Chapter 798 Angel's Blood

Chapter 798 Angel's Blood (Second Update)

Bayonetta had just brutally killed the last Archangel, splattering blood and flesh beneath the angel's porcelain skin across the ground. Though the blood quickly evaporated into golden specks, the scent of rosemary still clung to her hair, almost overpowering the Diamond Lily perfume she wore. She plunged her longsword into the angel's marble face, crushing the gold ornaments adorning its armor with her high heels. "The little boy said he wanted to go to heaven?" she asked. "Did he say he needed our help?"

"I don't think that thing can stump him." Joan of Arc rotated her wrist, easing the soreness from taking the attack from the Archangel. "When have you ever worried about him like a mother? I remember that's Miranda's job. Your little boy is crying in heaven; are you going to go feed him?"

Bayonetta laughed. "When did you become so irritable, Joan of Arc?"

"Perhaps it all started when I didn't cut off that Exusiai's head," Jeanne sighed. "Thank goodness we didn't take his foolish advice. If we had used the bomb gun, I would have suffered more than just soft tissue contusions."

The serpentine angel's head was nearly ten meters tall, its exposed, sharp metal fangs perfectly aligned, reflecting the sunlight above the clouds. Its elegant, streamlined body was covered in jewels and halos, and its geometric metal wings and the clock on its head, inlaid with rubies and intricate patterns, all highlighted the creature's perfection.

This was a colossal creature; compared to it, Salomon was like a newborn kitten. Yet, the high-ranking angel, upon seeing him, retreated frantically as if encountering its natural enemy, attempting to escape Salomon's pursuit. The only real threat came from the few mid-ranking angels accompanying the high-ranking angel. Salomon's jetpack spewed scorching cone-shaped flames, propelling him towards the serpentine high-ranking angel. At least five mid-ranking angels and numerous low-ranking angels stepped forward to stop him, but against Salomon, whose stigmata had been unlocked, and his increasingly gleaming holy sword, even the mid-ranking angels couldn't hold out for long.

"Stop!" The higher angels possessed sufficient intelligence to engage in dialogue and thought.

The serpentine high angel's face was located below its head, like a cobra. Like a cobra, it also raised its upper body, flapping its deformed little wings and golden claws. Regardless of its appearance or the urgency of the situation, the high angel's voice remained quiet and peaceful, carrying a sense of tranquility and sublimity, even accompanied by a soaring chorus of hymns from the void. When Salomon pierced through the porcelain-white skin and crimson flesh of the mid-level and lower angels, bursting through the clouds with the scent of rosemary, the high angel immediately cried out.

"We can talk. We just want Amber's witch!"

Salomon responded with a barrage of explosives.

Unlike the explosives used by others, the warheads he used were all alchemical products he crafted himself. The engraved runes enhanced his accuracy, and the alloy materials used in those warheads contained trace amounts of vibranium. Under the effect of the high explosives, the warheads could even drill a tiny penetrating wound into the body of a high-ranking angel, creating a cavity effect and wreaking havoc on its internal organs. Although the high-ranking angel would heal quickly, even if the high-ranking angel possessed resistance to elemental attacks, the pain inflicted by the enchanted explosives was not so easily dispelled. Moreover, each warhead that struck the serpentine high-ranking angel would erupt with flames and lightning, and the bone powder of the black magic creatures was highly poisonous to beings from the higher planes.

Similarly, he also possesses explosive bullets made with metals from higher planes, which he can replace as needed. If the witches didn't dislike the crudeness of explosive guns, he would even like to replace their weapons with these sturdy and durable ones. If the alchemical materials weren't so expensive, he would also like to replace the bullets of all the armed personnel in the Immortal City with these bullets.

The jet engine faithfully performed its duty, propelling Salomon like a shooting star as it crashed into the marble face of the superior angel.

Did you see that?

"Of course I saw it." Bayonetta, while crushing a small angel, stood on tiptoe and looked across the riverbank towards Midtown. No one could ignore the enormous figure that had descended from the sky. The witches' eyesight and magic made it even clearer, including the blood spurting from the high-ranking angel. The blood dispersed into the air like a light rain, and residents of Brooklyn and Queens were surprised to find themselves suddenly smelling a strong scent of rosemary. If someone were to compare the temperatures of Manhattan and Brooklyn, they would find that the temperature in some parts of Brooklyn was at least two degrees Celsius higher, all because the high-ranking angel was bleeding continuously.

"You will pay the price for the actions of you disgusting creatures!"

Salomon swung his sword again and again, methodically using the blade and explosions to slice through the flesh and blood of the high-ranking angel, peeling away skin and muscle. He occasionally activated his jetpack to dodge the angel's massive metal claws, letting them tear through his porcelain-like skin and gold-inlaid blood-red armor, which were comparable to high-strength alloys. He was covered in the rosemary-scented blood of the angel, which then evaporated into golden specks. He, too, radiated light; the combined effect of his blazing holy sword and blazing holy marks allowed him to leisurely and slowly kill the high-ranking angel, deeply implanting the concept of pain into its soul, even though he knew this high-ranking angel would never be resurrected, never ever to descend into the real world.

Some lucky or unlucky individuals, showered with the blood of angels before it even evaporates, will find their chronic illnesses and injuries suddenly cured, while others who were previously healthy will inexplicably develop cancer due to uncontrolled cell proliferation. The latter is harder to detect, but the former, such as the blind regaining their sight or the lame becoming healthy, is more obvious. Soon after, some more devout individuals will claim to have received divine revelation, to "save America, restore Protestant order, and eliminate homosexuals, Black people, and Mexican stowaways," or "destroy America, restore Protestant order, and eliminate homosexuals, Black people, and Mexican stowaways."

The difference between the two is actually not that big.

But that's a story for later. Right now, those future popes are scrambling for their lives, because the witches' battleground has moved from Williamsburg to Green Point. This area is predominantly inhabited by Polish immigrants, and it boasts numerous restaurants, bars, and live music venues, but not many high-rise buildings; instead, it's filled with warehouses rented by impoverished artists.

This gave the witches room to unleash their power.

"Looks like he did a good job." Bayonetta turned sharply and fired a shot behind her. The bullet struck a high-ranking cherub in the marbled face. Not long ago, angels of the same type had attempted to attack the witch, but Salomon had killed them with his own greatsword. The witch was pleased that such opponents weren't completely wiped out; if Salomon had killed all the high-ranking angels, how could she continue being a cowgirl at night?

Just as the Archangel charged forward wielding his greatsword, a giant arm woven and summoned from black hair suddenly swung forward with a punch. Lady Butterfly, Bayonetta's contracted demon, eagerly urged Bayonetta to summon her again, but the witch habitually ignored this urging.

"Now it's our turn to work."
