Chapter 828 Mother and Daughter Reunion

Chapter 828 Mother and Daughter Reunion (Second Update)

"The Eyes of the World possess the ability to manipulate space and time, and both the Sages and Witches have crudely imitated their power. This is not incomprehensible; after all, for a long time, even the most skilled World Watchers have been unable to manipulate the power of the two Eyes of the World. The Witches and Sages must find another way to enhance their combat abilities." As the silver key he kept close to his body began to release its magic, Salomon recalled the Venerable's conclusion once more. The power emanating from the Sage, the Witch, and the boy resonated; the truth of the world, no matter what form it takes to manifest, will not change its essence.

Just as the sorcerer figured out what was going on, he saw Rodin standing in the distance waving at him.

Damn Rodin!

Salomon was certain Rodin knew everything about the boy, and Bayonetta's sudden entry into the battle was undoubtedly due to Rodin's persuasion. However, before the sorcerer could even use the Italian hand gesture he'd learned from the witch, the magic released by the silver key opened a dark purple rift behind him, swallowing the unresponsive Salomon whole. The fallen angel craftsman shrugged—the task given to him by the Sorcerer Supreme was complete, his work was finished, and it was time to return to the real world. As for why the Sorcerer Supreme would betray his own disciple, he couldn't even be bothered to think about it.

Salomon took a deep breath, silently chanted the incantation, and checked his condition.

He looked around and felt a strange sense of familiarity. The surroundings were dark but not cold; instead, they possessed a familiar grandeur, and he couldn't help but recall where he had seen this place before. He smelled a burning odor, and a faint commotion came from behind the moss-covered, rain-eroded black low wall where he stood. Although flailing his arms and legs with several pistols pointed at his head would be foolish and make him an easy target, Salomon still believed his helmet could stop the bullets.

"Who are you!" The woman leading the group, dressed in a black witch's traditional leather bodysuit, raised her hand and slammed the muzzle of her gun against the sorcerer's helmet. Salomon observed that the gold thread embroidered on the bodysuit was exquisitely detailed, far more intricate than that of the women behind her. Salomon had never studied the witch clan's crests and didn't know the meaning of these precious metal threads and gems, but he could still deduce that this woman was probably a mid-level commander. The woman wore a veil covering the lower half of her face, but her impatience was palpable. "Are you with the Sage?! Speak up, we don't have time!"

"He's wearing golden armor; he's definitely with the sage! Damn men, not a single one of them is any good!"

"Kill him! The Sage Clan has killed so many of our people!"

"He's so tall! Should we ask him to take off his helmet so we can see him?"

"This is not the time to choose a mate!" the leading woman snapped, turning back to hurl a curse, lest the adolescent youth veer off-topic. She stared intently at Salomon. "Don't make a move. Take your hands off your weapons. We don't have time to interrogate you now, so you must tell me who you are, or else…"

"I know you are fighting against the Sages and the beings of the higher planes," Salomon said in a deep voice. He followed instructions and made no threatening moves. "Ladies, don't be alarmed. I share a common enemy with you. I am looking for a Sage, and I am going to kill him."

The witch leading the group asked, "Who?"

"Bard," the sorcerer said, "I must kill him here. Tell me where he is!"

A shorter woman behind the team leader suddenly asked, "Is this person one of Rosa's admirers?"

"Shh, don't mention that name!" The witch leading the group warily eyed the sorcerer. She shouted, but the revolver in her hand lowered slightly. The witch clan had already lost much of their fighting strength in several defensive battles, and they had to conserve their power wherever possible. If this person was indeed an enemy of the sages as he claimed, then it was a good thing nonetheless; this unexpected reinforcement was only needed to kill the enemy.

"I don't care what your reasons are for wanting to kill Baldr, the sage who caused all of this, but you must come with us. We must monitor you until we're sure you're really as you say."

"I agree. Take me now, I can't wait."

Bayonetta landed on the ground on a shooting star.

"I know where I am, and I know what era this is." She reacted even faster than Salomon, having lived here before. Moreover, she had traveled through time more than once during her involvement in the events surrounding the Eye of the World; such experiences were quite commonplace. She strolled towards the fountain plaza, only to be attacked by lower-ranking angels. Before she could even retaliate, a barrage of bullets accurately struck the angels' heads as they lunged forward, their blood mingling with the rain like an explosion.

Bayonetta looked up and saw a woman in a black silk bodysuit calmly clearing out the lower-ranking angels near the fountain plaza. The woman's movements were unhurried, even showing off her skills by arranging her bullets in a neat row. Clearly, these angels were no match for her; almost all of them couldn't withstand a single round against her. Bayonetta knew this move too. Watching the angels surrounding her burst into brilliant sprays of blood, she immediately guessed who the woman was.

The woman possessed the same butterfly-rimmed glasses Bayonetta once had. Standing on the lamppost, she spoke to Bayonetta below, "We'll be overwhelmed soon. Gather everyone in the clock tower. We must hold out to the very end." Suddenly, the woman sensed something amiss with the witch's attire below. She jumped down, wading through the rain towards Bayonetta. "You are…"

She saw a face that looked almost exactly like her own.

With just one glance, the instinct of blood ties told her the other's identity. The clever witch immediately guessed the general reason Bayonetta was in this era: the Eye of the World was given to Bayonetta by her, and she was the previous holder of the Eye of the World. This was why she could actively cast the spell "Witch Time," as she used the power of the Eye of the World itself. However, the rude angels, completely oblivious to the atmosphere, interrupted her attempt to have a longer conversation. The witch of the past angrily fired several shots into the sky, and Bayonetta understood telepathically. Although she didn't explicitly state their relationship, Bayonetta quickly followed suit, mimicking her biological mother's actions.

Without needing many words, the two witches fought in exactly the same way and cooperated perfectly.

After dealing with the lower-ranking angels, the witches from the past and future looked up at the sky. From several enormous portals emerged living warships of intermediate-ranking Exorcists known as "Worship," followed closely by a Quadruple Virtue Angel, representing the element of fire, "Perseverance." Upon seeing the two witches in the fountain plaza, the two-headed dragon angel immediately swooped down towards them.

However, before it could crash down, the deafening noise of the jet engine attracted the attention of all intelligent beings.

Bayonetta saw a golden meteor fall straight down from the sky, piercing through the Quadrilateral Angel in one strike.

"Who is that?" The witch of the past chuckled softly. "I could hear your heartbeat."

"He's just my adopted son. I don't know how he got here," Bayonetta said casually, turning her head. "He did it on his own initiative; I didn't ask for anything."

"You actually blushed!"

"Okay, that's because he did well, in every aspect..."
