Chapter 804
Chapter 804 The Projector (Second Update)
The creature conversing with the man in the golden mask could barely be called human. Except for its human-like limbs and head, the rest of its body was encased in a diamond-shaped blue material that reflected light, resembled a gemstone, and was edged with gold, making it look utterly comical. Its human-like face bore a kind of inhuman expression; if the masked man knew how to describe it, it would be the "uncanny valley effect," a concept completely foreign to him. This wasn't due to ignorance; on the contrary, he was remarkably knowledgeable.
The masked man made no comment on the thing's attire, because he knew how powerful it was. He couldn't even resist it.
"You shouldn't pay attention to that person, sage."
The sage, wearing a golden mask, remained impassive, gripping a gilded spear inlaid with amethyst, a symbol of honesty and reason. He suppressed his inner rage. "We are partners, Prophet."
"We are indeed in a cooperative relationship, but if you want to achieve your goal, you must follow my orders." The blue thing opened its mouth angrily. It was unwilling to tell the sage just how terrifying the magic of the man in the golden armor was; it was unwilling to waste its power on investigating someone's information. But it could not show weakness, because its cooperative relationship with the sage was not very solid, and it had already paid a considerable price to use the sage.
"But your target isn't the man, it's the boy!" it said. "Only by stopping the boy from approaching the sacred mountain, or simply killing him, can you save your lover. Anyone who stands in your way must die. Remember, you only have one chance!"
"I understand," the sage said.
--------
"You want to go to Finnbowent?" Bayonetta asked. "May I ask why?"
"No." The boy sipped his hot tea, stubbornly sticking to his decision. Although the hot drink softened his stance slightly, he still refused to reveal everything. Salomon rolled his eyes and offered Bayonetta a suggestion.
"This kid is obviously no ordinary person. That means his soul is incredibly resilient and can withstand repeated spells," he said. "Let's just dig out the information and throw it into the real world. Anyway, a kid like him going to places like Finnbowent, which are full of enemies, is just asking for death."
"Ha! You've finally revealed your cruel nature, big guy!" the boy mocked fearlessly. "Is violence the only way you can achieve your goals?"
"So violence works well, especially after I peel the skin off your back, then you'll tell me everything," Salomon said with a laugh. "I'm in a hurry, I need your information. You still have a choice, kid, you'd better choose the one that keeps you alive."
The boy exhaled sharply through his nostrils. "Anyway, I'm going to Finnbowent anyway, you can give it a try!"
"Alright!" Bayonetta gently tapped Salomon's head. She stood up from the bench. "Since you say you know how to bypass the angels' defenses and enter Finnbowent, then we can make a deal. We'll escort you to Finnbowent, and you need to show us the way. We're going to the passage to Hell."
"Hell? You actually want to go to a place like that!" The boy took another sip of hot tea. "Have you gotten yourself into some terrible mess? Anyway, once you get to the top of the mountain, you can choose to go up or down, it's none of my business."
"So, you want to go up?" Salomon squinted his eyes with amusement. "What's your relationship with those angels?"
"This is none of your business!" the boy jumped up from the bench. "You cunning fellow! I'm never saying anything you want to know again!"
"Too late, you've already told me everything!" Salomon pointed to his head. "Your mind is completely unguarded, just like that open purse you stole two days ago. You have no idea why you wanted to go to Finnbowent; you just wanted to go. Snotty brat, you're quite the bluffer!"
"You... how can you be so childish!" The boy's face turned bright red with anger. He pulled out a deep blue card. "I'm not some defenseless little kid, everyone! Want to test my abilities?"
Faced with the provocation, Salomon pressed the muzzle of his explosive gun against the boy's head and then performed an American-style iaido. Bayonetta watched with a smile as the boy and Salomon argued, the scene appearing perfectly harmonious. However, this was merely a facade; in reality, Bayonetta and Salomon were communicating internally, ensuring their conversation remained unseen by outsiders.
"Have you found out where it came from?" the witch asked.
"The summit of Mount Finnbowent," Salomon replied. "A very powerful divination spell. I couldn't trace the monitor back without attracting attention. Also, the magic that was monitoring us has a very similar power to the magic on that card. This child is definitely connected to the whole conspiracy."
"Then let's go to Finnbowent first. I don't believe the mastermind behind this will be able to wait."
"Take this child with you. His desire to go to Finnbowent stems from intuition. I don't know why, but he might be able to offer some help," Salomon cautioned. "Before that, I must gauge his stance. I'll arrange this, and I hope you won't object."
"What are you planning to do?"
"I plan to..."
Salomon ended the telepathic call. He said to the boy, "The sun is about to set, and we're in a hurry. Since you say you can take us to the Holy Mountain, then lead the way. By the way, what's your name? What, Loki? I know a guy named Loki, and I beat him up pretty badly last time. Are you sure you want that as your name?"
What happened next was entirely within Salomon's expectations.
He had a little boy named Loki lead the way, while he and Bayonetta followed behind, heading towards the place Loki had pointed out called "Waterfall Church." It was the tallest building in Noah'dorn town. Although called a church, it had no statues or symbols. According to Loki, the church had been used in the past to hold ceremonies to worship the holy mountain. At the church's spire was a magical device that could construct a "Bridge to Heaven," teleporting the user to the mountainside of Mount Finnbowent—information a boy with only a few months of memories shouldn't have known. But suddenly, the boy clutched his head and screamed in pain. Then, blurry images appeared before him; the witches and sorcerers observing could see certain scenes within those images.
After the pain subsided slightly, the boy told Bayonetta and Salomon the news.
"I think this kid's true nature is a projector," Salomon remarked mercilessly. "He was probably looking for film reels just now."
"Darling~"
"Alright, alright, you snotty brat, take some painkillers. No OxyContin, that's mine! I won't get addicted. If you take it, you'll have to spend some time in rehab."
