Chapter 751 Doubts and the Beginning of the Mission
Chapter 751 Doubts and the Beginning of the Mission (First Update)
Before Natasha Romanoff even began her mission, she had already expressed doubts. She approached, bringing with her the scents of shower gel and shampoo, hot tea, and butter biscuits. "Trinity? I've never heard of that organization!" she exclaimed. "It's not in the S.H.I.E.L.D. files. Is it some kind of Hydra?"
"There's a lot that S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't know! In fact, S.H.I.E.L.D. has barely touched the surface before facing a counterattack from underwater." The sorcerer curled his lip in disdain. He was quite willing to tell her about Kamar-Taj's 1,500 years of observations of the mortal world, provided that Natasha let go of her preconceived notion that "S.H.I.E.L.D. knows everything."
Throughout Kamar-Taj's long history, the secular agents of the Supreme Sanctuary inevitably clashed and cooperated with certain groups in economic matters. This is an extremely long and fascinating story, with even the secular agents forming secret societies based on families. Regardless of changes in the members of these secret societies, their primary purpose was to provide Kamar-Taj with resources and manpower.
In secular families, sorcerers are addressed with honorifics such as angels or superiors. Talented children from these families join Kamar-Taj for training, completely detached from worldly affairs. This phenomenon is called "Ascension," much like the Black Stone ritual of the Malik family—a method to solidify family consensus. Similarly, sorcerer apprentices who ascend from secular families to Kamar-Taj form the initial sorcerer families, but the relationship ends there. Without a decree from a higher authority, sorcerers don't show much concern for their bloodlines, as their pursuits are fundamentally different, and they have little in common.
The development of those secular families provided Salomon with valuable experience for the purge, as several families had attempted to establish independence after viewing Kamar-Taj as a legend. Kamar-Taj generally tolerated such actions, but if any secular family tried to tamper with Kamar-Taj's secrets, the mystical families of Kamar-Taj would step in and eliminate them.
"Hydra, Freemasonry, Illuminati, and the Knights Templar are all the same type of secret society, typical of business alliances. At that time, there were still nobles and monarchs in the world, and kings in various places issued orders to prohibit secret societies, but with little effect."
Salomon adopted a lecture-like posture, tirelessly helping the agents trace centuries-old business alliances. Natasha chuckled, finding Salomon's pretentious expression with his glasses on quite adorable, especially the round frames that made his face appear even more childlike.
"The only thing capable of stopping the profit-seeking nature of capital is an authoritarian government. Therefore, for their own benefit and long-term survival, secret societies conspired to overthrow monarchies. These organizations made extremely important contributions to the world's transition from feudalism to capitalism. You can find the shadows of these societies among the signatories of a series of important documents such as the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights during the French Revolution. Even in Germany during World War II, the Rothschild family, a Jewish family, remained standing not because of Hitler's leniency. Therefore, even organizations like Hydra have had a positive impact on the world. We should view these secret societies with a dialectical and historical materialist perspective; at least they liberated productive forces from inbreeding."
"You've already subdued part of Hydra, so why not continue?"
The round, vintage-style glass lenses reflected the flash of light from the silent television, and Natasha was almost mesmerized by his eyes.
"Because these secret societies' mission to this world has ended. When they begin to covet the invisible monarchy, their fate is to be swept into the dustbin of history." Natasha sensed bloodshed in Salomon's shrewd reply.
Perhaps those secret societies rejected his recruitment (it's almost certain they absolutely refused if he actually tried), or perhaps there was an irreconcilable conflict between them (Natasha's current intelligence prevents her from speculating), or perhaps Salomon was already planning for the post-war world (a possibility of up to 30%). In any case, Salomon was determined to destroy organizations like Trinity, because he believed such organizations would hinder his plans. She didn't mind carrying out this mission, because the sorcerer had already revealed to her what Hydra's existence represented; unless Salomon's plans were followed, Hydra would always exist in this world.
She suddenly felt a sense of disorientation and instinctively guessed that things were not so simple.
She realized she had never asked Salomon what he was willing to do to save her race, and whenever she thought about it, her attention was always diverted by other matters the arcane mage brought up. A bitter premonition rippled through her; she felt Salomon's ability to manipulate minds might be far beyond her imagination—recalling her own attitude towards the Immortal City. From worry to surveillance, from suspicion to acceptance, until she agreed to join the Immortal City, all the psychological shifts seemed to have happened imperceptibly. When she began to examine herself, she began to suspect the power of magic. Yet she also thought that if Salomon wanted to use mind-controlling magic on her, he wouldn't have waited until now; he had always been patient with her, tirelessly explaining his beliefs and actions.
"All along, the Immortal City's operations have only destroyed Trinity's armed forces, but if we can't cut off the organization's funding, they can buy mercenaries and heavy weaponry with money. So I need you to infiltrate Langley's server room to steal data—MI5 is unnecessary, it's practically a spy hub—to help the intelligence department sort out the internal relationships of the Trinity financial group. As long as we can guide the Immortal City, we can launch a rapid strike against the real key figures, not just the surface-level managers, and completely eliminate the organization physically."
She even joked with Salomon that his behavior was practically that of a modern-day Philip IV. Salomon, however, acknowledged Philip IV's achievements and compared the current situation to his eastward expansion. He believed the shrewd maneuvering of this accomplished French king against Pope Boniface VIII was well worth studying.
"Of course, this is just a small task."
The sorcerer's voice seemed to echo within the cockpit, resonating with the white shockwaves whistling outside the tempered glass. "Your value is worth a million corpses. Do not let this mission cost you your life. I need you to pass on your skills, knowledge, and passion." Natasha wanted to shrug, but the seatbelt in the Quinjet's cockpit restrained her movements.
The fighter jet gradually slowed down, like a black dagger piercing the sky. Natasha gradually regained consciousness, finding the sky growing deeper and darker, the sunlight fading from her face, and starlight piercing the cold void and reaching her retinas. The time from takeoff to liftoff was extremely short, and her armor's life support system ensured she wouldn't perish. The Quinjet followed its pre-programmed route, tracing a graceful arc. At the same time, another black aircraft followed the Quinjet's path perfectly. It silently followed behind the Quinjet, just like its several passengers, unnoticed by anyone—they had only one mission: to ensure Natasha Romanov's survival, even if it meant sacrificing their own lives if necessary.
