Chapter 540 The Irritable Old Man
Chapter 540 The Irritable Old Man (First Update)
Kamar-Taj controls the Time Stone to prevent the flow of time from going awry and causing the destruction of the universe.
The Venerable One scoffed at the organization that claimed to maintain the timelines, for Kamar-Taj was the true organization maintaining the multiverse, protecting the Eternal God himself. This was the choice of each universe, not some self-proclaimed, worthless organization. Salomon knew of the organization called the Time Mutation Administration, but had never paid it any attention, because they dared not provoke the arcane mages of Kamar-Taj—due to the prophetic spells bestowed by Vishanti, any attempt by other timeline forces to attack the arcane mages would be foreseen. Both sides avoided conflict; no matter how many people they sent, they would be killed. Therefore, Salomon had never heard of this generation of arcane mages ever clashing with the Time Mutation Administration.
But this time they approached Odin.
Salomon knew this was why Frigga had survived, yet they assumed Odin was as weak and powerless as the mortals they had captured in the past. Salomon didn't know what had given that organization the courage to attack the King of Asgard. An aging lion is still a lion, especially the Allfather, known for his cruelty and cunning. The lawn behind the cabin was littered with the corpses of that organization's agents—some with their throats ripped open by giant wolves, some with their eyes pecked out by crows, and some charred black as if struck by lightning.
Salomon had no objection to Odin's actions.
Kamar-Taj will not allow visitors from other timelines to disrupt the course of this world. Even if Odin doesn't act, the Venerable One will have the arcane sorcerers hunt down those agents. When Salomon saw the corpses, a question arose—his birth was definitely an accident, or the work of some scheme. While the mastermind is still unclear, it's certain he wasn't a natural being. Until now, he has strictly adhered to Kamar-Taj's rules, trying his best not to disrupt the original world's progress, but every second this accidental existence lives is a disruption and reconstruction of the timeline. That organization definitely hasn't been idle.
In other words, that organization must have tried to harm him, but they were stopped. The answer is obvious: when he was unable to fight, it must have been the Venerable One who stopped them. Salomon put the shovel back next to the woodpile beside the cabin, a plan forming in his mind.
After ending the call, he weighed the portable computer in his hand.
His future plans will undoubtedly cause a massive disruption to the timeline; that's for sure. The Eternal God doesn't mind the plan, because it can only benefit the universe. He's still a target of that organization, and once the plan succeeds, more people will become targets. If those people then reappear to cause trouble at key junctures, he believes he'll be absolutely unable to stop them. Therefore, he must eliminate that organization once and for all to prevent anyone from interfering with his future plans.
Once Su Rui has explained how to use the equipment, the first phase of the plan will be complete, and it will be time for Salomon to attack the organization. Since magic is unusable there, technology can be used. Furthermore, the essence of the Holy Mark isn't magic, but something more mysterious; he believes his power might be effective there.
But not now. Salomon never underestimates any enemy. What he needs to do now is set up defenses in the Immortal City to prevent them from taking Maya Hansen away. She is Salomon's most important scientist, and if she is taken away, Salomon's plan will have failed halfway.
The working principle of teleportation portals is the same: if you can defend against magical teleportation portals, you can defend against technological teleportation portals, because truth is absolute, an unchanging, cold, objective reality, an interaction between time and space. However, setting up a sufficiently large anti-teleportation array to cover all key facilities is an extremely difficult task. Although the Immortal City is located underground in Rome, its area is slightly larger than Rome itself. An anti-teleportation array covering the entire city would be extremely costly and would require coordinated casting. He simply cannot do that now; his casters are neither manpower nor skill enough. Therefore, the spell he plans to cast in certain key locations is an [Anti-Technology Field] to block technological items, biological entities, and energy signals from entering its area of influence.
This will cause problems for Maya Hansen's work. But until all the key nodes have been set up with magic arrays, and until Shuri takes targeted measures against interdimensional teleportation, she can only wait.
Salomon didn't delay; he immediately returned to the Immortal City and handed the items to Princess Shuri. He also dispatched several androids specializing in swordsmanship to provide close protection for Maya Hansen, preventing any unauthorized personnel from approaching her.
"Immortal City, enter highest level of defense," Salomon ordered Tita. "Check everyone's identification; kill anyone whose identity is unknown on the spot. Increase patrol density; use assault transport ships as vehicles within the city." He turned to Su Rui and said, "Stop all research projects. First, analyze the functions of the equipment I gave you and find countermeasures. Immortal City needs security; everything else can wait."
Tita accepted the order without asking any questions.
"Who on earth wants to attack the Immortal City?" Su Rui frowned. "Could it be that outsiders have found out about this place?"
“Worse, they might be from a parallel universe.” Salomon curled his lip, leaning back in his high chair, letting the rigid design of the backrest torment him. “The things I gave you came from a place independent of all time. But unfortunately, they are our enemies. Some people in this timeline are dead but still alive, and they want to take those people away to ensure that the fate of all timelines is the same,” he said. “What we are doing goes against their wishes, so they want us dead.”
"Who died?" Princess Shuri asked curiously. She was already used to the strange things happening around Salomon. A visitor from a parallel universe was nothing to her, not even as shocking as Salomon shattering the Antarctic blizzard last time. Even the corpse she moved out of the office last time was far stranger than a visitor from a parallel universe; at least a parallel universe was reality, while that thing wasn't. But Salomon only glanced at it and didn't answer. She shrugged, feeling a bit awkward, and then brought up something else.
"Why don't you give me all the samples? Do you want to do the research yourself?"
"You're not the smartest person in the world, Shuri. In fact, I have several other scientific advisors."
"Who?"
"An old man with an absolutely terrible temper, introduced to me by Agent Hand."
"I assure you I didn't mean to say you had a bad temper, Mr. Hank Pym," Salomon sighed. "I invited you not because..."
"I'm not interested!" The old man wore glasses and looked quite refined. But judging from his strength, he must have been quite robust in his youth. The irritable Hank Pym tried to push Salomon out the door, causing Salomon to slam the back of his head against the top of his doorframe.
The last time Salomon came to demand the Pym Particles, the hot-tempered old man almost pulled out a shotgun, thinking Salomon was sent by his student to steal the Pym Particle technology. If Salomon hadn't shown him that futuristic technological artifact, giving him hope for the quantum realm, he wouldn't have agreed to the deal. Now he's studying the information Salomon provided, because Salomon refused to hand over the time-travel suit, only agreeing to share the technology and theories within it.
"You're pushing your luck, kid!" Hank Pym cursed as he walked into the house, leaving Salomon in the doorway. A moment later, Salomon saw him come out with a shotgun.
