Chapter 645 Cruel Ideal

Chapter 645 Cruel Ideals (Second Update)

"Where is he! How could you let him take Jiaying away!" Her heart pounded in her ears, the mixed-race girl deaf to all advice, her emotions already ignited by rage. Her eyes reddened, her well-developed tear ducts still holding firm. "Don't you know what he'll do to Jiaying, Coulson?" Skye felt her lips and nose grow cold and numb, her nasal passages repeatedly stimulated by tears. "He's a madman! You can't even imagine what he'll do to her!"

"Skye, you don't know what happened back then!"

Since Coulson's return from the Immortal City, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. had become increasingly silent, and no one knew what secret Salomon had revealed to him. Faced with Skye's questioning, Simmons hurriedly closed the glass door of the Airbus research department, confining the argument to this corner.

“Many agents died, and Agent Hand led a team to save the carrier. You were locked in your room then, and if you had seen the corridor before it was cleaned, you wouldn’t have doubted what Agent Hand would do,” she said. “In fact, Agent Weaver went with Agent Hand… She was disappointed in us; Agent Hand believed our weakness led to Commander Gonzalez’s death. We… we couldn’t fight back. The carrier was full of Salomon agents, and you know they really do kill. He made us bring Carl back, and he also said…”

"What else did he say?"

"He promises Jia Ying a beautiful death," Coulson said coldly. "For someone like Jia Ying, this is already a good ending. She will never give up using Terrigen to turn humans into Inhumans, and for those innocent people..."

“But he could lock Jia Ying up,” Skye murmured, her voice involuntarily lowering. Before she realized what was happening, several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had already lost their lives because of Jia Ying’s scheme. She kept blaming herself, thinking that if she had discovered Jia Ying’s plot sooner, perhaps those dutiful agents would have survived. “But the others… the others were incited by Jia Ying’s hatred; they believed that humanity, or rather S.H.I.E.L.D., was hostile towards them.”

"Salomon is a staunch humanist. He doesn't care about right or wrong; he only cares about survival." Although Simmons hadn't had many interactions with Salomon, she could still draw a general conclusion: "Discussing good and evil is meaningless to him. For him, the greatest justice is the survival of humans and the death of non-humans. Now that the Inhumans have caused human lives to be lost, Salomon will not give up this revenge!"

"This isn't revenge, Simmons. You underestimate Salomon. The reason he took Jiaying and those Inhumans was simply because Jiaying possessed the information Salomon wanted—he wanted to know how Jiaying found the unawakened Inhumans, how she obtained the technology to extract Terrigen. He believed that there was a threat hidden behind the 'Afterlife' that we were unaware of, a threat that might be related to aliens. Clearly, he knew some information we couldn't obtain, otherwise he wouldn't have valued Jiaying so much."

Faced with Skye, whom he treated like a daughter, Coulson ultimately couldn't control his emotions.

“I oppose this behavior, but his stance is very firm,” he said. “The chief interrogator is Natasha Romanoff. I’m familiar with Black Widow’s interrogation process; she takes a long time and won’t do anything rough. But Jia Ying is very likely to refuse to cooperate, so Salomon will definitely resort to extreme measures. He’s also brought in Wanda Maximoff, that new Avenger who supposedly can disrupt people’s minds… We don’t understand the interrogation mechanisms of magic at all, and it’s very likely that Jia Ying’s brain will be damaged after the interrogation. Only if Agent Natasha Romanoff can get something out of him will Salomon give up using magic… Or you, Skye, unless you can get Jia Ying to say what Salomon wants, but we all know Jia Ying’s attitude, that’s impossible.”

Skye was nearly overwhelmed by grief and anger. Seeing her heartbreaking state, Coulson sighed heavily.

"But Salomon doesn't know that," he suddenly said, "we can use this to buy some time, and then..."

"Sir?"

"It's time for the Avengers to know I'm alive. They definitely have a lot of questions." Coulson smiled. "I'll arrange a meeting; only they can stop Salomon from committing such atrocities. Skye, perhaps you should join the Avengers and play a role on a bigger stage. You have superpowers now..."

“You know I’m not going anywhere, Coulson.” Skye sniffed again. Simmons handed her a tissue, which Skye took with a sheepish expression. She knew what mistake she had made, and she knew how precious Coulson and Melinda May’s forgiveness was. “You also know who my family is. Not Jia Ying, not Carl, but you all.”

"Oh! Come here, sweetheart!" Simmons hugged Skye's head and ruffled her thick, long hair. After a while, she finally released the blushing Skye. "Sir, Black Widow and the new Avengers have joined the interrogation. Will the other Avengers really help?"

"Yes, he will!" Coulson nodded. "At least the person I know will!"

After receiving the call, Salomon, under repeated persuasion from Agent Coulson, finally agreed to slow down the interrogation process. However, Coulson's persuasion wasn't his primary motivation; more importantly, it was Wanda's psychological issues. The apprentice disliked using brutal interrogation methods, and Salomon was prepared for this. He wanted to give Wanda more time to understand the origins of the Inhumans and the atrocities the Kree committed against humanity. He wasn't a vengeful vengeful person; he simply wanted Wanda to understand how important the information Jia Ying might possess was.

The interrogation room door opened, and Natasha Romanov stepped out. She shook her head, her expression one of utter helplessness.

"She still refuses to cooperate, and I feel like she might spit on me at any moment."

“That’s not surprising, considering she was dissected alive by Whitehall. To observe the physiological characteristics of the Inhumans, Whitehall would go to great lengths to keep her alive and conscious on the dissection table.” Salomon looked at the expressionless woman behind the one-way mirror. In the blinding white light of the interrogation room, the woman suddenly looked up at the glass, her eyes burning with hatred that seemed to melt it. “I wouldn’t be surprised how insane she is now. Simple interrogation and coaxing won’t break her deep-seated hatred; I doubt even her soul will speak.”

“It could also be that there wasn’t enough time. Everyone has a desire to confide in others. Give me time, and I’ll let her tell me what you want to know.” Natasha Romanoff thought of something Wanda had confided in her. Wanda knew about Salomon’s ideals but couldn’t quite accept the harsh reality that lay beneath them. She said she would gradually accept it, although it would be difficult, but she believed that one day she would understand Salomon—this idea angered Natasha greatly. She felt that Wanda had no need to cater to Salomon, even though he was her teacher.

But then she thought of the spirit of sacrifice in Kamar-Taj, and suddenly she couldn't say a word.

"A bunch of martyrs." That was Natasha's assessment of Kamar-Taj, and Salomon was the most radical of those martyrs. "I'll handle this, Wanda," Natasha Romanoff reassured Wanda. "I'm S.H.I.E.L.D.'s best agent, trust me."
