Chapter 570 New Orders
Chapter 570 New Orders (First Update)
A meteor streaked across the horizon, the raging flames enveloping the spacecraft almost solidifying. The makeshift insulation, burning at thousands of degrees Celsius, continued to dissipate, trailing long plumes of fine metallic dust that revealed the shuttle's scratched surface. This shuttle, adrift in the atmosphere, had witnessed several interstellar boarding operations, almost the entire process by which Salomon, with a dilapidated smuggling ship, rose to become the most feared pirate on the galactic edge.
The cargo holds, which should have been filled with boarding personnel, were now crammed with data storage devices from various civilizations across the galaxy. These pirates were all citizens expelled from their respective civilizations, and the dangerous technologies they possessed naturally became Salomon's spoils—information he had deliberately gathered during this journey.
Tita watched the crimson meteor streak across the sky, then abruptly turn with a maneuverability almost impossible for an atmospheric vehicle, gliding south towards the Lat Islands. Because the spacecraft's movements were so incredibly fast, the alien fleet disappeared just as quickly. Unless it was a Starlink system capable of detecting planetary infrared radiation, almost no nation's spacecraft or satellites could keep up with the shuttle's speed. Humanity currently lacked such technology, but once Salomon's Immortal City deciphered the data storage devices in the shuttle's cargo hold, its technological level would far surpass Wakanda's, giving it a dominant position in future collaborations.
The tooth-grinding tremors finally subsided, and the flames encasing the reinforced glass extinguished, leaving only scattered metal shavings burning on the shuttle's surface. Lyudmila and Lilia, suppressing their excitement, followed Lady Tita's orders and stood with the other ladies to welcome the monarch's arrival. Their expensive visual aids within their helmets allowed them to pinpoint the shuttle's location in the darkness, but some things were invisible to their electronic eyes—as the shuttle drew closer, Lyudmila, whose air filtration system was not yet activated, smelled the stench of ionized air. The rubble on the ground tumbled violently under the powerful recoil, and even smaller stones and pebbles struck their armor with a series of thuds. Even though their master had not yet left the aircraft, Lyudmila and Lilia could feel his heartbeat.
It was an incredibly powerful experience; they couldn't quite articulate what they were thinking at the time. They tried to recall it afterward, but the memory faded with time, and they couldn't remember the monarch's face no matter what they tried. All they remembered was the warm, golden light flowing from the cockpit, and the mental exhaustion left by their past training melted away like snow—in that moment, they truly believed in the sorority's long-held faith. They knelt down with all the other sorority members, completely overwhelmed by their reverence. They began to firmly believe that their past suffering was a prayer for the future, and that faith was their protection.
They will always remember that gentle, weary yet incomparably solemn voice.
The monarch issued new operational orders: they would cooperate with the intelligence service in a battle at an ancient ruin in Siberia. The intelligence service needed to rescue a female target, while the Sisterhood needed to find treasures the monarch had stored there. Their opponents would be an ancient cult and some immortal monsters; although the enemy was only armed with light weapons, the harsh weather would be their greatest challenge. The operational orders were concise and clear, but Lyudmila and Lilia, staying in their aerial carrier dormitory, found it difficult to calm their nerves until the Sisterhood informed them to collect their Steel Wings.
Lyudmila and Lilia learned how to use the Steel Wings.
Operating this equipment required an exceptionally good sense of balance. Lilia had even bumped her head twice during specialized training, resulting in two large bumps, so she always seemed somewhat nervous when equipping it. She carefully checked the condition of the force feedback armor with the Steel Wings servo system, repeatedly trying to draw her sword and gun with her gloved hands, feeling the power armor's deep roar, fearing she might make a mistake during flight or fail to utilize the skills she had acquired through training. In combat, even a small error could be fatal, especially since the force feedback armor was completely unequipped with a parachute. If she made a mistake, even the armor itself might not be able to save her life.
"The Steel Wings have been issued, and the new combat personnel are ready for this operation. These are Lyudmila and Lilia's live-fire training scores, close-combat scores, and aircraft piloting scores. I must say, Your Majesty, you really spoil those girls too much." Tita reported the progress in detail to Salomon, who sat on the bridge throne. Out of a sense of responsibility to her monarch, Tita wouldn't miss any detail she thought Salomon needed to know. Salomon also sensed her thoughts through their soul connection, but to protect Tita's pride, he said nothing.
He reached out wearily and gently stroked Tita's cheek, completely ignoring the blush rising on the android's face. "You've done well, Tita. We'll need you for the work ahead," he said slowly. "Our future will be even more difficult. I need all the help I can, because our enemy is God. And I..."
"I'll do my best, Master!" Tita muttered softly, completely ignoring the last part of her sentence. Twenty minutes ago, she was busy arranging for the assault transport ships loaded with heavy firepower and Quinjet fighters to escort the alien shuttle, while the accompanying engineering team had its oversized wings cut off and stored in the now-empty hangar of the Sky Carrier. The Sky Carrier had to delay its takeoff to accommodate the alien shuttle.
Salomon found an excuse to prevent the Wakandan scientists from working on the data storage devices at this time. His wariness of the Wakandans was obvious, but he just couldn't take action yet.
A sudden communication from Victoria Hand interrupted Tita's enjoyment of being with Salomon. The agent's holographic image showed her arms crossed, her bright red hair clearly visible. She wore a simple business suit, a gold brooch from the intelligence department pinned to her chest, but her lightweight exoskeleton issued by the Immortal City was nowhere to be seen. It was a short-range communication, a call request from an aircraft carrier cruising in the Sea of Japan to a carrier in the sky. "C-A1 agent's latest report," Victoria Hand stated succinctly, without any preamble or pleasantries. "Laura Crawford has escaped Trinity's prison, and C-A1 agent has begun tracking her. We are using reconnaissance satellites to locate the agent, who can guide the Sorority and special forces for precision landing strikes."
"Very good." Salomon nodded. "Remember to keep the agents away from Laura Crawford. Laura Crawford will not die until she has completed her mission."
"Can you reveal what the mission is?" Agent Hand asked. "I believe that the more information we have, the easier it is to control the situation. I don't know why you're so interested in a female college student and an adventurer."
"Perhaps it's the resurrection of a god," Salomon replied casually. "I don't know much about Quetzalcoatl either. As the god who ushered in a new era among the second generation of gods, His current status is not recorded in the library of Kamar-Taj. But in any case, the power of fate is incredibly mysterious, and I don't want my agents to die at the hands of Laura Crawford."
"I think you should be concerned about something else." Agent Hand sent several images to the Skycarrier's command terminal. "Those blue-flaming creatures photographed by satellite are the real threat."
"Phoenix has already set off. It will clear obstacles with fire, and no creature that plays with fire can stand against it."
