Chapter 818 The Reason for Cruelty
Chapter 818 The Cruel Reason (Second Update)
Most angels couldn't catch him, and the few who did manage to approach the arcane mage were vaporized into scattered golden specks of light within the vast, layered shadows cast by the holy mountain. Salomon, dragging the golden aura of evaporating angel corpses and the magical flames erupting from his own holy marks, hurtled down at breakneck speed, his jet engine propelling him to catch up with the masked sage standing on the ruins of the Bridge to Heaven. His fiery soul radiated a temperature hot enough to vaporize steel. The two men met, fueled by icy hatred. There was no boasting, no empty words; when the distance between them shrank to the point where weapons could reach, they immediately began a battle inaccessible to mortals.
The masked sage wielded a spear broken in two, using it as both a longsword and a shortsword, displaying remarkable agility in combat.
This time, he showed no mercy. He knew that if he harbored the same contempt and compassion he had shown in the battle at Noah'dune, he would surely die at this man's hands. Kamar-Taj, the World Watcher's adversary, both friend and foe. Although both monitored outer dimensions, their motivations were completely different. Kamar-Taj had far more enemies, its lineage didn't rely on bloodlines, and its growth was extremely rapid. The masked sage was certain this man was a disciple of the Sorcerer Supreme. Only the Sorcerer Supreme could cultivate such a powerful warrior, and only his disciple could inherit this holy sword.
Before that incident, the sage might have been curious about why this man's soul burned so fiercely, but now he only wanted revenge, and this man was the obstacle to his vengeance. The holy sword and two short spears flashed like lightning; each clash of weapons was like a miniature supernova explosion, the brief flash illuminating the gloomy, snow-covered valley. Even without witnessing it firsthand, one could feel the aftershocks of this brutal, downward-falling struggle.
"My Lord!" On the assault transport ship, the Sisterhood assault team had regrouped. The situation was dire, as the assault team wasn't entirely composed of androids; a small number of ordinary girls who had undergone military training and religious education had also joined Catherine's ranks. In this chaotic battle where the numbers were overwhelmingly disparate, their ammunition was far less than the enemy's, and many girls had suffered injuries of varying degrees. Even Catherine herself had a blade pierce her thigh. Through the open ramp hatch, she watched Salomon dive into the deep shadow cast by Mount Finnbowent, and then she screamed in terror.
However, there was no response on the communication channel; only silence.
Anger and terror filled her heart; she didn't even realize that tears were already streaming down her face. Ignoring her injuries and her companions' pleas, she stepped through the dried blood-stained boot tracks and jumped once more off the ramp of the assault transport ship, using the remaining fuel in the steel wing module to dive down. Faced with this reckless act, the android piloting the assault transport ship was extremely anxious. However, just as she was about to pilot the assault transport ship to protect Catherine, she heard a cry of alarm coming from the Sisterhood's communication channel, and she felt a chill run down her spine.
Almost all the androids shared the same feeling; whether it was Tita in the Sky Carrier's command center or Dinah in New York, they all looked towards Mount Finnbowent. The androids were called "my daughters" by Salomon, and even though they were born from the Aether, they could indeed share the soul power from Salomon. On the assault transport ship, the Sisterhood members who still possessed combat capabilities jumped off with Catherine, completely disregarding whether the flight functions of the Steel Wings modules were intact.
As they witnessed Catherine's figure overlap with the last crimson rays of the setting sun beside Mount Finnbowent, the steel wings, which their mechanical structure wouldn't allow to extend, began to grow into a pair of enormous wings, as if alive. With the aid of electronic eyes, many girls could even clearly see the individual feathers on those wings. The girls felt a sense of disorientation; Catherine's blurry figure seemed to truly possess wings, and they faintly heard a high-pitched humming in their ears. In an instant, the sorority's communication channels were flooded with devout prayers, and even the pilots felt the fervor—not all girls were truly convinced of the sorority's faith; for those human girls who had never seen Salomon, doubts lingered. But after witnessing the ugly creature with angelic wings and a halo, and after seeing Catherine's figure, all their doubts vanished.
Catherine was completely unaware of her own transformation; she hadn't even considered why her steel wing modules could still fly. She had already discarded her helmet to avoid the constant alarms from her power armor interfering with her battle. She unleashed a terrifying killing intent, charging towards the Temperance angel, crippled by Lady Butterfly, the greatest obstacle blocking her path and preventing her from rescuing her monarch. She dropped her explosive pistol, brandishing her longsword as she charged, destroying her enemy with pure violence and rage. Before the colossal body of the Quadruple Virtue Angel, the diminutive Catherine was less than a mosaic of stained glass on its surface. Yet, the Temperance angel reacted instantly. Dragging its bloodied, broken body, it met the radiant Catherine, but the angel's porcelain-skinned body was pierced directly by the golden light emanating from Catherine, and the homunculus was slammed into the dark shadows beneath Mount Finnbowent like a golden spear dropped from the sky.
“We must speed things up,” Dita said. However, Mordo remained noncommittal to the “suggestion” from the Sisterhood. To persuade the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj, Dita could only offer her own assessment. “I believe the Monarch is in grave danger,” she said. “We homunculus beings are born from the soul of our Lord, our connection to him is unimaginably strong; we are the Monarch’s daughters. We feel the stellar heat emanating from his soul—this is abnormal, he is fighting desperately! He needs us! We were born for this, sorcerers of Kamar-Taj! We need a portal to send these three ships there, even if it risks being shot down!”
"I know," Mordo said indifferently, his attitude infuriating the Sisterhood members on the bridge. Before Tita could object, Mordo continued, "It's not that I wasn't aware of his condition. The reflection of his soul in the Sea of Souls is far more powerful than anyone imagines. What you're seeing is merely a vessel named Salomon Damonet. Furthermore, your monarch is habitually lazy and unwilling to unleash his full power, which is why he needs training. Do you understand? Well, it seems I can only explain it to you in simpler terms… This is an order from the Sorcerer Supreme. The Sorcerer Supreme wants Salomon to unleash his true power and confront his true nature."
"We know what a monarch is!"
“Yes, he knows it too, but he won’t admit it because he’s running away,” Mordo said. “The Venerable One gave him plenty of time to enjoy life… It was a bit busy, but it was still mortal life, and he enjoyed it. That’s why he created you, the Royal Guard, the Immortal City, and relied on your power to achieve that ideal. However, he must face himself, even if he doesn’t admit it, he needs this power to deal with other threats in the universe.”
Why did you do this?
"Isn't the reason that he is the future ruler enough?"
