Marvel Magic Case Files
Chapter 827 Unexpected
Chapter 827 Unexpected (First Update)
"You have more important things to do now, there's no need to pay attention to this freak," Rodin said, pointing to Joan of Arc's soul. After confirming that the fallen angel craftsman had no intention of causing trouble, Bayonetta quickly placed Joan of Arc's silver pocket watch into her soul, restoring the witch's magic to her. After a long while, Joan of Arc slowly opened her eyes. Although she was only in a soul state, her expression still showed that she was not in good condition.
"You've never liked waking up early, have you?"
"Ceresa? You came here... to save me? Are you crazy?"
"You recited my lines." Bayonetta reached out and pulled Jeanne up from her spirit form. In this spiritual world, spirits, like flesh and blood, were tangible entities. "Let's go, I have things to do!"
"What's going on?" Joan of Arc clearly didn't know what the starlight slowly rising from her body was.
“You need to return to your body.” Bayonetta pointed to the pocket watch on Joan of Arc’s chest. The watch was now imbued with layers of arcane magic, some of which began to activate upon contact with Joan’s soul. “Salomon is nearby too. Remember to thank him when we get back; he searched high and low in the Kamar-Taj library for ages before finding this magic.”
"If I remember," Joan of Arc scoffed. But then she changed her tone, adopting a concerned expression. "Be careful, Ceresia. Some...some truly terrible things can happen in our world."
"I understand. Go back now, and don't stop or look back on the way," Bayonetta said. "Unless you're absolutely certain you're back in reality, don't eat anything anyone gives you, including pomegranate seeds." [A reference to Persephone, the Greek queen of the underworld]
"I'm not a child!" Joan of Arc shouted angrily, waving her fist fiercely.
No matter how much she struggled, the magic attached to the silver pocket watch continued to operate, pulling her into her own body in the real world. Madame Butterfly disappeared after Bayonetta completed her mission; she simply waved to Bayonetta, indicating she had enjoyed the fight and wished she could have killed that bald fallen angel as well. Now that Joan of Arc's soul had been retrieved, Madame Styx was to escort her back to the real world according to the contract. Moreover, the message from Salomon was somewhat important, and Madame Styx also wanted to visit her old friend in the real world.
With the most important task completed, the witch breathed a sigh of relief.
Rodan's bar sells food and drinks to ordinary people, and weapons for armed individuals. When spellcasters from the Deep World patronize the establishment, magical weapons become the sole commodity. Expensive, exquisite, and powerful. These weapons, forged by his own hand, possess immense power, but few know the details of their creation.
Bayonetta witnessed firsthand how Rodin manipulated the little contraption in his hand to devour the soul and flesh of the thorny mass. Once Lady Thorn was completely consumed by the weapon, the purple gem encased in crimson steel petals on the hilt glowed. The female demon had now become the weapon's source of magic and means of attack; presumably, other weapons were crafted in the same way, such as the giant chainsaw sword still in the hands of the little maid, Dinah. Thanks to Rodin's unparalleled forging skills, the devoured soul could not transmit its malevolent intent to the user.
Rodin pointed to the outside of the large floating island of Madame Thorn, which was covered by red and black thorns.
Since Salomon went there, the commotion has grown increasingly intense. Flames and lightning frequently illuminate the gloomy sky and the small floating islands concealing numerous skeletons. It's clear that the battle there is extremely fierce. Even the Thorn Floating Island, a hundred kilometers away from the battleground, can feel the ferocious killing intent emanating from it. Rodan believes that Salomon has already activated his Stigmata within the safe threshold. That thing is extremely conspicuous to all extradimensional beings—regardless of whether they have eyes or not. If this continues, all the beings in the entire plane will gather there, and even the most powerful beings will not be able to withstand such a threat.
Rodin didn't want to get into this trouble; he was now just a craftsman focused on making weapons, and his hobby came first.
"They need you over there." The fallen angel craftsman tossed the weapon to Bayonetta, saying meaningfully, "But don't forget your new toy. You can buy it on credit; I'm sure you'll earn enough currency to pay for it during the upcoming battles."
"Where did you get these new weapons, sir?"
The sage refused to answer the question.
The sage's mask had been completely shattered by Salomon, and his grey eyes, identical to Bayonetta's, were fixed on the sorcerer's face. Salomon swiftly tucked the boy behind his shroud, dodging the sage's lightning-fast spear strike. Seemingly having figured out the sage's attack patterns, Salomon's response this time was much easier. Compared to previous battles, Salomon used weapons other than the holy sword more frequently—such as elbows, knees, and shoulders—intending to compress the sage's space. Keeping the blade within three feet of his own body, he used rapid spins and slashes to reduce the opponent's advantage in weapon length.
He blocked the sage's path to attack the boy, while the boy happily took the scroll Salomon had given him.
The scroll Salomon gave him and his card were essentially the same thing, only the medium for the magic differed; the boy could use them even with his eyes closed. Without even looking, the boy began casting the spells copied on it, but these powerful spells weren't aimed at the sage, but rather at the lower-dimensional creatures who had come to join the fun.
"This place gives me a headache, worse than when I was dealing with your lackeys. But I've taken a super aspirin, so now I can give you a good beating." Salomon casually chopped off the head of a lower-dimensional creature. His tone was flippant, his attitude arrogant, seemingly indifferent to the battle, but the killing intent in his eyes was impossible to conceal. The blade that sliced through the foul air reflected his true attitude, and the violent magic and vicious curses erupting from his hand were an attempt to kill the sage. This kind of attitude was often seen in witches, and after spending a long time with them, the arcane mage had also learned to use arrogance to mask his true thoughts.
Just like the battle on the Bridge of Heaven, the Sage is going all out this time as well.
The thunderous roar of hooves thundered, and a colossal eight-legged horse with a blood-red sword on its head appeared out of thin air between Salomon and the sage. At the same time, a crimson whip lashed fiercely at the sage's weapon. Salomon was thankful he hadn't summoned Pegasus, for Bayonetta rode one of the fierce mares tamed by Heracles in Greek mythology—Pegasus's most hated creature. It had attacked Bayonetta's summoned mares more than once, and to appease it, the witch rarely summoned this beast in the mortal realm; only then would Pegasus be willing to take Bayonetta for a ride.
"Darling, you're too slow." Salomon simply shrugged at the witch's complaint.
"Isn't it better if you handle this kind of thing?"
The boy's face suddenly turned grim as Bayonetta approached. He shouted for the witch to stop, but Bayonetta ignored him. Both the witch and the sorcerer wanted to kill the sage here and end the feud on Sun Island. Then, something unexpected happened, something no one had anticipated, not even Salomon himself had foreseen such an outcome.
The mark on the boy's forehead suddenly burst forth with a blinding light, and the boy, the sage, and the witch vanished in the blink of an eye.
