled. She had kept the brutal truth about what happened in the Dragon Triangle from almost everyone; no one knew that so many people were still alive on that island. Through that massacre, she had transformed from a defenseless college student into a strong explorer. This spirit was what Salomon admired most, because he had never seen Laura wallow in the shadow of her past killings. She believed that what she had done was right and that she had a clear conscience.
“Don’t mind me, I’m also very interested in the mysteries hidden in history. You know, magic and history are two inseparable disciplines, like conjoined twins,” Salomon said. “I can’t find the time myself to explore historical relics that are still unknown, so I hope you can fulfill this wish for me. You don’t owe me anything, Laura, you’re helping me.”
“You’re the first and most generous wizard I’ve ever met,” Laura said with a smile, her dark ponytail swaying. She had initially been somewhat worried about Salomon’s motives for investigating the Immortal Prophet, but after Salomon showed her the magical world’s methods of immortality and the Philosopher’s Stone, she realized she knew nothing of the mysteries of magic. She had followed Salomon to see the Asgardians who had fled to Earth—though the professor had since disappeared—and she felt there was nothing more mysterious in the world than magic. Her father, Richard Crawford, had once lingered at the gates of mystery; now she could truly embark on that mysterious path.
The thought that all the secrets of the world would be revealed to her filled Laura with immense excitement.
"Are you really not going to Syria with me?" she asked. "As far as I know, the Trinity semester isn't ending for very long."
"Oh, my dear, you have no idea how busy I am." Salomon shook his head. "I'm a regular at the Bodleian Library. The history of the Crusades that you're currently researching is my main research topic. Once I finish my thesis, I'll go there myself, and I hope you can take me to explore some historical sites then."
It's a deal.
"Yes, it's a deal."
