Chapter 824 The Power of Technology

Chapter 824 The Power of Technology (Second Update)

This was a battle Salomon had longed for, and it was also his original vision for building an immortal city.

The only regrettable thing is that he doesn't have time to watch this small war now.

He had always longed to use human technology and wisdom to combat extradimensional beings, rather than venturing into dangerous magic like Kamar-Taj, risking everything before even engaging with the extradimensional world. This is why the selection of arcane apprentices is exceptionally rigorous, to prevent recruited apprentices from turning against humanity. Even though the number of members in Kamar-Taj's school is already quite large for Earth's magical world, it is still far from enough to address the extradimensional threats facing the entire world.

Every shot fired from the bombardment guns on Mount Finnbowent, every missile launched, every battleship shell fired was the result of his years of hard work. He wanted to prove to Kamar-Taj, to the Sorcerer Supreme, and even to himself, that outer dimensions were not indispensable to the entire human race. Kamar-Taj was merely a baby carriage for humanity; sooner or later, Kamar-Taj would end its own mission, and humanity would stand alone at the pinnacle of the galaxy.

A large number of angels gathered on the snow-capped peaks, forcing the Immortal City to push its battle lines up to the mountainside.

The higher angels, and even the Quadruple Angels, had attempted to push back the Immortal City's offensive, but under the relentless bombardment of the two sky battleships, even the Quadruple Angels had to remain cautious. The intelligence department erected numerous anti-aircraft guns, anti-aircraft missile turrets, and Wakanda anti-aircraft laser towers on the mountainside, operated by ordinary human soldiers clad in dark black bulletproof armor. Sophia, from the Lost City, led her people and recruited soldiers to dig trenches and construct fortifications. These soldiers wore lightweight exoskeleton powered armor, wielding heavy explosive guns and plasma weapons, as well as other experimental individual weapons manufactured and produced by Wakanda.

Parts of the Sisterhood's heavy firepower squads and assault teams formed several mobile defensive lines, weaving between positions to eliminate any angels attempting to breach the defensive network and destroy the anti-aircraft positions via teleportation. Other Sisterhood members coordinated with assault transport ships, attempting to advance towards the summit of Mount Finnbowent. However, the Sisterhood's offensive was not fierce; several times they deliberately abandoned key mountain passes, retreating back to their positions before the angels could counterattack, allowing the anti-aircraft fire to inflict casualties on the angels. This was not because they didn't want revenge, but because their mission, besides killing lower and mid-ranking angels, was to cover the assassination squad's infiltration of Mount Finnbowent to gather intelligence for command.

Even now, the situation at the summit of Mount Finnbowent remains shrouded in mystery. Even with bunker buster bombs mounted on the assault transport ships, their use is precarious to avoid landslides and casualties. Intelligence must coordinate with the assassination squad's infiltrators to ascertain the geological structure and summit conditions of Mount Finnbowent. Until then, the situation is at a stalemate, with neither the angels nor the Immortal City willing to advance any further.

Even the mage Xiao Wang, far away in the town of Noah'duen, felt the ground beneath his feet tremble. The town of Noah'duen, shrouded in darkness, was once again illuminated by the continuous flashes of light from the weapons, as if day had returned. This was still a sporadic offensive before the final battle; neither the sky battleships nor the sky carriers had yet used their full strength, and the Immortal City had not yet committed to all its war preparations.

The young mage, Xiao Wang, who had never personally experienced modern human warfare technology, and a group of other proud young sorcerers felt a sense of physical fear. In particular, when they saw the giant tanks produced by the Immortal City rumble through the narrow streets of Noah'dun Town, their tracks easily crushing historic houses and statues, some of the young sorcerers who thought they were superior because they had learned magic were speechless.

Master Wang finally understood why the Supreme Master had allowed these rookies who had just left the training grounds to participate in this mission.

He had a good relationship with Salomon, and being a member of a family of arcane mages, he knew more information. For example, at this very moment, an armed force on Mars was ready to deploy. If the war in the Immortal City on Earth went poorly, the mage Hamil would use a portal to Mars to unleash this trump card. No one knew what kind of technology Salomon had hidden on Mars, so much so that even the Sorcerer Supreme had to keep it secret and even participate in it, using highly confidential contracts and magic to cover up all traces. The young mage sincerely hoped that the situation wouldn't escalate to that extreme; anything that could make the Sorcerer Supreme willingly break his commandments must be extremely terrifying.

Victoria Hand bit her lip, her eyes fixed on the holographic projection command table.

Her intelligence department was still awaiting a report from the geological institute acquired by the Ministry of the Interior. In truth, she preferred to conduct reconnaissance of Mount Finnbowent using armed satellites (not some silly weapon like the Rod of God) before fully understanding the situation, or simply destroy the mountain with a tactical nuclear weapon. Whatever plot the enemy was plotting on the summit, a single tactical nuclear weapon could solve the problem. However, before that, her monarch had to emerge from Mount Finnbowent—for the armed personnel still on board, especially the Imperial Guard, the mission was far less important than the monarch's. If she issued such an irresponsible order regarding the monarch's safety, she would be met with a bomb or a sharp halberd.

However, even under these circumstances, she still has some tasks to complete.

"Report the wind direction," she asked. After receiving confirmation, the head of intelligence issued orders: "Prepare to release poison gas. Order frontline soldiers to observe the damage the gas inflicts on extradimensional creatures." For the Immortal City, international biological weapons conventions were as worthless as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. To kill these creatures not of this world, any weapon available would be used. Whether these weapons would cause irreparable damage to the town of Noah'dune was a completely foreign concept to Victoria Hand.

Let's take out the enemy first, and deal with the rest later.

Salomon sighed, his face, hidden behind his helmet, filled with worry. He looked around but couldn't see Bayonetta or the boy; he had fallen behind as he entered the Gates of Hell, and the chaotic dimensional shifts had once again separated him from the witch. The environment here was extremely harsh: drought, high temperatures, and distant, colossal crimson tornadoes whipping sand and gravel that constantly eroded the rocks. Abnormal gravity affected every stone, and all sorts of repulsive lower-dimensional creatures lurked in unseen corners. "Good evening, Rodan," he said, pointing to a dent in his armor plating, "Are you here to provide repair services?"

"I'm just finishing a piece of work," Rodin tossed the sorcerer a cigar. The cigar contained herbs Rodin had added, and Salomon gladly accepted the gift. The fallen angel craftsman said, "Are you looking for Bayonetta? Don't worry, she's found the demon who captured Joan of Arc's soul, so she's gone ahead."

"Did you see a boy?" Salomon gestured near his thigh. "About this tall."

"No." Rodin waved his hand. "Beunita asked me to wait for you here and show you the way. I don't know why she's worried you won't survive here, given your powerful abilities. If you don't show up soon, I'll have to leave. If I miss this opportunity, this work will never be completed."

"Take me there," Salomon said. "I just hope Bayonetta goes easy on me."

Rodin flashed a smile that could scare hundreds of children to tears. "Me too."
