Chapter 831 Obtaining Eternal Sleep

Chapter 831 Obtaining Eternal Sleep (First Update)

Bayonetta had witnessed her mother's death more than once.

Yet, when faced with the temptation to change the past and alter established history, she remained remarkably calm. Even knowing she would repeatedly regret her decision in the future, she faced with astonishing willpower the unbearable psychological torment she inflicted upon herself from the depths of her heart, and the inevitable separation by death. She gazed longingly at Rosa walking ahead, but dared not tell her what was about to happen.

Rosa seemed to sense something as well, and remained silent about the future. As the previous holder of the Eye of the World, she naturally knew what this meant.

"I can't go with you." The arcane mage walked beside her. His voice was hoarse from dehydration, and his eyes were filled with fatigue. He had twice faced the strongest warriors in the history of the Sage race, and even these superhuman battles still left him feeling exhausted after he closed his stigmata. "I wasn't sent to this point in time by the Eye of the World, but by the Silver Key. I must return to our era in another way."

"I know," Bayonetta said. "Then can I ask you for a favor?"

"Yes, I don't think this will significantly disrupt history. I can do it." Salomon nodded, watching Rosa's retreating figure. Even without Bayonetta speaking, he knew what the witch wanted him to do. "No one will disturb her, I assure you. But I can't grant all witches such peace. Do you remember what we saw in that building?"

Salomon refers to the power supply devices discovered five hundred years later in the Isabelle Building.

The devices resembled the Iron Maidens, torture instruments with a long iron spike piercing straight up from the back into the chest. He then discovered that these Iron Maidens were filled with corpses; souls, flesh, and everything else became nourishment, continuously extracting magical blood from the remains to supply the magic needed five hundred years later to revive Jubilee and the eternal portal to the higher planes. It was conceivable that those corpses were those of witches who died in this war, even including the witch squad he had encountered earlier. They would all perish in this war; the only two survivors were Ceresia, later known as Bayonetta, and Joan of Arc, who had been brainwashed and captured by the sage.

Whether or not Rosa's remains are in the Isabelle Mansion on Sun Island, Salomon will stay until the very end to witness the demise of the witch race and bury Rosa in a place where no one will ever disturb her. This is a shared responsibility as both a sorcerer and a witch's companion. Salomon has already decided what to do.

"It's alright." Bayonetta squeezed his fingers. "Please make sure to hide her somewhere no one knows."

Rosa watched Salomon's departing figure, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. Before leaving, Salomon had given her a respectful bow, which made Rosa feel very good about him. Polite people are never disliked, especially one who was quite handsome. She glanced at Bayonetta, "Isn't your little lover coming with you?"

"He still has things to do." Bayonetta smiled, her previous worried expression completely gone. "After all, I'm a housewife, and the man has to take care of things outside."

"I don't believe you'll suddenly learn how to wash dishes properly, Ceresia." Rosa saw right through her. "He's such a sweetheart, isn't he? How did you find such an adorable little guy, capture his heart, keep him by your side, and make him put up with your temper?"

Bayonetta raised her voice triumphantly, her face, almost identical to her mother's, brimming with pride.

"You know, that's how witches always do things."

Salomon was heading in the exact opposite direction from the witch's tower that Bayonetta and Rosa were going to.

He activated his jet engine and flew towards the arena on the outskirts of the witches' stronghold, traversing a bottomless, fog-shrouded canyon. During his journey, he encountered attacks from angels and sages more than once, as well as attacks from unsuspecting witches and mobs wielding torches and farm tools. Incited by the angels, they launched a witch trial against the witch race. These fanatical, irrational individuals showed no fear of Salomon, even daring to brandish weapons at him. Aside from a few unlucky mobs who stood in his way and were crushed to pieces, Salomon paid no heed to the others, showing no interest whatsoever in firing his explosive guns at the fleeing ones.

He plummeted straight towards the circular arena outside the camp.

Five hundred years later, Bayonetta will face the four archangels of fire, [Perseverance], here, and then blast the entire arena into the sky. Although the arena remains intact, it has been abandoned and neglected by many, making it almost identical to its state before the battle five hundred years from now. He stands on the still-intact Roman-style wall of the circular arena, from which he can clearly see the burning buildings and deafening battle cries across the canyon; the billowing black smoke almost obscures the moon.

There was no one there; the grease in the black iron brazier coldly reflected the pale moonlight.

"Teacher, I'm here." As soon as the words were spoken, the light of a teleportation portal lit up in the gloomy forest.

"My future disciple, you must be my favorite, otherwise why would I give you the Holy Sword?" The Sorcerer Supreme of this era examined Salomon's Holy Sword sheathed with great interest. "What mission did my future self give you? Was it to observe the decline of the World Watchers? Or to cleanse all extradimensional beings that have come to this plane of reality?"

"The former is already finished, teacher. As for the latter, I believe it won't be long before it's finished," Salomon said. "What I want to know is the story of the Chaos God Asar, about where the immortal soul went after the Chaos God split into two parts. And... how can I completely kill these souls?"

"You want to kill an immortal being, is that it?"

"This is your target? A boy?" Victoria Hand stood before the hospital bed in the infirmary. She grinned, annoyed. "I didn't expect you to intercept intelligence communications and then meddle in the search team's work. I thought your modifications were to make you better suited for combat, Constantine!"

"Unless the monarch directly orders me to join the battle, none of this is my duty." Constantine was not angered by Victoria Hand's sarcastic remarks, but slowly explained, as if the halberd in his hand was there to reason.

“This boy is important. He was captured on camera by the Monarch's power armor's electronic eye system, along with his unusual behavior. The Monarch flagged him, which is why I was able to see him.” He pointed to the boy lying on the hospital bed, sedated, and the busy medical staff. “This boy must be under our control, no matter what. The medical staff have begun contacting the biological laboratory to analyze the DNA samples taken from him. When will the Kamar-Taj sorcerers arrive? I need them to examine this boy's soul.”
