Chapter 957 Wolf Pack Tactics

Chapter 957 Wolf Pack Tactics (First Update)

Constantine remained silent as always, but those around him were not so quiet.

After being released, Daisy Jensen acted as if she were in charge of the mission. After confirming that Wanda Maximoff was indeed sent by Salomon, she even picked up the backpack Constantine had rummaged through and proactively helped the Guardians organize the clues she had gathered. While doing so, she also interjected her opinions on the current state of S.H.I.E.L.D., even if Constantine didn't want to know. She repeatedly asked Constantine questions such as whether he had undergone bio-engineering, why he didn't join the Avengers, and why he addressed sorcerers as "masters," but the Guardians never answered a single one.

"The skinheads have all been killed by Robbie Reyes," Daisy Jensen added, providing further information she hadn't revealed before. Perhaps it was the presence of a familiar subordinate that made her somewhat relaxed, even though her relationship with this acquaintance wasn't exactly good. She believed that cooperation was possible given their shared interests; after all, both sides wanted to know where the skinheads had hidden the potentially world-destroying weapon. "I won't hold your methods against you, big guy," she patted Constantine's abdominal armor. "By the way, why is your power armor gold? I'm not saying it's ugly, but don't you think it's a bit ostentatious?"

"Our Lord's artistic talent is very high."

"That's the first thing you said after you let me go," Daisy Jensen said angrily. Constantine was immediately puzzled; he wondered if this woman had lost her mind. She got angry whether he spoke or not. "Since we're going to cooperate, you should provide me with some information. For example... do you know what the skinheads stole? I know you do, otherwise you wouldn't have come to Los Angeles. And Wanda Maximoff, with her abilities, she wouldn't have needed to come here for something trivial, would she?"

“You don’t have the authority.” Constantine put his helmet back on, the blood-red visors once again obscuring his eyes. He already knew where Robbie Reyes might be, and the location of the skinhead survivors. He had all the intelligence he needed to complete the mission; there was no need for him to stay any longer. “I never said I wanted to cooperate with you. Cooperation could cause unnecessary casualties because you don’t have the ability to obey orders,” he said. “My Lord won’t be as lenient with you as S.H.I.E.L.D., because this mission cannot afford to fail, do you understand? Anyone who tries to stop me from completing this mission will only have one fate. I don’t care what you’ve done, but if you cause a greater crisis, I will kill you without hesitation, even if my Lord spares your life.”

Salomon reached out and turned off the screen. He had always encouraged Constantine to think independently, even if it meant disobeying orders, as long as Constantine believed it was right. The fact that the Royal Guard could say such things gave him a sense of relief. "My dear, I'm afraid this is all you'll see," he said to Stephanie. "The next mission isn't suitable for too many people to know; after all, not everyone can resist that kind of mental pollution. For your health, and for the sake of the internal affairs department's official duties and logistical coordination, I suggest you have some tea and rest. Don't worry, if the Royal Guard clashes with Ghost Rider, you'll definitely see first-person combat."

"I've had enough." Stephanie rolled her eyes. "The part about the Imperial Guard raid almost made me throw up."

This data terminal receives the view from Constantine's electronic eye, also known as a first-person perspective. Although selective, viewers can still observe the mission's progress through Constantine's line of sight. This intuitive method is not without its drawbacks. Due to the sheer speed of the Royal Guard, when they attacked Daisy Jensen, Stephanie only saw a violent shaking and a blurry, rapidly flashing image.

In reality, the screen frame rate is more than sufficient; it's just that the average person's brain and eyes cannot process these images.

Even after watching the mission footage, Stephanie knew nothing about what weapon Constantine used against Daisy Jensen, or how he determined the target floor. It wasn't until Salomon explained the Royal Guard's combat strategy—using surprise attacks to catch the target off guard while simultaneously luring Daisy Jensen into using her powers. Then, they would confront the shockwave head-on, using a lab-made gravity weapon to push it back, and finally, follow the shockwave to attack Daisy Jensen, completing the mission of capturing the target with minimal damage.

Any fully armed soldier would find it difficult to deal with a superhuman like Daisy Jensen, and even Iron Man couldn't guarantee victory. However, for the Imperial Guard, even with her superpowers, Daisy Jensen lacked excellent combat skills. She didn't even use her powers on the floor immediately to make him fall, which gave Constantine the opportunity to subdue her.

Only then did Stephanie understand why her sovereign had instructed the Royal Guard to use melee weapons, rather than as firing platforms. Using only ranged weapons would be a waste of their powerful physique and advanced powered armor; only melee weapons capable of cutting through armor plates could unleash their terrifying violence. The Asgardians, through their superior physical abilities, mastery of melee weaponry, and extensive research into accelerating small manned vessels, successfully brought their intraplanetary ocean tactics to space and perfected them, making them a specialty of the Asgardian Void Fleet. No matter how powerful the enemy's warships were, once bitten by the endless pack of wolves in the Void, the Asgardians would leap in and dismantle the warship from within.

Many of the Immortal City's research projects were developed according to this idea. For example, airdrop pod technology and space torpedo technology were designed to rapidly transport troops onto enemy warships, dismantling their defenses and even seizing control of them at minimal cost. In Asgardian legends, the Allfather, when faced with boarding maneuvers, always led from the front, riding Sleipnir aboard enemy ships and wreaking havoc, winning victory after victory. According to Stephanie, Salomon did something similar, except back then he led a group of old, weak, and disabled space pirates; without doing so, they couldn't defeat anyone—even today, Salomon occasionally recounts his space adventures to Stephanie. He tells her how he ordered the semi-inorganic lifeforms to bathe the cat-people, how he led his group of interstellar idiots to rob various criminal monopolies in the galaxy, thus bringing advanced technology to the Immortal City.

However, to Stephanie, this story only revealed Salomon's recklessness and disregard for consequences. She couldn't imagine what use it would be for someone leading a war to charge into battle; she could only think that if Salomon were wounded or killed, all the covenants, including the Immortal City and the Martian Foundry, would crumble instantly, just like the division of territory after the death of a feudal monarch. This meant that all her efforts would be in vain.

Stephanie felt a chill run down her spine at the thought that Salomon might do the same thing again.

"Honey, I need your help. It's about the Pasadena Energy Laboratory..."

"I knew you wouldn't invite me to see the mission logs for no reason!" Stephanie clenched her fist angrily and punched Salomon's thigh a few times. "Fine, but I won't take it too seriously. I'll just call and ask." She sighed. "You said I'm off today."
