Chapter 832 The Supreme Mage with Divine Strategies
Chapter 832 The Supreme Mage with Divine Strategies (Second Update)
"You are the immortal one, my disciple. Do you truly wish to understand the method of killing yourself?"
“I have to do this, Master,” Salomon said. “The separation of Asar’s soul from the Chaos God has created even more instability. I don’t know why He initially shared His power with humanity, but now it seems the separated souls have caused even more chaos.”
The Sorcerer Supreme of this era nodded and took out the Eye of Agamotto.
"The Eye of Agamotto, or the Time Stone, allows the user to see the secrets of time. Do you know what else it can be used for—that's right, to communicate with your past self across all timelines. It seems my future self has taught you well. In other words, I can know your intentions and what will happen in the future, but I don't want to do that, my future disciple. Not because I want to be lazy, but because the time loop is a very delicate task that cannot be based on subjective judgment; it must be adjusted in conjunction with the circumstances of other timelines. We still have time to slowly show me what will happen in the future, and at the same time, I will teach you how to clarify the timelines. I think you haven't taken this lesson yet, have you?"
"Yes, teacher."
"Then our task now is to be observers." The Venerable One changed the subject. "But the future is yours, so you decide. After you decide, you must bear the consequences, even if those consequences betray everything you've done. Even if you destroy the entire galaxy, it doesn't matter, because I'll be retired by then and can't interfere with anything." Salomon was quite familiar with the Venerable One's smile; it was clearly him envisioning retirement. "Anyway, let's begin the lesson and look at those clues you haven't seen before."
The Time Stone's function is to display timelines, showing a past, a present, and countless futures. Salomon told the Venerable One the time Bayonetta had told him—the time of Rosa's death—and the Venerable One activated the Eye of Agamotto, allowing Salomon to see exactly what had happened. However, because this event had not yet occurred, the scene of Rosa's death has many variations: Rosa standing under the Moon Dome, the dead Rosa lying in Baldur's arms, or Rosa and Baldur both still alive, back to back facing something.
As time ticked by, the future revealed by the Eye of Agamotto gradually became clearer.
Salomon scrolled through the images displayed on the Time Stone like a progress bar in a video player, repeatedly watching the scene of Rosa's death. However, the images were like a video with skipped frames; one moment Rosa was alive, and the next she was lying dying in Baldr's arms.
"I didn't see who killed Rosa."
"This is the limitation of the Time Stone. Like a prophecy, it only knows the outcome but not whether one's own resistance is the cause. I believe you must have studied this knowledge," the Venerable said. "The Time Stone is not omnipotent, nor can it grant omniscience. It is merely a tool; the true source of wisdom lies within ourselves. Since an anomaly has occurred, can't we then conclude that some beings can obscure their presence on the timeline?"
"Asahi, the Chaos God, the Eye of the World." Salomon thought of something. "His power is so similar to that of the Time Stone."
"Yes, the Eye of the World can also perform some of the functions of the Time Stone." The Venerable nodded. "Don't be discouraged. Time will reveal the truth. We just need to wait patiently."
"I didn't know you liked to use puns. Oh? What's this?" Salomon pointed to a huge black shadow that flashed across the sky with a purple tail.
"Just combat mechs of the witch clan," the Venerable One said calmly.
These single-person combat mechs are powerful war machines of the witch race. Since this era lacked a systematic supply of alloy materials capable of supporting these mechs, they were all handcrafted alchemical creations by the witch race themselves, taking hundreds of years to slowly take shape and acquire combat capabilities. As expected, these combat mechs performed admirably, holding their own even against quaternary angels. Salomon watched as two black combat mechs soared into the sky, easily crushing the bodies of high-ranking angels and simultaneously destroying several angelic living battleships that were bombarding the witch's base.
Even when the combat mech faced the angel of wisdom, representing the water element, it held its own. Salomon saw the metal angel, resembling a giant lizard, being grabbed by the tail and flung away by the combat mech, smashing along the way a magnificent, six-winged angelic airship made of marble, gold, rubies, sapphires, and enamel—the superior six-winged angel of brilliance.
The size of the high-ranking Seraphim [Glory] is far greater than that of the mid-ranking Exorcists, the living battleship [Worship], and the living troop transport [Intimate Relationship], which also serve as aerial strike forces. Even during the attack on the witch's stronghold, Salomon never saw more than ten of these strategic weapons, the high-ranking Seraphim [Glory], in the sky.
Bayonetta excitedly jumped off her battle mech, overjoyed at the opportunity to fight alongside her mother.
The situation seemed to have reversed after the witches activated their combat mechs, with the sages who had previously driven the mob being slaughtered by the enraged witches. The scales of war had tipped in one direction, rather than the mutually destructive conflict Kamar-Taj had anticipated. The Venerable One extended his hand, gesturing for Salomon to continue watching. "I'm not in a hurry, Master," Salomon said, removing his helmet. Without the aid of the detection system and electronic eyes, distant scenes became blurry, and he couldn't make out who the pilots of the combat mechs were. "I know the outcome."
"Then how do you know if the timeline you live in has been altered?" The Sorcerer Supreme raised an eyebrow. "As far as I know, you and Bayonetta have already changed the past in the future."
"I'm speechless. This was your own decision."
"Can my future self represent my present self?" The Venerable One shook his head. "Can future decisions influence the present?"
"Teacher, this isn't philosophy class..."
"Philosophy in a broad sense can encompass both magic and science, so exploring metaphysical truths is not entirely useless; it can help you understand the current situation more quickly. In any case, this is a fixed timeline, including the past you have altered," the Venerable said. "Be patient; the unfolding events will surprise you."
"Take me to Finnbowent!" the boy yelled as he woke up, much to Constantine's bewilderment. Perhaps it was his golden power armor that made the blurry-eyed boy mistake him for Salomon, for the boy revealed his purpose without reservation. "I must stop another me, we are good and evil..." He produced a card, "This is the solution... Wait, who are you!"
Constantine looked down at the panicked boy.
"Calm down, child. I'm here to help you solve this." Perhaps it was the same Baroque-style golden power armor that reminded the boy of Salomon, and he relaxed slightly at Constantine's voice. "I am the monarch's royal guard, and I heard what you said," Constantine said. "But Finnbowent is currently sealed off; you can't get up there."
