Chapter 894 Value
Chapter 894 Value (Second Update)
Salomon readily went into the kitchen to help. He smelled three different aromas emanating from the tomatoes, the pork rib juices, and the potatoes, sizzling in the flames, the cast-iron skillet, and the frying pan, respectively. There was also the rich, creamy scent of freshly added butter and the sweet aroma of mushrooms and cream. "Caroline… oh, you're here! You must have seen her before?" Kasirius, flustered with the various pots and pans, only realized it wasn't the blonde woman who entered when Salomon came in. The older sorcerer immediately smiled. "How about it? She was quite surprised when she knew you were coming!"
"She's very reserved, so Bayonetta and Jendla took her to chat. I figured they'd drink a bottle of red wine before dinner, so I stepped in to help." Salomon pointed to the charred tomato on the gas stove. "It's cooked just right now; any longer and the juice will evaporate."
"Oh!" Salomon's reminder seemed to bring Kasirius to his senses. He reached out to grab the tomato—Salomon had clearly seen that he hadn't cast a fire-repelling spell, so he immediately gasped, the tomato slipping from Kasirius's grasp. However, just as it was about to hit the ground, the tomato floated back up, its dark skin slowly torn away by an unseen force to reveal bright red flesh. "No wonder Caroline said I only cause trouble in the kitchen," the older sorcerer said with a laugh, waving his hand. "Luckily you came. Oh, the child didn't come, did he?"
Cassilios refers to Constantine.
The last time Salomon was here, his guards came to conduct a routine security reconnaissance after completing their mission before boarding their anti-gravity motorboats to carry out another task. Although Constantine tried his best to conceal himself, the optical camouflage cloak wasn't foolproof, especially since the terrain here wasn't complicated. He was spotted by a couple of busybodies standing outside Cassirios's apartment for a while—though Constantine didn't show any signs of being able to move at that time, so the lucky fellow mistook him for some kind of artwork. After Salomon left, Cassirios heard many neighbors mention that the golden steel statue he had moved to his door had not only broken the floor tiles but also blocked the passageway, keeping Cassirios busy for quite some time before calming down his neighbors. Now that he had received Salomon's negative reply, Kasirios breathed a slight sigh of relief—these were all ordinary people here. If Salomon had arrived in a heavily armed assault transport ship or with his own armed guards, it would have been of no benefit to Kasirios's secretive life.
“We’re going to visit that old man in a few days. I suggest you show him your abilities,” Cassirios said, flipping a steak in a cast-iron frying pan. “I mean, the abilities of the Immortal City aren’t yours. He knows your strength very well, so I suggest you show him another side of your power. That’s what he’ll appreciate most.”
"Why do this?" Salomon didn't turn around, but instead scrutinized the fries freshly pulled from the oil with a critical eye. He noticed that Kasiris must have forgotten to wash off the starch before throwing them in, resulting in a poorly fried batch. "Do you think that old man would be happy enough to give me something in return? When I tried to do something to Sif, that old man cast a spell that swept from Northern Europe to North America. I don't think he'd maintain a facade of friendliness if I did what you suggested."
"The end of the Aesir is near, and humanity will rise; this is the inevitable outcome. As the most crucial figure, you should demonstrate your magnanimity and show the Allfather that you can surpass the Aesir, completing the path they failed to traverse. You have no idea how many times the Allfather has tried to convey to the Venerable One through me that he would prefer a child like you; otherwise, he wouldn't have proposed the marriage alliance. Getting that proud old man to humble himself is no easy feat," the elder sorcerer said earnestly. "I heard you've recently been renovating the Sanctuary's dungeons? If you're ready to assume that position, you should possess the necessary bearing."
"But I always feel that this behavior is provocative."
“You don’t need to worry about this as long as Frigga is there,” Kasirius said, bringing a plate closer. He lowered his voice and said, “I discovered that among the supplies Frigga requested from Kamar-Taj were many very precious alchemical materials, coupled with the Vanir divine prophecy magic… I suspect she’s trying to buy time through other means. As time draws closer, the prophecy will become clearer, and something very, very terrible, something unexpected or unacceptable to them, must have been foretold by Frigga. Otherwise, given the Allfather’s proud nature, he wouldn’t accept such a negligible method of extending lifespan.”
"You mean..." Salomon didn't finish his sentence, because the woman in an apron approached, glancing inside every now and then as if she were still worried. Kasirius also temporarily interrupted the conversation, smiling broadly as he showed her the results of his and Salomon's cooking. The young sorcerer, with perfect understanding, hid the utterly disastrous plate of fries and a sea bass wrapped in a snow-white salt mountain in the oven. It wasn't until Bayonetta and Joan of Arc arrived that the suspiciously sniffing Jacob was taken away again. As she turned to leave, Salomon immediately retrieved the two completely failed dishes from the oven.
Kasirius coughed twice, feigning seriousness. "If the Allfathers believe you have the power to alter certain details of the apocalypse, we can understand why they did it," he said. "So I suggest you spend these next few days studying the art of negotiation."
"But I think it's more likely that the old man will try to use Gungnir to bring down the Sky Carrier," Salomon said very seriously. "I'm not kidding. Unless I test the Sky Carrier's lightning resistance first, I will absolutely not send it there. I will never waste my men's lives on meaningless things. If they are going to die, I want them to die meaningfully, not in a place where I'm not even sure of their safety, just to gain the approval of an old man who will die sooner or later! No matter what the future holds, the fate of the Aesir is sealed. Even if they don't meet their end, I will push them toward their demise."
Nearly twenty seconds of silence enveloped the kitchen, broken only by the sizzling of the steak and the bubbling of the fries in the pan. It wasn't until the oven gave a crisp pop that Cassirios broke the silence. "Okay, I apologize," he said. "I didn't realize you valued those people so much."
"I value everyone, Kasirius, even if it means creating a horrific massacre. The only difference between an ordinary person and a sorcerer lies in who can contribute more to humanity; there is no other measure. The brave are far more valuable than the cowardly, and the loyal are more worthy of respect than the traitors." Salomon shook his head. "But let's not talk about this anymore. The turkey is roasted; it's time to let the meat rest."
"Hey guys!" Ms. Jacob poked her head into the kitchen, looking a little embarrassed. "I heard the oven bell! Need any help?"
"No, we can do it!" Salomon quickly said.
Cassirios quickly nodded in agreement, "That's right, we'll be able to eat soon!"
