Chapter 539 A Visitor from Another Time

Chapter 539 A Visitor from Another Time (Second Update)

Laura waved goodbye to Salomon before boarding the plane.

She was going to Syria to conduct research, combining clues from local historical sites to confirm the materials her father had collected. Before she left, she had an argument with her stepmother. However, she didn't tell Salomon that her family opposed her archaeological endeavors. After all, suspending her studies to embark on an adventure before completing her Master by Research was not something an ordinary female college student would do—the Crawford family was a truly wealthy family. Even though Sir Richard Crawford was considered an unrealistic delusional person by London high society and tabloids before his death because of his ideals, the Crawford family and its foundation had the ability to ensure Laura's lifelong comfort. As long as she accepted Crawford Estate, all the Crawford family's property would belong to her, not her stepmother who was acting as a proxy supervisor.

Of course, a Gulfstream G550 was also out of reach; there wasn't that much liquid capital, and private jets were ridiculously expensive. If the Quinjet didn't require specially trained pilots, Salomon would have preferred to simply assign her one! Ordering a brand-new private jet through the queue was incredibly difficult; without artificial intelligence, even Salomon, with his exceptional abilities, couldn't have done it.

Salomon trusted Laura's ability to protect herself. He had not only stored a staggering number of small arms on the plane, but also a rocket launcher for extreme environments and battlefields. Laura also had another mission: the plane carried high-tech beacons so Salomon could locate her if she encountered danger during her research.

If she finds any war orphans, she can adjust the beacon to another frequency and give it to the child. Salomon will then retrieve those orphans and raise them. Laura knows what Salomon is doing in Eastern Europe, and she greatly admires what Salomon has done. After all, not everyone can wreak havoc on the Eastern European underworld and escape unscathed; at least many individuals don't have that ability. She's also heard that Salomon uses heavy artillery to bombard gang strongholds, operating on the standards of small-scale, high-intensity warfare—unlike Western gangs, which generally only possess light weapons, such firepower is essential in that land left with a large amount of Soviet military equipment. Some gangs even possess Katyusha multiple rocket launchers.

If Salomon's firepower hadn't been so strong, he wouldn't have been able to snatch people from Eastern Europe.

But once she boarded the plane, she discovered that Salomon had not equipped her with the bolter and chainsaw sword she had been eyeing. However, a .50 caliber sniper rifle would be sufficient to meet her needs.

Salomon did not linger at Heathrow Airport.

He drove the car through the portal and returned to the Immortal City.

In a secret underground chamber unknown even to Maya Hansen, Stephanie Malik, and Natasha Romanoff, Salomon is still training a spy. He needs to have intermittent contact with Lorelei, and his training methods are entirely based on BDSM principles. Lorelei is currently experiencing Stockholm syndrome, but it will take some time for her to be released back into Asgard.

Even if he sends her back, Salomon will still have to help her avoid Heimdall's gaze and Odin's ravens.

Lorelei was his most crucial pawn; the technological leap forward of the Immortal City depended entirely on this daughter of the Rhine. But he wasn't one to discard a pawn; he still possessed some humanity. As long as Lorelei completed her mission, she would forever have a place beside Salomon, a place where she could share power—that was enough for her.

This is also the goal she has always wanted to achieve: to gain power comparable to her enchanting witch sister.

"Darling." He kissed Lorelei's cheek, hidden beneath her red hair. He wouldn't allow her to get dressed in the room. "Are you ready for today's training?" the Rhine's daughter asked, her voice trembling as she placed a thin iron chain in Salomon's hand. "Good girl." His deep voice, brimming with irresistible charm, captivated the Rhine's daughter. "Since you're ready, let's begin."

------------

The Allfather summoned Salomon—literally. While reading in the Bodleian Library, Salomon sensed someone calling him. When he returned the books and cautiously opened his mouth to answer, he found only a large raven. Odin ordered Salomon to drag several corpses clad in thin, black armor into a pit, then gave him several grenades and an equal number of batons-like objects, along with some portable computers worn on wrists. Each corpse bore canine bite marks, its throat ripped open. Salomon glanced at the two large dogs at Odin's feet and knew they were responsible.

The burial pit was enormous. As Salomon dug deeper, he unearthed several bones encased in black bulletproof armor. He took several dozen steps forward and dug again, finding more bones. There were probably hundreds of corpses buried there, meaning that Odin had been killing people every day since he arrived on Earth.

These corpses were all human.

But Salomon had no idea where they came from, and even his attempts at prophecy only yielded false information. The prophecy told him that the owners of these skeletons were still alive.

"Don't tell anyone." Odin didn't explain his reasoning or where these people came from. After Salomon finished his work, he sent him back. The arcane mage stared blankly at the high-tech contraption in his hands, completely clueless about its purpose. He pressed a few buttons and discovered that the portable computer on his wrist emitted a holographic image—a bust of Frigga.

He shook his head and dialed Su Rui's number. He knew where these guys came from; maintaining the multiverse and the Time Stone was one of Kamar-Taj's duties, and he knew something about this mysterious organization. That organization, independent of time, couldn't use magic because there were no magical entities or concepts there to provide magical power.

"I have something here that might interest you," he said in Xhosa. "I promise, just like that piece of clothing."

For reasons unknown, the nanotech time-travel suit brought by Captain America from another world was a downgraded version, lacking Pym Particles. Salomon would need to obtain them himself to use it. Even though Dr. Pym was currently living a secluded life, getting a vial of Pym Particles wouldn't be difficult for him; it was just that the grumpy old man was somewhat unpleasant—but actually, aside from his terrible temper, Dr. Pym was quite likable. This was no joke; Salomon didn't care about the other man's bad attitude. What he valued was knowledge.

He had plenty of ways to bribe Dr. Pym; he just wanted someone to argue with.

The technology on the garment dazzled Su Rui, but Salomon wouldn't allow her to conduct destructive research on the sole sample for the time being. He had several of these gadgets in his hands, enough to satisfy Su Rui's curiosity.

“You have a lot to analyze,” Salomon said, “but for now, we need to set up an anti-teleportation array in the Immortal City. Something wants to get in; we have to kill them.”
