Chapter 667 The Hymn of Humanity is a Hymn of Courage

Chapter 667 The Hymn of Humanity is a Hymn of Courage (Second Update)

The problems on the ground have not yet been resolved.

After James Boone's death, the other vampire corpses lying nearby began to change. At first, there was only a barely noticeable stench; after all, there was another vampire corpse with its forehead ripped open, and the putrid smell was enough to mask the others. But soon, Salomon noticed that the corpses began to secrete a grayish-white slime, and tiny, fat worms kept crawling out of the bodies of the Boone family vampires, causing the corpses to rapidly swell to a horrifying degree. This included James Boone's body. Wanda took a few steps back in horror, the sight so grotesque it was almost inhuman, and her still-human mind couldn't bear it.

"In the deepest cave dwells terrifying creatures, so strange and bizarre that they cannot be seen. In cursed lands, the thoughts of the dead gain new life and grotesque bodies, headless yet inhabited by evil thoughts. The great sage Ibn Schacabao said: 'It is a blessing to have no graves where wizards lie dead, and a blessing to have no nights in cities where wizards' ashes are scattered.'" Salomon quickly retrieved a book from his vast, boundless memory that matched this phenomenon and recited a passage fluently. "This is the worm, the slithering sorcerer. The souls of those who befriend demons return to their corpses after death, and thousands upon thousands of worms will occupy the mind of a wizard. Terrifying life will spring from the rotting corpse, and dull, carrion-eating maggots will become cunning. Wanda…"

The sorcerer was now certain who was behind it all. He reached out and pressed his hand against the witch's forehead.

"It spoke again?"

"Yes!" The witch cried, her eyes tightly shut, writhing in agony. She felt her mind being torn apart, the filthy whispers constantly tempting her to plunge into the dark sea. "I cannot banish the devil's voice, teacher," she said. "That voice wants me to accept it!"

"Stay focused." The sorcerer took out a black blindfold and put it on her. "No matter what happens or what sounds you hear, do not remove the blindfold."

Kasirius left the command platform and summoned all the arcane mages who had boarded the Punishment Sky Carrier.

These mages had all had ample rest. After receiving orders, they dispersed to various parts of the Skycarrier, placing at least one mage wherever there was a direct view of the outside world and where mortals worked. The mages on the other two Skycarriers were doing the same, and the Sisterhood's combat personnel also shared the workload—their task was nothing special: to promptly execute any mortals who went mad on the spot. Salomon had indicated that this mission would involve corrupted chaos magic, and as one of Kamar-Taj's top secrets, Kasirius would not allow any mentally unstable madmen to cause unrest on the Skycarriers. Even those who hadn't gone mad after being exposed to chaos magic would undergo brainwashing and screening during their work to ensure they wouldn't betray humanity and side with the evil god. Kasirius didn't understand why Salomon was demanding these mortals face such indescribable horrors, but a mission was a mission. This was Salomon's first time leading a battlefield on Kamar-Taj, and everyone had to obey his commands.

The central air conditioning system was humming loudly, and many staff members were covered in cold sweat.

Agent Victoria Hand had addressed the mortals via the broadcast system. They knew full well what they were about to face, and they had no idea whether they would go insane. Perhaps some believed their will was strong enough to resist madness, but Kasirius remained vigilant. Any hint of siding with the evil god would be detected and eliminated by his eyes. The Sky Carriers had arrived over Casco Bay, and following orders from the ground, the three carriers slowly sank into the lightning-streaked clouds. This was a highly irregular maneuver, but under Agent Hand's cold gaze, the helmsman wiped the cold sweat from his brow and carried out the order.

Lightning flashed just meters from the aircraft carrier. A deafening clap of thunder nearly shattered the reinforced glass windows of the bridge, and tiny bolts of lightning struck the carrier's electromagnetic shields, illuminating Agent Victoria Hand's expressionless face with blinding flashes. The carrier's lighting systems flickered incessantly. She stood on the command platform, hands behind her back, issuing orders to the helmsman. "Continue sinking. This ship was designed to handle extreme environments during its refit," she said to all the agents seated at their computers. "We are now standing atop the pinnacle of human technology, agents. Cast aside your cowardice! If we cannot even conquer a small storm, how can we achieve our grand ambition of conquering the galaxy? Do your jobs well. Today, you will use the power of technology to confront humanity's most primal fears. Today, you will all write a feat never before seen in human history!"

"This is no small storm." Only Agent Hand could hear Cassirios's voice, but the head of the intelligence department didn't even bother to turn around and look at him.

"Adjusting the hull angle..."

"Fire control system ready..."

"Air defenses are ready..."

"Cannon Number One is ready..."

"Awaiting orders!" Agent Hand raised a hand. As she lowered that arm, the macro cannon, with a caliber far exceeding that of the Gustav heavy artillery and the "Little David" mortar, would fire. Combined with the dense firepower of the Sky Carrier, she could hardly imagine what creature in the world could withstand such an attack. She was waiting for an order, an order from Salomon.

Salomon stood on the Midway Rock lighthouse, his arm around the witch's shoulder.

Beneath the lighthouse, numerous fires blazed, the vampire's bloated corpse, along with worms crawling from its skin, writhing and burning in flames as tall as a person, emitting a suffocating stench. Cleaning up these nascent worms required little effort, but for anyone who witnessed them, the psychological trauma was unbearable. Wanda didn't remove her blindfold; she could only feel the intense heat and hear faint, almost inaudible screams.

Salomon lit the long-extinguished lighthouse, its bright beam piercing the storm. He looked up and watched as three sky carriers parted the thick clouds like gray whales leaping from the clouds. At the same time, three almost invisible planes approached from the distance. Salomon opened his arms to the sea and chanted the incantation to command the worms, "The final incantation, come! Gyyagin vardar! Alyah! Alyah! Gyyagin!"

The earthquake reached its peak magnitude at that moment, the epicenter rising and causing increasing damage. Wanda had to hold onto the handrail of the lighthouse corridor to avoid falling into the sea. She felt the seawater splashing against her face and body, and the abrasions on her hands and knees, which were healing, burned painfully. Suddenly, she felt the smell of seawater recede rapidly, and the rain that had been pounding against the barrier with a dull thud stopped.

"What happened?" She suddenly couldn't sense Salomon's presence anymore, which made her panic. "Did it work?"

"The earthquake epicenter is rising! Coordinates..."

Even though not most people could directly see the monster's appearance, the beams of light from the searchlight drones launched by the aircraft carrier and the images of the monster captured by high-definition cameras were enough to send chills down one's spine. An 800-foot-tall, grayish-white worm rose from the sea surface, seawater cascading down its slimy skin like a waterfall. In the footage, they could vaguely see the abhorrent monster, the size of a World War II-era Iowa-class battleship, first turning towards the lighthouse, then extending its pale, viscous tip towards the searchlight drones emitting blinding beams of light, easily crushing one of them.

Perhaps it had spotted three sky carriers hovering beneath the clouds; compared to the drones, the size of the sky carriers posed a greater threat. It raised its head, its feeding mouth, filled with sharp teeth, opening like flower petals, from which a viscous liquid continuously dripped. Victoria Hand heard a collective gasp of astonishment near the command post and on the communication channels.

Cassilios quickly issued the order.

The sorcerers dragged the pale, trembling men from their seats, and after repeatedly confirming they were insane, immediately carried out the orders. The same thing happened on the other two sky carriers, some with chainswords, others with bare hands. "They're beyond saving; madness is irreversible." His clothes were soaked in blood. He stepped forward and loudly announced to the agents, "Those who are still alive, you have triumphed over madness with courage, defeated the most powerful weapon of the great enemy that has plagued humanity! Now, straighten your spines; it is your turn to show that disgusting monster the fury and pride of humanity!"

Victoria Hand nodded, confirming the order from the ground. Then she waved her hand, the one that signaled to fire. This was the first time in human history that technological artifacts had been used to fight against extradimensional monsters, and the first time ordinary people had roared at an evil god and his minions. Even Agent Hand couldn't contain her excitement.

"For humanity! Fire!"
