Chapter 879 Special Goods and Last Visits

Chapter 879 Special Goods and a Last Visit (First Update)

As the weather warmed, a cargo ship slowly entered the harbor of Manhattan. On board were 40-foot standard containers, each with a carrying capacity of 26500 kilograms. Nijadaka eagerly jumped ashore after the ship docked; after so long at sea, he desperately missed land. Due to the special nature of the cargo, he couldn't relax like the sailors at the dockside bar or with prostitutes. He had to guard the cargo at all times, and besides, the two expressionless men who had come with him wouldn't allow him to wander around, because he was also part of the cargo.

One of the men had a scar on his face that ran from his throat to his eyebrow, cutting his white eyes in two. The other had short hair, a cold expression, and frequently took out his pistol to wipe it. Nijadaka knew these men were there to monitor him, but he didn't know their purpose. The Immortal City's orders to him were simply to go to New York and tell him that he would receive more orders upon arrival.

However, the voyage was not without its share of troubles. While the coast guard was out on missions to combat smuggling, several inexplicable murders occurred on board. On one occasion, a cook in the galley was found dead in his own pot; by the time he was discovered, his head had been boiled over, leaving no trace. Another time, a crew member caught an arm while fishing, and based on the tattoos, discovered the arm belonged to the first mate. Shortly after, the first mate was found dismembered in the toilet, his head missing. Fortunately, the captain was a seasoned smuggler, and the voyage was barely completed; anyone else would likely have abandoned ship long ago.

Nijadaka knew there was a deeper reason behind the order. Upon discovering that the lower lips of all the victims were unrecognizable, he immediately realized the mission might be related to Wakanda, a suspicion later confirmed by subsequent orders. He also occasionally overheard a very difficult-to-pronounce word in the conversations of the two men monitoring him; this word in ancient Latin meant "shadow of the monarch," but when he stepped out, the two immediately acted as if nothing had happened.

In any case, Nijadaka was happy to undertake the mission.

Regardless of the motives or intentions of the bigwigs in the Immortal City, this was an opportunity he had long dreamed of. He didn't mind using each other, and he believed he had the ability to step outside the game. If he had known that the so-called "Shadow of the Monarch" were actually assassins who had undergone physical modifications and brainwashing, he would have understood that the Immortal City had never truly trusted him, and his life was always hanging by a thread with the assassins' wrist blades (in fact, there were also poison needle pistols [1] and bone-breaking finger cots [2]). These assassins had even participated in the attack on the CIA headquarters in Langley, moving freely in one of the most secure locations in the United States. One assassin was enough to ensure that Nijadaka would kill him before he betrayed them.

Nijadaka could not possibly know this information; as long as the Immortal City was determined to keep it a secret, no one could find out.

Even the Wakanda agents on the ship were the same.

The heavy weapons in the container being unloaded at the Port of New York had been modified by the Immortal City; they could even put the National Guard to the test in New York City, provided Nijadaka could complete his mission. He landed in New York with the crate of weapons, where he was greeted by none other than Wilson Fisk—now a partner of Salomon. This batch of weapons, capable of waging war, had been loaded and unloaded through his channels and entered the East Coast. In return, one-tenth of the small arms in the shipment belonged to him. Although it was only one-tenth, it was already the highest single transaction in the history of the New York black market for firearms. Wilson Fisk agreed to the deal; he simply couldn't refuse such a huge profit and had no interest in the rest of the container. It wasn't a big deal for gangsters to possess small arms, but if they possessed a large quantity of heavy weapons capable of destroying buildings, waging war, and overthrowing governments, and then actually used them, then even the protection he had secured through bribery in the political arena wouldn't protect him.

Because this goes beyond what the government tacitly approves, even he wouldn't dare to do such a risky business.

"Come with us, we'll take you to a safe house." A man with tattoos on his head approached Nijadaka. The mercenary heard the roar of the car engine and glimpsed a burly figure squeezing into the black car behind the man. Nijadaka had already received a message from his contact, so it was understandable that Wilson Fisk hadn't spoken up; after all, he had already seen the shipment enter New York, and he would soon receive his share.

No written promises or oversight were needed; Salomon's reputation and power were the best guarantee. Wilson Fisk would be responsible for transporting the goods to the Immortal City's warehouse. He had to do everything in his power to ensure the shipment wouldn't be intercepted by the masked vigilantes of Hell's Kitchen; only then would he be qualified to proceed with the next deal. For this purpose, he specifically dispatched all of his armed men to participate in the transport. Although they had only met once, in Wilson Fisk's eyes, Salomon was more terrifying than the most ruthless gangsters. Facing Salomon, he felt like he had become that cowardly, chubby boy again, lacking the courage to defy his brutal father and protect his mother.

Everything is still in the planning stages, and Salomon has taken time out of his busy schedule.

He entered a small house on the outskirts of London without an appointment, carrying a bouquet of flowers. He had been here more than once, and he knew who lived in the house. He hadn't come for the Immortal City, Kamar-Taj, or for his own benefit; he was simply there to see someone off.

Peggy Carter's conscious time was dwindling, and Salomon had to use magic to rouse her from her coma. Medical equipment stood at the head of her bed, and the medical staff told Salomon that Peggy Carter's life force was extremely unstable during this period, and the less time he could visit her, the better. After completing all the formalities, Peggy Carter temporarily dismissed the medical staff from the room.

"White roses." She watched Salomon place the bouquet in the vase. "How much time do I have left?"

Am I a symbol of death?

"You're wearing mourning clothes." Peggy Carter's breath was as thin as paper. "I've actually seen you before, in 1943. But you weren't called that then. As always, death follows you wherever you appear, and now you're here. I'm dying, so some questions that have haunted me all my life should be answered. Who are you, Salomon Damonette? How old are you? What's your relationship with Dottie, the first Black Widow?"

"I think the person you know is me, but I don't know what happened in the past." After tidying up the vase, the sorcerer sat down on a chair next to the hospital bed. "It must be a product of a time loop, but to save some surprises, please don't explain. Where is Steve Rogers? You know who I'm referring to, Agent Carter. He's another reason I'm here."

[1] As the name suggests, it fires poison needles propelled by a projectile loaded with high-pressure gas. The wounds caused by the poison needles are almost invisible to the naked eye, and the potent poison can kill the target instantly. However, this equipment has a range of only ten meters, and the conditions for killing are so demanding that users need to undergo extensive modifications before they can aim at vital organs with the help of special equipment.

[2] A magically advanced weapon, embedded in the fingertip of an assassin. When the sharp nail blade pierces the target's body, the mysterious circuitry engraved on the blade instantly generates a violent curse that is inputted into the target's body. The bones near the victim's wound rotate clockwise around the wound caused by the nail blade and shatter into an arc. This is an experimental device that is not even recorded in the archives and therefore has not yet been widely deployed. However, because the targets usually die in extremely gruesome ways, it is often used by assassins to spread fear to achieve their goals.
