Chapter 823 Retro Tactics

Chapter 823 Retro Tactics (First Update)

Salomon immediately realized the connection between the man who called himself a prophet and the boy.

The boy has two symmetrical triangular marks on his forehead, while the prophet has two triangles joined together to form a rhombus on his forehead; the device on the waterfall church has two symmetrical triangular marks, while the floor tiles here have a rhombus pattern device, but it cannot be activated due to years of disrepair; apart from that, the prophet is exactly the same as the boy in terms of hair color and eye color.

Therefore, when the boy claimed to have remembered who he was, Salomon pretty much knew his identity. However, neither the boy nor the arcane mage had time to stop and explore the mysteries of time, nor could they offer a thorough critique of the self-proclaimed prophet's taste in clothing. Perhaps the boy was ashamed to discuss the topic, given how truly appalling the man's taste was.

Following the boy's directions, the sorcerer first tossed him into a portal atop the ruins of a building floating on a vast sea of purple clouds. He then stood at the portal's entrance, waiting for Bayonetta, before diving in himself after the witch entered. The masked sage and the prophet followed closely behind, determined not to let the boy out of their sight.

The prophet eagerly stepped into the portal, where he was greeted by a burst of dazzling plasma.

The plasma, hotter than a star, slammed into the prophet's face—or more precisely, into his protective magic, just a hair's breadth from his skin. His reaction was quick enough, but even so, the prophet was badly hurt. When he reopened his nearly burned eyes, he found that the despicable Kamar-Taj sorcerer had already stepped into the next portal, a scorching plasma weapon hanging from his thigh.

This thing didn't exist before; it's clearly a weapon summoned by a sorcerer using magic.

That damn guy even gave him a smug smile before he ran away!

The prophet was furious with the sorcerer who had deceived him. Seeing the boy pointing the way for the witch and the sorcerer, he knew the boy had recalled many things. The prophet resolved to silence the boy.

"Where are they?" the masked sage asked in a deep voice as he stepped through the portal.

The prophet pointed in a direction; this time, he intended for the sage to go first. The sage, his eyes behind the mask glancing at the prophet, then silently walked in. The prophet followed, watching with smug satisfaction as the sage frantically evaded the plasma. "We cannot fail again, sage," the prophet said, "or you will never achieve your revenge."

The masked sage remained silent, then plunged into the next portal.

Clearly, Salomon wasn't solely focused on escaping; he had set traps at both the portal's entrance and exit. From dimensional pits concealed by illusions to makeshift hunting traps using only a rope and a grenade, from magically summoned pools of acid to small landmines made from a few explosive bombs, while these wouldn't cause fatal damage, they could at least slow them down. Many of the less-than-useful spells he'd learned from the Kamar-Taj Library also came in handy; anything that could be used to slow down the Prophet and Sage was employed.

He had tried to close the portal, but both the prophet and the sage were spellcasters, and given the time constraints, he couldn't set up a powerful sealing spell, so it wasn't very effective. In fact, after realizing this path was blocked, the sage and prophet simply entered another portal, eventually blocking his and the witch's path. If the boy hadn't found another portal to the Gates of Hell, he and the sage might have had to fight again.

The chase ended with the finish line being reached.

"My mission is complete." The boy shrugged. "I still have things to do in Finnbowent, so I'll be going now!"

"Don't even think about leaving, you snotty brat," Salomon said in a deep voice. He gripped the boy's shoulders tightly. "We need to save another witch's soul, but only you can solve the final problem. Don't play dumb; you've remembered who you are, and you know what the final problem we face is. Whether it's the sages or the prophets, their target is you, and you can't defeat either of them."

"Spare me, isn't our cooperation over?" The boy rolled his eyes. "I'm confident I won't get caught."

"That won't do. Whether it's out of responsibility as an adult or because of your crucial role in this whole affair, I disagree with this approach." The sorcerer glanced at Bayonetta. "The witch disagrees too. Until we resolve the matter of Hell, your safety is the responsibility of me and the witch. You rebellious brat, there's no room for negotiation on this."

Perhaps it was the chaotic temporal arrangement of the planes, stacked together like soap bubbles, or perhaps the sorcerer's trap truly worked, but the boy had time to cast a spell to open this lower-dimensional portal, monitored by the witches. This gate, crafted from black bones, stood atop the ruins, its endless, sticky malice licking at anyone who approached. As the gates of hell opened a crack, a powerful suction swept in from behind, seemingly drawing in the vast, deep purple sea of clouds below. A massive tornado, like tentacles, extended upwards from below, finally filling the gate.

Just as the gates of hell were about to close, the sage and the prophet emerged from the previous portal. They only saw golden armor shimmering within the deep purple mist. Before the prophet could even offer a word, the sage, without hesitation, plunged into the endless abyss beyond, completely disregarding the terrifying prospect that awaited him.

The sky carrier and sky battleship slowly passed through the sparkling portal; to ordinary people, these three sky behemoths seemed to have become invisible after being enveloped in sparks. Victoria Hand was on edge; this was the first time she and her intelligence department had participated in such a significant magical operation. Her mission was to control the reconnaissance drones of the sky battleships Cross Rose and Golden Lily. Everything was proceeding according to the orders Salomon had left on the chain of command. The sky carrier launched dozens of assault transport craft fully loaded with armed personnel, heading straight for Mount Finnbowent. The Sisterhood and the intelligence department's special operations teams would each control key nodes on Mount Finnbowent, deploying anti-aircraft firepower to cooperate with the sky battleships in annihilating any extradimensional creatures appearing there.

Baron Mordo also participated in the operation as an advisor.

This time, he not only had to oversee the operations in the Immortal City, but also to draft a report for submission. He wanted to demonstrate that the existence of the Immortal City could reduce the mission pressure on Kamar-Taj, thereby silencing those old fogies who were dissatisfied with Salomon's establishment of a secular organization. This was an order from the Sorcerer Supreme, so Mordo took it very seriously. He wasn't the only one involved in this mission on Kamar-Taj; several arcane families closely associated with Salomon were also involved. For example, the young sorcerer was currently in the town of Noah'dorn waiting for fighter jets armed with tactical nuclear weapons.

The broadside guns of HMS Cross Rose fired the first shot, accurately shredding a group of angels hurtling towards the assault transports from the summit of Mount Finnbowent into mincemeat. HMS Golden Lily then followed suit, and as in naval battles of World War II, the battleships' broadside guns opened fire in rapid succession, providing cover for the assault transports as they reached the mountainside of Finnbowent. Those assault transports that had already completed their mission began to cut through the angel horde, using the gunboats' firepower to concentrate and eliminate the enemy.

This is a contest between technology and extra-latitude creatures.
