Chapter 903 Armed Negotiations
Chapter 903 Armed Negotiations (First Update)
Wanda carefully pushed open the door to the room in the New York Sanctuary and tiptoed inside.
The room was dark; the enormous sofa, like a monster crouching in the darkness, panted heavily. The air was thick with incense and various scents Wanda couldn't quite describe, save for the flickering light of the television and the exaggerated, insincere laughter from the show. The young witch moved to the side of the sofa, feeling as if she had entered an eerie room, where everything seemed to be watching her thoughts. The Lady of Calamity removed her mask, frantically pressing the remote control, seemingly unaware of Wanda's arrival—Salomon had left Wanda at the New York Sanctum to search for clues, opening a portal to her penthouse before leaving. However, Wanda didn't immediately go home; instead, she asked the sorcerer Daniel for directions to the Lady of Calamity's room. Reaching this place wasn't easy; the New York Sanctum had many rooms leading to unexpected and unimaginable locations, and a wrong turn could mean being lost forever and unable to return to the real world.
Because Wanda's mentor was Salomon, she was allowed to venture outside the Sanctuary Hall.
The flickering light from the television shrouded the face of the Lady of Calamity in a rapidly flashing, indistinct swirling light. In Wanda's second vision, the Lady of Calamity's face was blurred; whenever she instinctively tried to see clearly, all she saw was dazzling starlight, the magnificent wonders and radiation of the universe filling her field of vision.
The room suddenly lit up, startling Wanda, who instinctively looked for a place to hide.
"Are you here to hear secrets?" Lady Calamity turned to look at Wanda.
Her eyes were clearer than ever before; the mad fog had vanished without a trace, revealing the mysteries of countless stars within her pupils. Wanda, whose second vision hadn't yet shut down, didn't even have time to answer before collapsing onto the sofa, unable to withstand the pressure—it was an indescribable feeling, like having a high-voltage cable directly connected to the brain; the organs couldn't process, and were utterly incapable of processing, such chaotic and dangerous electrical signals. The Lady of Calamity seemed startled as well, nearly spilling her juice as Wanda's head landed squarely on her lap. However, she paused for a moment, then reached out and gently stroked Wanda's long hair.
Thankfully, I don't have a fever.
Ms. Calamity nodded in satisfaction and picked up the remote control to change channels again.
"Wanda's awake? No need to call me about that. Just send her through the portal." Salomon said, picking up the phone. A chocolate bar wrapped in foil floated past him, followed by a bag of gummies, a pen, and a bottle of ink. Last to float was a grey shorthair cat, its claws outstretched, slowly spinning. "The signal's bad here. We're in space, after all; normal communication is delayed. Cheshire Cat, don't grab the phone line!" He grabbed the cat's fluffy tail, and the grey shorthair let out a long meow. "Alright, old man, I'll do my best to find a way to lift your family's curse. But don't rush me. I only gave them this condition by having the Drum brothers act as guides once. I know you were behind it… Oh, so you know how to be embarrassed?"
Salomon hung up the phone because after his little scheme was exposed, the sorcerer Daniel immediately ran away from the phone. The two-headed snake that lived in the bonsai garden of the New York Sanctuary took his place—the same two-headed snake that flirted with everyone every day. Every temple sorcerer was annoyed by it, and Salomon was no exception.
While the Dram brothers' family curse and Laura Crawford's jungle adventure were both tasks he had to complete, it didn't mean he couldn't handle the work in the Immortal City. After breaking free from gravity, the Sky Carrier moved in a fixed direction. Since it was an aerospace vessel without a gravity-generating engine, all the furniture was firmly nailed to the floor, except for some smaller items. A large number of assault transports were escorting the Sky Carrier and Sky Battleship at a safe distance. Although assault transports weren't specifically designed for void warfare, they possessed considerable void navigation capabilities and maneuverability, making them ideal for escorting the Sky Carrier.
The reason he mobilized such a large force was to participate in negotiations, and these armed forces were his bargaining chips.
Because the other side wouldn't allow him to board their space station like that.
Tita was fully armed and eager for the impending conflict.
Clad in ceremonial armor and wielding a longsword forged by Salomon and a plasma pistol, she believed that if the other side refused again, she would use her weapons and her well-trained sorority militia to crush all defenses and seize the space station for her master. Salomon picked up the phone again and sent a message to the station's master: "Final warning. Open the landing hangar hatch, or I'll blow this space station to smithereens."
After a series of warnings (threats), the landing hatch of the space station slowly opened. Three heavily armed assault transport ships, painted in black and gold, filed in. After the hatch closed again and the air pressure stabilized, Salomon and Tita walked down the ramp hatch to face the armed personnel who were waiting for them.
"Fine, see you later, Nick Fury," the arcane mage said, arms crossed and expressionless. "Could you please move your little bugs? Do you think these weapons pose a threat to me?"
"What are you doing here, you little brat!" The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. looked like he was about to explode, but he still ordered the security forces to lower their guns because he knew Salomon was telling the truth. Even if the armed personnel in power armor behind Salomon didn't make a move, Salomon, dressed in a crimson robe of stigmata, could kill everyone here in an instant.
"This isn't the first time your spaceship has patrolled this area!"
"To prevent those green aliens from sneaking onto Earth." Salomon turned and gestured for the Sisterhood to unload their destination. Under Nick Fury's wary gaze, the Sisterhood tossed down a corpse preserved in armored glass as if it were trash. "You promised me, Nick Fury. The Skrulls would never be allowed to go to Earth," the arcane mage said, "but you haven't kept your promise."
The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. carefully examined the Skrull corpse. There was a massive wound on its chest and abdomen, seemingly caused by some kind of explosive, and also limbs that had been stitched up but were now shortened. He spoke to a human woman beside him while looking at Salomon. "This isn't one of ours," Nick Fury seemed to have confirmed through some means. "Where did you find him?"
"Use 'it,' Nick Fury." Salomon glanced at the human woman. "In the elevator at my base."
Even without using mind-reading spells, the woman displayed immense terror when Salomon's gaze turned to her. Though she concealed it well, Salomon was a spellcaster, reading an unsuspecting mind as easily as turning the page. This was a Skrull disguised as a human, very likely one of the many Skrulls Carol Danvers had rescued.
"If he's impersonating one of your people, you'd have no chance of noticing."
“Logically, that’s how it should be, because the Skrulls’ disguise is done at the genetic level. Before this, it disguised itself as a Mafia member, and then our people integrated the Mafia so it could infiltrate. However, it disguised itself as someone it shouldn’t have been to try to enter headquarters, and that was my Royal Guard,” Salomon said. “So this parasite went mad. If you dissect its brain, you’ll find it’s turned into a pulp. Let’s find a secluded place to talk. I need to know how many aliens you’ve secretly sent to Earth, and where they are now.”
