Chapter 913 Crimson Level
Chapter 913 Crimson Level (First Update)
"Perhaps you can tell me something," the Winter Soldier said to the man strapped to the chair. He knew the man's name, his family, his personality, and the profession he used to disguise himself as. Obtaining this information wouldn't be difficult; he needed to find the house before the assassin organization learned of the mission's failure and sent out the next team of assassins, and then question the neighbors by posing as someone from a delivery company. This man had been hiding here since the Hydra rebellion, but since his name was on the list, it proved he was an extremely important figure.
"I know you, Alexander Pierce's dog," the former Hydra agent, who had just been punched in the face, said coldly. "Whatever you want to know is none of my business. I'm retired. It's all over."
The Winter Soldier kicked away the children's building blocks at his feet; he knew how to conduct the interrogation. Everyone has weaknesses, especially those with families.
Stephanie took a break from her work, lifting her head from the pile of documents to stretch her neck and press the fast-forward button. The footage from the surveillance agent on the screen sped forward, stopping at a frame showing the Winter Soldier leaving the house. She didn't even need to put on her headphones to listen to what the listening device was recording to guess what had happened inside the house.
"I knew this would happen. A cold-blooded killer showing mercy when the cruelty was most needed. What a cheesy Hollywood plot. I suspect the Winter Soldier has been driven a little crazy by Alexander Pierce." She wrinkled her nose and set aside the video that had been sent along with the brief report.
"All beings are equal before death, but some need a little help," she said to her secretary (the college student who had accompanied her to the White House). "Bring back that agent's head and his wife and daughter. The latter two must live and not be too badly harmed, even if they harbor hatred. Punishment is for education; they must know why that man died. This is the law of my Lord. And another matter… Has Director Victoria Hand initiated the penitential process?"
"According to regulations, the intelligence department has the authority to operate independently, and you shouldn't know this..."
"I should know everything, otherwise how would I know if I shouldn't know!" Stephanie stared intently into her secretary's eyes until the recent college graduate could barely withstand the pressure. "We are the monarch's eyes and ears; we don't trust anyone! Besides, you're my subordinate, and I need you to oversee the intelligence department's reports! Dr. Lister has ceded many benefits to get you in here; I think he certainly doesn't want to see his granddaughter so foolish!" Stephanie took a deep breath, gritting her teeth and growling, "No one and nothing in this city can be kept from him, understand?"
"The intelligence department's administrative staff and the First Secret Group of Fimbulb Winter have indeed initiated a penitentiary process." The young female secretary stood ramrod straight, her eyes fixed straight ahead. Although Dr. Lister was a biologist in Dr. Whitehall's lineage, his power was far inferior to that of the Malik family. Not to mention that the Malik family was currently in charge of the Ministry of the Interior, and Lister was even allowed by the Malik family to manage the properties that originally belonged to Dr. Whitehall. Without this connection, she, a recent college graduate, would never have been able to become Stephanie's secretary.
"Special recruits have begun communication with prisoners with a Crimson Classification."
Crimson is the highest level of classified information. Above this level, the Black Secrets are known to no one except Stephanie, Constantine, Maya Hansen, and Malbus. Each of these Black Secrets is a secret that could affect the course of Earth and even the entire universe, such as the Celestial corpses transported to Mars and the Ultron artificial intelligence.
So far, there is only one Crimson-level prisoner in the Immortal City dungeon.
"What are you doing here?" Nick Fury was surprised, almost as shocked as when he first saw this high-tech underground city. He had long been prepared for torture, having witnessed and been deeply involved in the transfer, interrogation, and abuse of prisoners between illegal prisons around the world by the United States, but he hadn't expected the person who came to see him to be someone he knew. Nick Fury instantly drew upon his years of experience as a secret agent, and then he guessed quite a bit. Although there was no direct evidence, intelligence work is not a precise discipline; sometimes, speculation can serve as a basis for action.
"Why can't I be here?" the Punisher asked calmly.
"Before we begin, I have a question for you." Nick Friezeble's Winter Season 1 Secret Service soldier slowly rose to his feet under wary gaze. "Are you involved in the Langley attack?"
"I used some of these to find my enemies," the Punisher stated bluntly.
Although Salomon's recruitment attempt was largely unsuccessful, a more professional individual subsequently recruited him using a document Salomon had written. This person was Victoria Hand, who first recounted Frank Kassel's actions during his military service and the people his unit served, filling nearly ten pages of printed material. After this, while Frank Kassel didn't fully join the Immortal City, he could be assigned certain tasks aligned with his ideals, with the Immortal City handling the logistics. This not only saved manpower but also avoided being traced for directly handling dirty work.
"So, these are the people who attacked the CIA?" Nick Fury suddenly felt things were getting tricky. He hadn't expected Salomon to act so soon. Now it seemed the attack on the space station wasn't such a big deal. Salomon's extreme impatience back then was understandable; he definitely had other plans. If Salomon were here now, and could glean Nick Fury's thoughts, he might well praise the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The S.W.R. space station wasn't much to Immortal City now. Immortal City didn't lack an orbital armed platform; what it needed was manpower to operate a spaceship. Once Olympus Mons, the highest peak on Mars, was hollowed out and turned into a shipyard, Salomon could then have engineering ships begin constructing a large orbital armed platform.
"Now it's my turn to talk to you, Nick Fury." Frank Cassel closed the door. "We have a lot to talk about, including what happened after that. The master of this city is waiting for you to speak!"
In fact, Salomon was not in the Immortal City at the moment, but was spending his long-awaited time in the Kamar-Taj Library.
Beside him, every book was bound by chains enchanted with spells. If any other sorcerer were here, the librarian would have followed closely behind, ensuring no one touched a book without permission. However, Salomon possessed a slight privilege, not only because of the Venerable's favoritism (which had indeed caused resentment among other sorcerers), but also because some of his works were also bound by chains (after which the resentment disappeared), allowing him to borrow these books without needing permission.
The mage Daniel peeked over and left with great satisfaction, for he saw the list of books Salomon had recommended on his desk. These were books he had studied about curses, books he had worked on to lift the curse on the Drum family. However, Salomon wasn't reading them at the moment. The Drum family's curse was merely a minor task; for him, the Feathered Serpent God was paramount. Focusing too much on the curse would be putting the cart before the horse.
