Marvel Magic Case Files
Chapter 796 Entering the Battle
Chapter 796 Engaging in Battle (Second Update)
A mid-ranking Exia appeared, sprinting across the Williamsburg Bridge. Neat rails were flattened by an unseen force, concrete was pulverized. The historic bridge began to sway, steel cables groaned and snapped, the freed wires shooting out at incredible speeds, whipping through the air with a dangerous whistling sound.
A sudden hurricane shook the bridge, and almost all the passengers felt fear, fleeing towards the cars ahead. The subway began to accelerate, and Bayonetta and Jeanne stood on the last car, waiting for the monster to approach. The deformed monster had a huge arm, an inverted jug-shaped body that could barely be called a body, and a face as expressionless as a marble sculpture.
The witches are very familiar with that identical face; they have hunted many creatures with that face.
This time is no exception.
A headless mid-level angel wielding a greatsword swiftly swept across the Ister River and hurled the greatsword at the witch.
A blinding golden light flashed and disappeared in an instant, and a figure clad in golden armor appeared in mid-air, then plummeted wildly, trailing two streaks of azure flame, to meet the greatsword flying towards the witch. Salomon's longsword was pitifully small compared to the angel's greatsword; he swung it like a baseball bat, like a knight challenging a windmill. With a violent sonic boom, the greatsword accelerated back at a speed imperceptible to the naked eye, the swirling blade creating a white torrent across the East River.
The headless cherubim was struck squarely by his own greatsword. Before he could even utter a cry of pain, his porcelain-like body shattered instantly, like a blood bag suddenly flattened. A torrent of rosemary-scented blood gushed out from the impact, exploding into a thick cloud of blood mist. As if belatedly realizing what had happened, the cherubim's face, embedded in the greatsword, screamed in agony. The greatsword, along with the cherub's heavy body, tumbled a few times on the Ister River before struggling to sink, transforming into a speck of golden light. To ordinary people, the splashing water crashing against the bank resembled a torrential downpour.
Salomon didn't linger. He had already used a short teleportation once, but there was no time left for him to chant a spell.
With the combined power of his jetpack and flight spell, he flew straight through the broken steel cables of the Williamsburg Bridge at speeds comparable to a fifth-generation fighter jet, catching up with the Exusiai chasing the subway and the witch on the bridge. The monster's deformed, long hand cut deep into the carriage, tearing through steel. Taking advantage of the witch's distraction while she fired, Salomon swung his longsword and severed the knee of the Exusiai named "Faith" with his scorching holy sword.
Exusiai instantly lost her balance and tumbled to the ground, rolling like a mountain on the tracks, almost crushing the fleeing subway car and the witch standing on top of it. The sorcerer quickly chanted a short incantation, making the tumbling Exusiai float up, and then used her shoulder armor to knock away the monster that had almost destroyed the bridge.
"Greetings, ladies. How was the hunt?" he called out, waving from the twisted track, his voice carrying the heat and the smell of fuel.
"That was my prey, you fool!" Joan of Arc jumped and hopped on the last, wrecked subway car as it receded into the distance, cursing Salomon for stealing her prize. Salomon, however, merely shrugged and gestured that Joan was too far away to hear him. This only enraged the white-haired witch, making her look like a tiny white-haired figure flailing about—utterly comical. Salomon laughed, but his smile vanished quickly.
A massive cloud of steam rose from the river, its immense size relentlessly blocking out the sunlight. He donned his helmet amidst the thick steam, the detection system piercing the fog to display the enemy's silhouette on the helmet's screen. The feeding system activated, automatically loading the composite plasma large-caliber explosive gun suspended beneath his left arm armor with a crisp "click," the bullet, engraved with deadly runes, awaiting firing.
This won't be a tough battle; he's killed things that are even harder to kill than this.
"Thirty seconds," he said. This time was no exception.
Almost all the Sisterhood members capable of fighting were deployed, their armed personnel adorned with steel wings for enhanced mobility. The assault and heavy firepower squads were led by Catherine and Aura, these two most trusted androids who, acting on intelligence provided by Kamar-Taj, hunted down lower-tier angels scattered throughout the city. Now, residing in the shallow ethereal plane, the Sisterhood could finally see their enemies clearly and punish those false angels with their weapons. They chanted battle prayers aloud, incense burners adorning their waists, their coordination seamless and their efficiency astounding, maximizing the use of longswords, explosives, plasma, and lasers.
Constantine was equally efficient.
The Royal Guard's armor can also be equipped with a flight system, but due to their size and the complexity of their armor, which far exceeds the force-feedback powered armor of the androids, the Royal Guard's flight system is equally massive and complex. This was the first time Wanda had witnessed the Royal Guard's combat prowess. The halberd equipped with a bomb gun was swung at a speed that ordinary people could not see. Almost no lower-tier angel could survive for more than ten seconds against him. She believed that even the Hulk of the Avengers might perish under such a terrifying attack.
Constantine swept away all the angels he could see like a hurricane.
"Follow me." Constantine's voice came through Wanda's earpiece via the encrypted communication system. After saying that, he jumped off the New York Times building, his crimson robe billowing like wings. Constantine activated his jetpack in the gale, plunged his lightning-fast halberd into the back of a centaur angel, and pounced on a mid-ranking angel flying in another direction.
Wanda quickly jumped down.
Although she was wearing force-feedback powered armor, it didn't prevent her from casting spells to make herself fly. Moreover, she had already obtained the staff; without the force-feedback armor, she might not even have been able to lift this extravagant weapon.
The silver-plated serpent skull atop the snake-bone staff was encircled by a heavy steel ring, surrounded by metal spikes arranged in a cross shape. As she grasped the staff's heavy metal shaft, the serpent skull's eye sockets instantly glowed crimson—this was definitely not the skull of a serpent, nor the skull of an earthly creature, but the skull of some kind of magical creature resembling a snake. But Wanda didn't have time to ask more before the sorcerer Daniel sent her to the battlefield to join Constantine in a cleanup operation.
She looked eastward with a worried expression.
She could hear a terrifying wail coming from the Williamsburg Bridge to the east; she knew her teacher was fighting there. Ordinary people might only hear the sound of the Williamsburg Bridge's cables snapping and the roar like a raging river, but Wanda, in the shallow ethereal plane, could feel an extreme, intermittent pain emanating from that direction, an emotion that vanished without a trace.
Wanda finally breathed a sigh of relief; she felt that if this continued, she would go insane from the torment.
"Ms. Maximov!" Wanda awoke with a start, Constantine's voice pulling her back to reality. She quickly brandished her staff, firing several crimson bandages. The bandages tightly gripped the leg of a lower-order angel. Constantine seized the opportunity to change course, his jetpack spewing out scorching cones of flame, while the Royal Guard wielded their halberds, the tips slicing into the angel's back. The angel cried out in pain, and Constantine pulled the trigger without hesitation. The high-explosive ammunition detonated at close range, completely pulverizing the angel's body.
Constantine's electromagnetic shield flickered frequently with electricity. "Please concentrate, Ms. Maximov."
"I'm sorry, I will. Do we really not need to go help?" Wanda said apologetically, but her gaze remained fixed on the east. There, flashes of light and flames erupted, and the air was thick with the stench of ionization.
"Since the monarch's order is for us to wipe out the lower three angels, then we will do so unless he changes his order or our lives are in danger."
"And now?"
"He's handling it with ease!"
