Marvel Magic Case Files
Chapter 675
Chapter 675 (Second Update)
"You've already died once," Nick Fury said, looking at Steve Rogers and Tony Stark crammed into the same cell, habitually throwing out a scare tactic first. Stark smiled dismissively, while Rogers stared intently at Nick Fury's remaining eye. "Agent Hand has decided to release you," the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. said gleefully. "Be glad you didn't lose your lives after getting involved in the magical event!"
“I knew he wouldn’t keep us locked up here for long,” Stark said with a laugh. “Everything here is great, except for the lack of showers. The pasta is awful, but thankfully there are some decent drinks. And let me correct one thing, Nick Fury: I almost died! They broke my spine and then fixed it! Do you know how painful it is to have your spine healed?”
"Then you should be glad you still have your spine, Stark. I've seen arcane sorcerers rip people's heads off."
"Tell me, what deal did you make with Salomon?" Steve Rogers slammed his fist on the reinforced glass panel of his cell. He wasn't as optimistic as Stark. "And whose life did you pay with yours?"
“All the agents you brought need to be checked. I mean, the survivors you protected from under the machine gun barrels.” Nick Fury’s expression remained unchanged. He stood with his hands behind his back, meeting Captain Rogers’s gaze. “You can recall for a moment who disregarded warnings and got involved in this. Captain Rogers, you’re the one who exposed the agents to magical contamination, you’re the one who killed them. Kamar-Taj was just following the rules. Tony Stark, you’re no better. Steve Rogers only got involved to save you! I hope the deaths of two Quinjets and dozens of agents will make you realize the reality: your vigilante game could have caused an even greater disaster. If Salomon and Victoria Hand hadn’t exercised restraint, you wouldn’t be in such dire straits right now!”
"I don't consider using heavy machine guns to fire at unarmed agents at close range to be 'restraint'!" Captain Rogers said angrily.
"Do you know what he did? I mean Salomon Damonette, not the guy who broke my spine, that guy was actually alright." Stark jumped up from the bench, instantly siding with Steve Rogers. "He illegally detained a woman with superpowers, or rather, an enhanced individual. And he planned to interrogate her illegally, in a very cruel way. I haven't even brought up your lying yet, Nick Fury! You didn't tell us Agent Coulson was still alive!"
"Jiaying is involved in a very important secret, related to an alien invasion. You have no idea how important this is, but I can reveal a little—that alien invasion occurred in the Stone Age, and they used humans as material for genetic engineering. This involves the genetic safety of tens of millions of people in the world today. Until that matter is fully understood, they are at risk of becoming infected, dying, or even being captured by aliens and enslaved. Agent Coulson was resurrected, and his resurrection is also related to the alien invasion. You can guess why I kept this a secret. Although I failed to find Hydra, I still prepared a backup plan." Nick Fury glanced at him. "If I had to choose, I would agree with Salomon's course of action, and I would be even more ruthless than him."
"That's what makes us different, Nick Fury. We're the Avengers, not S.H.I.E.L.D.," Captain Rogers said. "We won't abandon anyone."
Stark nodded in agreement.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. is a shield to maintain order and prevent ordinary people from encountering supernatural events. And you? You are constantly creating disasters and wasting innocent lives! Nothing in this world is perfect, and we can't save everyone. But if we don't even allow for a little sacrifice, it will lead to more deaths. That's why S.H.I.E.L.D. adheres to a minimum casualty limit—because we know some dirty work has to be done!"
Nick Fury spoke sternly, pointing at Captain Rogers, "I can't believe you're still so naive after all this war, Rogers! Do you think S.H.I.E.L.D. is an organization that indiscriminately kills innocent people with licenses to do so? Do you think the sacrifices of agents who make those choices are less significant than those made during wartime? It seems to me that you consistently disregard the lives of agents, while Salomon, who seems to value those who harm innocent people more, does so because he won't let agents die in meaningless ways! If he were here, he might slowly explain the origins and dangers of anarchism to you. But I won't say that. I want you to watch here and see how many agents survive! Don't forget who wasted their lives!"
They were silent for a moment.
"Where's Vision?" Stark asked. "I heard he came along too, but he was defeated!"
“Vision is doing well. That robot has met his match. The sorcerers are using the safest methods to imprison him,” Nick Fury replied. “Have you ever seen a bug in amber? Vision is that bug now. You'll be able to leave in ten minutes, but Vision will be a little later. The sorcerers are worried about Vision, so they'll personally deliver him to Stark Tower.”
"The defense system was activated on Friday; they can't get in!"
"Trust me, they can do it," Nick Fury said slowly. "Salomon can enter my office at will, and other arcane mages can enter and leave your secret room without much difficulty."
Salomon glanced at his phone, then continued signing the documents. Agent Hand had completed her mission, but the prophecy Salomon received indicated that the agent's work was far from over. The madwoman's prophecy, the worms, the [Worm Summoning Technique], and "The Secret of the Worms"—all the clues connected led to an answer that sent chills down Salomon's spine. He recalled a warning from a dream years ago: the influence of an evil god awakened in the 31st century permeated the entire timeline.
The idea of a foolish vampire is a misconception.
Regardless of what the future holds, he had to complete all the necessary paperwork to take a prisoner away. Officer Carter repeatedly explained her cell phone number to the mentally unstable woman and insisted she memorize it. "If anyone hurts you, find a phone and dial this number, understand?" She seemed very worried about the woman's safety. "Make sure you remember it, okay?"
“You don’t need to worry about this, Officer Carter,” Salomon sighed. “We even fattened her up by two kilograms.”
"Excuse my bluntness, but you don't look like good people or FBI agents at all."
"We are not, but we can't say we aren't either. Even if the director came, he couldn't deny it." Salomon shrugged. "I can't go into the specific reasons, but I believe Mr. Finch has already convinced you."
Bayonetta was overjoyed and gave her friend Samun Shaw, who only reached her chest, a tight hug. Salomon had to pull Samun Shaw away because the woman didn't seem to want to leave his girlfriend's chest at all. The woman's eyes were now sparkling, seemingly captivated by Bayonetta's new look.
"I think you don't need to come, darling."
"I think you need a new hairstyle, Salomon. You look too British, too effeminate!" Samun Shaw bluntly pointed out Salomon's flaws. The two shared similar bloodlines and high-bridged noses, which had made them good friends. Samun Shaw was a mutual friend of Salomon and the witch, and had also spoken with Officer Carter, who was relieved to see her arrive.
Now she no longer has to worry about these two suddenly killing someone!
