Chapter 676, same type 1

Chapter 676 Same Type (First Update)

Steve Rogers gritted his teeth, watching as the Avengers agents were escorted through the cells one by one. The number of agents was far less than the combined capacity of the Shield One and Falcon One Quinjet transports—less than half—and most were wounded, having received only basic treatment so far. The Shield One pilot had gone berserk, plunging the plane into the sea, killing at least half the agents. The remaining survivors, after boarding Falcon One, were then subjected to machine gun fire from the Sorority's heavy firepower team. Although he used his shield to protect some, several agents perished along with the Silver Hunter One Quinjet in the explosive high-caliber bullets. Falcon was also slightly wounded; he was among the being escorted.

Kasirius wasn't lying; some agents could have survived, but they died on the tarmac because of his stubbornness. Captain Rogers could see the hatred for the arcane mages in the agents' eyes, and this emotion seemed to be spreading. Even Stark was becoming angry—he kept making strange noises, whistling, waving at the escort team, or cursing, shouting, and accusing them of how barbaric and brutal this behavior was, trying to get the team's attention.

But to the sorcerers escorting them, neither the agents' hatred nor Stark's rage mattered. They weren't naive apprentices; they were sorcerers who had truly slain monsters. For the time prior, these agents had been under their tight guard—their mouths gagged, their limbs immobilized by metal, even their fingers paralyzed. This was to prevent the corrupted among them from sacrificing their lives to cast spells and draw filthy runes, dragging the terrifying beings into the real universe. This was the experience Kamar-Taj had gained through over a thousand years of trial and error, learning and summarizing—a price paid in blood, and the knowledge gained. Mardour's son, Damon, had received this kind of surveillance. In a few minutes, the agents would undergo mental examinations. This task was carried out by a group of deacon-level sorcerers led by Kasirius. These individuals possessed extremely rich experience in resisting corruption; while not as elite as the veterans of the outer dimensional battlefields, they were still the backbone of Kamar-Taj.

"You didn't even bring Dr. Banner with you!" Stark's complaint went unnoticed by Captain Rogers. He knew Captain Rogers didn't want to listen, but he continued talking, as if he needed a dumping ground rather than someone to talk to. "I know Dr. Banner doesn't want to see anyone after what happened in South Africa; after all, he's still on the wanted list. But if you had brought him, I think things would have been much simpler, and I wouldn't be in this mess... Why didn't you use social connections to get me out of here? I admit I acted impulsively, but I didn't expect things to get this bad..." Stark sighed. "So, what are you planning to do now?"

"There's nothing I can do." Steve Rogers clenched his fists, his eyes filled with confusion. "I don't know who's right and who's wrong, and I don't know who I should be angry at right now. Nick Fury said that Salomon has saved at least tens of millions of innocent lives, even though they don't know who saved them. If I had stuck to my own opinion and left the professional work to the professionals, instead of insisting on bringing them here, these agents wouldn't have died."

"This is your fault, and my fault is that I rushed over to find Salomon before this was over, but that doesn't mean he's without fault." Stark thought for a moment, then said slowly, "He still illegally detained, illegally interrogated, and even murdered a woman, even if that woman killed a high-ranking agent. He didn't have the right to do that. Am I right?"

"Do you still think Salomon would obey our laws? He obeys the commandments of the magical order Kamar-Taj. His moral judgment, all his good and evil deeds, are governed by those commandments," Steve Rogers stated, quoting the psychoanalysis Natasha Romanoff had told him. "He doesn't consider things from a personal perspective when it comes to magical matters. Stark, at that moment, his personal desires seemed to have completely disappeared. I can't imagine someone like that; he's even worse than Nick Fury."

"Perhaps you can be a little more optimistic. After all, as long as the agents haven't been contaminated, they won't die. Maybe none of them will, and the mages are just making a fuss," Stark said dismissively. He tried to comfort Rogers, but unfortunately, not everyone could accept this explanation, not even himself.

"Some of the people I'm seeing now may never be seen again. They'll die at the hands of strangers, and they did nothing!" Captain Rogers stared intently at the group disappearing on the other side of the passage. "I will remember this moment forever! Salomon's behavior has changed so much. At first, the most outrageous thing he did was some harmless little curses, but now he can sacrifice other people's lives without even blinking an eye."

Tony Stark blinked. "What do you mean? Could it be that you...?"

Nick Fury, who was eavesdropping on the conversation, had a blank expression, but anyone could tell what emotion his expression was conveying.

"It seems many people misunderstand Salomon. I think the 'Little Curse' is the method Salomon uses when he can't actually act because of his commandments," Nick Fury said to Victoria Hand, who was sitting behind her desk. "Although Salomon deleted his part before Agent Romanoff released the S.H.I.E.L.D. files, I still remember the result of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first formal contact with him. Only the captains of the two special operations teams survived, and now they can only lie in bed drinking juice."

"What else do you have to say before I throw you off the Sky Carrier?" Agent Hand didn't look up, continuing to process the documents. She knew Nick Fury was extremely cunning and would never speak without reason.

"It was my fault for letting Hydra infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D., V. But I'm also glad you found a job here. Salomon and I are the same kind of people, and I don't think you'll feel any discomfort in that organization."

"Don't use nicknames, Fury," Victoria Hand chuckled coldly. "You're trying to get clues about that organization out of me. Didn't Agent Romanov leave you a single crumb?"

"The current Romanov agent is not a spy, but a soldier, and I don't think it's necessary to bother her with this matter."

"So, Agent Romanov is no longer working for you." Agent Hand rarely smiled. "I think the best way to deal with the King of Spies is to keep quiet, because I don't think I can fool you. It's just that now there's another, better option that's never existed before."

"I can walk by myself." Nick Fury raised his hands in surrender and got off the chair.

"There's one more thing."

"What?"

"Please restrain Agent Coulson's behavior," Agent Hand said. "He's become a vigilante instead of an agent, his mission efficiency is extremely low, and he's causing unnecessary casualties. He's doing this just to consider the feelings of his team members, which is a serious violation of the principles of an agent."

"I regret Gonzalez's sacrifice, but Agent Coulson is now the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I have no authority to order him around."

"Come on, Nick Fury. I can't eliminate Coulson's team within the monarch's time limit, but if they don't improve, I'll handle it my own way."
